What about having a cake delivered to your room?
it is so interesting that we have had such diff reports about the cake person. I wonder if there is more than one :confused3

I am torn about the cake thing. I keep going back and forth. We are celebrating our 25th anniversary in Sept (my anniversary is in August, but there is no way in hades I am going to Florida in August, Sept is hot enough!)

We will be having our special dinner at Yachtsman and not sure if I want a cake or not. There are just the two of us, and that is a lot of cake! Plus, there are yummy looking desserts at the YS. But, it is our 25th, and it would be nice to have a special cake. But I would want a fancy schmancy one:cutie:

So I keep going back and forth. I still have a few weeks to decide. I had the white cake with white chocolate mousse and fresh respberries at a friends wedding. It is one of the best cakes I have ever had!

So I keep debating. Feel free to chime in :)

Which flavors did you pick? She rattled them off so fast to me, I just picked marble with buttercreme filling.

Steamboat, I had a similar experience with Linda last fall, so I know what you're going through today! She really seemed annoyed that I was asking for a custom cake, even though it wasn't a complicated one. Don't you just hate hearing everyone else rave about how wonderful she is? :confused3

Happy anniversary . . . and good luck with your cake!

If anyone gets the most recent offerings, PM me and I can update the first post with current info

Thanks

We will be celebrating our 45th Anniversary during our trip in September. We have ressies at 1900 Park Fare on the 25th and Coral Reef on the 26th. I would like to order a special cake for one of those days, but I'm not sure which one would be the best. I have also read that you can have a special menu prepared at Coral Reef as well as a diver with a sign. Any help will be appreciated.

I had cakes at both places to celebrate our anniversary and I must say that the cheesecake was probably my favorite. If you like cheesecake, order the mini castle cake at 1900 PF.

I sent you a PM Pumbaa..I called in-room dining at AKL yesterday and gave you the info they told me. I couldnt remember all the info though..sorry..

i have some cake questions, if someone could please please please help me?
1. how easy is it to order a cake and get exactly what i want, i dont just want a cake that has a edible image on it?
2. do i have to eat at a specific place to get something special? i have adrs at Scifi, chef mickeys, hoop dee doo and hollywood and vine. i will also be eating at ESPN and planet hollywood. where would the best place to have a cake be?
3. will they bring the cake to any restaurant?
4. i read so many times about the bakery at the boardwalk, is this a place i can go and just pick out a cake? would it be easier on the night we eat at ESPN to just get a cake there?

thanks to anyone who answers me, i have less than 2 weeks before i have to order this cake and its a very special birthday for a very special little boy. i have to get this right:)

1. how easy is it to order a cake and get exactly what i want, i dont just want a cake that has a edible image on it? It is not very easy at all, only a few places do custom cakes, the rest only offer the pre-made ones and edible images. You would have to call each place and ask about their offerings.

2. do i have to eat at a specific place to get something special? i have adrs at Scifi, chef mickeys, hoop dee doo and hollywood and vine. i will also be eating at ESPN and planet hollywood. where would the best place to have a cake be? To my knowledge none of these locations do custom cakes, Chef Mickey has a mickey mouse head shaped cake that is cute!

3. will they bring the cake to any restaurant? The restaurant you order from will have the cake when you get there. BUT you can not order a custom from GF bakery to be delivered to anywhere outside the GF. And GF bakery does not allow for walk-in pick-ups

4. i read so many times about the bakery at the boardwalk, is this a place i can go and just pick out a cake? would it be easier on the night we eat at ESPN to just get a cake there? Your best bet is to do just that. Call them ahead (like tomorrow) and talk to them about what you want. If they can make it, you can pick it up there. Best idea!!!

thanks to anyone who answers me, i have less than 2 weeks (Call tomorrow! real custom cakes must be ordered more than 48 hrs in advance, people in the previous cake thread called at 5 days and were told they were calling too late ) before i have to order this cake and its a very special birthday for a very special little boy. i have to get this right:)
Good Luck, and take lots of pictures! :)

i have another question?

i didnt really wnat to do his bday celebration at ESPN, i dint even really want to eat there, but my fil insists.
does it make a difference where i do it? if we do it at chef mickeys, is it anything special? or does a cm just bring it over and plop it on the table? it does seem like that would be a great place ot do it. so im torn:confused3

Chef Mickey b-day stories vary. From "plopped it on the table" to "Mickey came to the table when they brought the cake and he was the "conductor" for the happy b-say singing."

