From What I understand - the mini castle cakes are pre-made by the bakery in bulk daily (not sara lee)

I would have gotten one, but I REALLY wanted a custom flavor. No matter how much I begged, they wouldn't do it. :)

The mini-wedding cakes with the white chocolate Castle on top are made by the GF bakery in bulk.

They come in 3 flavors and the flavors cannot be personaized. The flavors are:

- chocolate cake with dark chocolate mousse
- yellow cake with white chocolate mousse
- cheesecake

They are meant to feed one person but can be shared by 2 after a big meal.

They are $25 and can be ordered at the GF for a meal at the GF or as a guest of the GF, to be delivered to your room.

Thank you for the quick responses, I feel much better. We have a birthday and he loves, loves cheesecake, but as my son I didn't think he would like Sara Lee. I feel much better now. Whoooo,

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY-Ü Did you order this cake from the GF bakery? It will be just my husband and myself--is it enough for the two of us with (hopefully) not much left over?
May I ask what the cost was? Thanks

Actually I think they put me in touch with with the cake hotline for the GF. As for will it be enough, well that may be determined by where and how you are dining. If you are on the DDP dessert of course is included. SO the minicastle cake would be perfect. If you are eating at 1900 Park Faire, which we did, it would be perfect as well, as they have some wonderful mini desserts you should try. And it is a buffet, so you may fill up with all their scrumptious goodies, so again, it would be just enough. It is about 3 inches in diameter, just enough for 2 to share and it was $25.

Hope this helps,
Winnie

First off, Happy Anniversary!!!!!!!!

Second, was the frosting on your cake Buttercreme?
I also would love to know how you ordered and price.
Can't wait to see pics :)

Yes, it was a cheesecake covered in buttercreme icing. This is so good and melts in your mouth, as does the cheesecake. I ordered from GF Cake hotline, $25.

Blessings,
WInnie

Man after reading all the posts of you all having problems, Im soooooooo happy I was able to talk to a very nice lady from in-room dining at AKL yesterday to order my cake. I think that if I had gotten someone rude, that would have just ruined it for me :sad2: and I would have just gaven up and saved the money and just spent the money on something else. Maybe Linda and the chefs at the GF are getting sick of all the cake orders. I mean people are ordering cakes just to order one. People are ordering cakes to celebrate a b-day or anniversary when its really not their bday or anniversary. I think a lot of people are taking the whole cake ordering for granted and pretty soon Disney just might stop doing cake orders altogether. Why else do you think they switched to Sara Lee cakes. They are getting bombarded with cake orders.

I think the main thing you need to realize is that, yes, maybe it is not their actual birthday or anniversary. But perhaps they have waited to celebrate it at Disney. Not a thing wrong with that. And I do not believe they are sick of making custom cakes, especially management who is counting the money they are making...Ka ching!!! Big time.

I do special occasion cakes, including weddings. And they are NOT that expensive to make. For example, (no lie) the $25 we paid for that minicastle cake, I could take that mony and make a wedding cake for 150 people!! It is done with a name brand cake mix, and home made buttercreme icing. Flowers and all and delivery to reception and set up. So no, Disney is not hurting financially with what they make on their custom cake. And with the profit they make, they'd be crazy to stop. LOL!

And no, I am not saying their not worth it. Not at all. They are works of art many times and very yummy. But yes, they are pricey! I have had 3 custom 6 inch, 1 custom 8 inch and now a mini castle cheesecake. I have never been dissappointed.

Blessings,
Winnie

I am not concerned about the cost of the cake, it is a very special occasion. It is more about the level of customer service I received. I just felt like she was trying to get me off the phone and trying to get me to order the pre-made cakes at the podium when I check in. I read that they are now now made by Sara Lee!
At any rate, I did order the "Mickey's Delight" as you call it, done in silver. It is our 15th anniversary, not our 25th, but I just love how the silver looked. I ordered the marble cake with butter creme frosting. Hopefully the cake will taste so delicious that I will forget all about this!

Just wanted you to know, that I totally understand you wanting something extra special Go for it!!

