Official Birthday/Anniversary Cake thread

Chef Mickey's will make a cake for you, *IF* you can reach the right person/people. I called multiple times and nobody returned my call. Eventually I just called the resort and the CM who answered helped me get to someone. They were able to do chocolate or white cake, with chocolate or vanilla buttercream frosting. They could put an edible image on top, write Happy Birthday, or they also can get some of the white chocolate stand-ups that I've seen on some of the GF cakes on this thread. That wasn't offered to me, but when I cancelled my Chef M's cake because I was able to order from the GF I mentioned that as one of the reasons for getting a cake elsewhere (the white chocolate 3D character stand-ups). THEN the CM told me they could have gotten it for me. They don't make them, but they can get them.

I still wanted a GF cake anyway, because I wanted strawberries and custard filling and Chef M's could not do that.

Just to clarify - for my son's 10th birthday we'll be going to Chef Mickeys on Nov 5th.

I can either:
a) Have a 6" Chef Mickey's (frozen) cake, which I request at check-in. It will say 'Happy Birthday' but would not be personalised even if I order in advance? Is that correct? Will they bring it to the table?

You can pre-order a 6-inch 'customized' cake at Chef Mickey's-- you can pick the cake, filling & icing flavors as well as a character decoration that is pre-printed with "Happy Birthday". I was told by the person who took my order 2 weeks ago that they no longer write personal messages on the cakes... Our cake was kept in the kitchen until we were done with our meal and then our server brought it out and lit some candles on it. Donald happened to be at our table when the server brought the cake for my mom but I think this was just coincidental and not necessarily a part of the cake presentation. The cost is $16 plus tax & gratuity. It wasn't the world's best tasting cake ever but it was decent... I liked the fact that I didn't have to worry about getting a cake from somewhere else and schelpping it around on a bus/monorail/etc. to get to CM's... but that's just me... :)

Just want to say to please follow up on your orders. I followed all the right insturctions and ordered a cake for my son at Kona Cafe at the Poly. The lady I spoke to took all my information and my credit card number.

We get to Kona and they don't have it. I ordered about a month in advance. At this point there was nothing they could do. They offered free dessert but we were on the dining plan so that didn't matter. It spoiled the surprise I had for my DS. The lady handled it all wrong too, she blurted it out in from of DS that they had nothing about the cake I ordered. If she had quietly pulled DH or I to the side we could have made up for it and DS wouldn't have known.

So I would def. say call a few days in advance and make sure they have your cake instructions!

jcemom and abbiesmomma, thanks so much for the info. Much appreciated! :thumbsup2 I'm gonna wait til I get to WDW to put in my order as we'll be there 10 days before his birthday. Can't be doin' with these international call rates to answering machines! Thanks again!

JadenLayne, that's such a shame that they messed up the order. How disappointing. Thanks for the heads-up about following up on the order.

Just wanted to add, I was asked what size cake I wanted at CM's, not just the 6 inch cake. I chose 8 inch and I think it was 25.00 US.

JadenLayne, thanks for the advice. I'm sorry to hear they lost your cake order, how disappointing! I will definitely call and confirm mine!

We will be staying at AKL in December. I would really like to get a cake delivered to my room. Does anyone know if the cakes at AKL are as good as the cakes from GF or Boardwalk bakery...do they use the same recipe's? Is it possible to get GF or Boardwalk bakery to deliver my cake to AKL?
Thanks

GF and BW bakeries do not deliver but i read somewhere that they charge 75.00 to deliver but that is unsubstaniated. You might be able to pick it up one day and run it back to your hotel. call private dining at AKL and talk to them about what they offer. I know the concierge at AKL sent me a spread sheet with the offerings of AKL but I can't find it.

I was told by two different CMs at the GF bakery that they would deliver my cake for 75.00.

We had the same thing happen at Chef Mickey's on DD's 6th birthday. Luckily she didn't know there was supposed to be a cake and was thrilled with the cupcake they brought her. The characters made up for it with some extra attention so it all worked out in the end. This year we will have her 10th b-day celebration at O'Hana and I will definately be calling to confirm the cake order when we arrive.

We hare having DD's b-day dinner at O'Hana. Does anyone know if O'Hana just has one style of cake or can I get a Tinkerbell cake there?

There is so much great information in this thread..isn't there a way to sticky it so that people don't have to go hunting for it when they are looking for something and the thread has dropped to page 5 or 6?

Just a suggestion. :goodvibes

They decided that instead of a bunch of sticky's they'd put all the important threads into ONE sticky thread and its called: Links to WDW Dining FAQs and Information. You can find this thread in there! :thumbsup2

My bad - thank you very much for clearing that up!

I've searched the boards and this thread and didn't find anything at all in my searches.

Has anyone with food allergies had any luck ordering a b-day cake? What about an ice cream cake at a restaurant?

Just curious, we will be at WDW for my DS' 10th b-day and he loves ice cream cake. I'm allergic to lots of things (eggs included) and sometime those work out the best for our family.

We're staying at BCV and will be on the dining plan if that helps.

My daughter's cake from her birthday at 1900 Park Fare:

(everything was edible!)

I have not read through the whole post for Artist's Pointe but I do not see it listed at the beginning of the thread. Can you have a birthday cake ordered from there? Anyone ever have one? Thanks in advance.

I spoke to Courtney today...with Private Dining at the GF. I ordered what I wanted. When I asked if I should call them back several days before the day I want it, she said, sure, but it would be all set. But if it made me feel better to please feel free to give them a call back 2-3 days beforehand.
After reading some of these threads, I think I will...just to be on the safe side.

I would definately call to confirm. We just returned and I had ordered a cake for dd at 1900 park fare. We check in and they want to give me one of the generic 6" cakes. I told them I had ordered a custom 8" cake with the Cinderella cake top on it. Well, they only had record of one cake and it wasn't mine. I was about to die, because this was the one special thing I planned for dd. They did eventually find it, but I was so afraid I would be without. So, definately call to confirm they have your cake order.

I had a cake delivered to Boma from the GF. I called Boma about 2 weeks before I left. They did not have the type of cake I was wanting, so the lady I spoke with called GF while I was on the phone & ordered it for me. I was never told there was going to be a delivery charge. The only price she told me was the $25. I asked if I could pay while on the phone, but was told to pay for it the night I received it.

When I arrived for our seatings they knew I had ordered a cake & it had been delivered. After dinner I had our waitress bring out the cake. She took my cc info & said all would be taken care of. This was in the 6th & I still have not seen the charge yet, I hope I don't get a surprise with a $75 delivery charge

Anyway here is a picture of the cake. I ordered this for a Dis friend that was celebrating her birthday. This is a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting & it was the best carrot cake I have ever eaten. The frosting was the best! The DDA stands for "Disney Design Addicts".

I don't think they'll surprise you with a delivery charge. I'll bet someone at AKL picked up the cake for you. The CM at GF told me if I could get someone at Chef M's to pick up my cake it would be fine, no inconvenience to me and no delivery charge. I decided to pick it up myself because I was afraid CM's would agree to do it and then forget.