I do think Chef Mickey would be a great place to celebrate! It is such a festive place! And the Mickey Head cake is adorable.
But if you want something more custom I would call and ask if they can do more...maybe they can. Just havn't seen a great true custom from there yet.

thanks again! youve been a huge help! now i have to decide which is more important, the cake itself or the "possible" celebration.

After so many positive experiences posted, I was beginning to think it was me! I decided to call her back yesterday afternoon, and was able to change the flavor of the cake and the filling. I feel much better now.
Thanks for your post.

Out of the places you've chosen, I think celebating a b-day at Chef Mickey's with the Mickey head cake would probably be the most memorable. The place is so festive and the cake is adorable. I ordered a Minnie head cake for my DD because I figured that would be something special that we couldn't get where we live - she loved it. Good luck on deciding!

You have been so kind to me on the DISign board that I wanted to Thank you here as well. I really want something special, and I don't want someone telling me to order a cake I don't want either. I don't get that part at all--you'd think they'd be more than happy to make the custom cakes. Oh well.
I'm taking your advice to call Linda tomorrow and hopefully she'll be willing to help me-Ü Thanks.

You're so very welcome. Yes I would suggest getting on the phone and making the order-at least to see what your options are.

Ds will have his 7th birthday when we are at WDW in Sept. We are staying at the AS Sports. Can I get a cake delivered to our room? We have ADR at Crystal Palace but would rather have a cake in our room. Also ds wants a Star Wars cake. Has anyone had one?

I'm interested in this too. I previously called All Star Sports and was told they couldn't arrange anything until 7 days prior when the resort actually got the ressie.

Wear the birthday button the entire time! Note the celebration on every ADR you have is my advice!! Let the pixie dust fall where it may after that. If you'd like the "custom" cake, sounds like you've got than angle.

No, it definitely isn't you. If you read through all the posts you'll find others who have felt blown off by her. She's only human, though, and undoubtedly has bad days, but it still isn't pleasant being on the receiving end when she's in a bad mood. I just hope I get a different CM next time.

Let us know how your cake turns out -- please post pictures! :goodvibes

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1859670&page=16 - Post #228 shows a SW cake. Post #230 shows a Star Wars Lego cake and I know that there is another SW cake somewhere in this thread. :yoda:

I've order a custom BD cake for DH's BD. We're going to be at the CA Grill for his BD night, watching the fireworks too. Woohoo. Can hardly wait for that.

Anyhow, I had originally called and ordered a week or so ago. The person I spoke with didn't really take any kind of details, like my name, phone #, credit card, resort info, anything. I tried giving it to her but she wouldn't take it. Just DH's name and what I wanted written on the cake.

I called dining today and was able to get a later dining time (9:20, which is what I wanted originally). I called up the cake hotline, went through all the prompts and got to private dining at the Contemp and explained that I had ordered a custom cake and our dining time had changed. The response I got was ok, I'll make a note of it. I asked, don't you need my name/time/reservation number/credit card/anything? She said, ya ok, what's your last name? I gave it to her but...

Am I worrying over nothing? Do all you experts here think I'm set? I really don't want to not have this for my DH. He deserves a nice cake....

Thanks all.

Happy Birthday!! :)

When I spoke with Tracy (I think) about DS4's custom birthday cake, I didn't have to give any information either. She got my contact info from Debbi at the Coral Reef and had my reservation all pulled up that way before she even got me on the phone.

If it makes you feel better, I would call back to confirm. Maybe just give them your name and ask what's ordered (maybe take the angle like someone else ordered it for and you're double checking it???). I would also call the restraunt and let them know you've ordered a custom cake so they can note your ADR and keep an eye out for it. Hopefully that will cover all of your bases. If possible, I also plan on calling the day of our ressies at Coral Reef to confirm the diver and menus as well as the custom cake just to make sure and have one less thing to worry about. Then, I'll just send my family off to wash their hands or something while I check in to ensure that I can check in and confirm my cake order is all set without spoiling the surprise.