But I also want you and everyone to know, that the cakes by Sara Lee are quite good and very moist. I ordered one at Prime time for a birthday and it was quite good. If you've had one from the grocery, that's pretty much it. Not so bad. And good for a last minute surprise I think.

Blessings,
Winnie

Which flavors did you pick? She rattled them off so fast to me, I just picked marble with buttercreme filling.

I highly recommend, white cake with white chocolate mousse and fresh raspberries in between. Soooooo god!!

blessings,
Winnie

Has anyone ordered a special cake from Yachtsman Steakhouse? We'd be doing it for 6. It's for my in-laws anniversary and we would like to do one with the castle on it and covered in fondant. :)

EpcotMatt - I just ordered a cake to be delivered to the Yachtsmen's this coming Sunday. It may take me a week or so after that to let you know how it goes as this will (hopefully) occur at the beginning of our trip and then we are spending a few days at the beach. I am not doing a castle cake, however.

I'll be sure to come back to the thread to let you know how it goes. We will be a party of 5 by the way - similar to your party size.

On a side note, I have ordered a fondant cake (with a Mickey topper) before for a birthday (at Narcooosee's) and it was DEVINE! Good choice for the anniversary.

Coral Reef offers the diver who can carry a sign with a personalized message during your meal, if they are available. You have to call the Coral Reef restaurant directly and have your ressie number with you. If you can get ahold of Debbi, she has a wonderful reputation on these boards but we are no longer allowed to give out her direct number. You will probably have to leave a message. Tell them your name, the date and time of your ressie, the ressie number, your special occasion, and I left my email address. They emailed me back in a few days. I think that email is their prefered communication. They do personalize menus also, you just tell them the above info and email them the photos you want on the menu. If you have more questions, there is an entire thread for the Coral Reef Diver, if you search for it, it'll pop up. Hope this helps! :)

(I think the "U" is a smiley face)

I called and left my e-mail with Debbie. Thanks for your help. Now to decide on a cake--I think I'm going nuts trying to figure this whole thing out.

If you let Debbie know you'd like a custom (be specific about custom!!) cake during your ressie, she'll have someone contact you-at least she did for me. It worked out much easier for me that way as they already had all of my info. The girl sent me an email to say she'd gotten my info from Debbi. I replied with what I'd like and she called to confirm everything and take a credit card to place the order (nothing charge-just for ordering).

Good luck!!

You have been so kind to me on the DISign board that I wanted to Thank you here as well. I really want something special, and I don't want someone telling me to order a cake I don't want either. I don't get that part at all--you'd think they'd be more than happy to make the custom cakes. Oh well.
I'm taking your advice to call Linda tomorrow and hopefully she'll be willing to help me-Ü Thanks.

Ds will have his 7th birthday when we are at WDW in Sept. We are staying at the AS Sports. Can I get a cake delivered to our room? We have ADR at Crystal Palace but would rather have a cake in our room. Also ds wants a Star Wars cake. Has anyone had one?

it is so interesting that we have had such diff reports about the cake person. I wonder if there is more than one :confused3

I am torn about the cake thing. I keep going back and forth. We are celebrating our 25th anniversary in Sept (my anniversary is in August, but there is no way in hades I am going to Florida in August, Sept is hot enough!)

We will be having our special dinner at Yachtsman and not sure if I want a cake or not. There are just the two of us, and that is a lot of cake! Plus, there are yummy looking desserts at the YS. But, it is our 25th, and it would be nice to have a special cake. But I would want a fancy schmancy one:cutie:

So I keep going back and forth. I still have a few weeks to decide. I had the white cake with white chocolate mousse and fresh respberries at a friends wedding. It is one of the best cakes I have ever had!

So I keep debating. Feel free to chime in :)

Jody you're so funny! Our dates and feelings are so similar......dropping 70 on that cake for just the two of us knowing how awesome desserts are all over WDW is really nagging at me....I might have to cancel....

I say go for it!! 25 years is something to celebrate!!
And the white cake with white choc mousse and fresh raspberries is excellent. I've had 2 customs done this way for 2 anniversaries. We just celebrated 24 years at WDW yesterday!

Blessings,
Winnie

I say go for it! If you're really worried about waste, do like we did and eat the leftovers for breakfast for the rest of your trip! :rotfl:
