When you ordered it, did they try to get you to order 2 of them?
She was trying to get me to order two of them.
I didn't want 2!
That is why I just went with the other cake.
This is so stressful! And this is supposed to be a celebration!
Sorry, I didn't order it, my Mother did as a surprise for me. My best friend (of more than 25 years) and I went down to celebrate our 40th birthdays on my birthday. We were dining at 1900 Park Faire on my actual birthday and my Mom arranged for the castle cake. Unfortunately, I never received it! This was a thursday. I talked to my Mom on Saturday and when she inquired about the cake, she was quite upset to know that I never received it! She contacted the manager at the GF bakery the next morning and they were trying to be "stealth" and have it delivered to my dining location at DHS that day-only I had two places scheduled (my friend couldn't decide!) We wound up cancelling both that morning and going to Prime Time for lunch. :rotfl: I received a phone call during lunch from "Disney Dining" which was actually the manager of the GF bakery trying to figure out where i was and what I was doing! They wound up delivering the cake to Pop Century along with a card and balloons. It was in our room when we returned that night. They apologized profusely to my Mother and refunded all of her money.

Here is the cake:

When I made my orders yesterday, both GF and Boma asked for my name and time for my ADR. They found my info (in the computer I guess) asked for my CC# and told me I should call a day or two to make sure evrything was all set. Others took my name and ADR and said the order was in the computer but I'll call to check just to be sure. I can't say that I had any problems. Good day I guess.:thumbsup2

Happy Birthday!! :)

When I spoke with Tracy (I think) about DS4's custom birthday cake, I didn't have to give any information either. She got my contact info from Debbi at the Coral Reef and had my reservation all pulled up that way before she even got me on the phone.

If it makes you feel better, I would call back to confirm. Maybe just give them your name and ask what's ordered (maybe take the angle like someone else ordered it for and you're double checking it???). I would also call the restraunt and let them know you've ordered a custom cake so they can note your ADR and keep an eye out for it. Hopefully that will cover all of your bases. If possible, I also plan on calling the day of our ressies at Coral Reef to confirm the diver and menus as well as the custom cake just to make sure and have one less thing to worry about. Then, I'll just send my family off to wash their hands or something while I check in to ensure that I can check in and confirm my cake order is all set without spoiling the surprise.

Thank you! I feel better now. I'm not usually such a worry wort....

I've order a custom BD cake for DH's BD. We're going to be at the CA Grill for his BD night, watching the fireworks too. Woohoo. Can hardly wait for that.

Anyhow, I had originally called and ordered a week or so ago. The person I spoke with didn't really take any kind of details, like my name, phone #, credit card, resort info, anything. I tried giving it to her but she wouldn't take it. Just DH's name and what I wanted written on the cake.

I called dining today and was able to get a later dining time (9:20, which is what I wanted originally). I called up the cake hotline, went through all the prompts and got to private dining at the Contemp and explained that I had ordered a custom cake and our dining time had changed. The response I got was ok, I'll make a note of it. I asked, don't you need my name/time/reservation number/credit card/anything? She said, ya ok, what's your last name? I gave it to her but...

Am I worrying over nothing? Do all you experts here think I'm set? I really don't want to not have this for my DH. He deserves a nice cake....

Thanks all.

I'm sorry, I can't answer your question, but please let us know what happens - I plan on ordering a cake at CG in late August.

What choices were you given, and what did you order?

Ya know this is my biggest gipe about Disney and their cakes:headache: ...don't get me wrong I have ordered a couple and I was pleased with the outcome BUTTTTTTT....you are shelling out sometimes some major bucks on a cake...some flour, eggs, sugar, etc, and sometimes some very wonderful creativity sometimes not so much... it would be so much less stressful if we as the consumer knew what we were getting...flame me if you want but in this area it just doesn't seem like the "disney way" if you know what I mean! Ok rant over...:confused3
Thanks for listening!!:worship:

No flames here. I would really like to order a cake for my parents as a thank you when we go down for our wedding, but I am hesitant because of the lack of consistancy that I have seen here. I have seen some truly fabulous cakes that were well worth the money paid. I have seen some other cakes where I thought "I can't believe they charged $$$ for THAT". It would be nice to have some idea of the final product before hand (and to know the intended recipient would GET the final product :rolleyes1 ). I also want to do a groom's cake for DF at our welcome dinner, but am struggling with the same issues regarding that cake as well. I am willing to pay the cost for a quality product, but not so much for a cake that looks as though it came from any local grocery store.

Thanks all! I'll let you know the outcome of the continuing saga....

Praise2Him - when I called I had a hard time convincing the person at the Contemp that I wanted a custom cake! I was told, oh no, we don't do that. I insisted that I saw pictures of cakes (literally hundreds from DIS) that people had custom ordered. She put me on hold to go talk to the chef, came back and said that yes, they could do that. I ordered a chocolate/chocolate cake with a sorcerer's apprentice mickey on it. Hopefully it will look like the one from this post! I love this cake!

gatrbait - love that name BTW! I agree. There seems to be so much inconsistency here while ordering cakes! You call the cake hotline, but then you are prompted to hit buttons until you get to where you want the cake at, in my case Cali Grill at the Contemp. I would much rather have a general cake hotline number that you can talk to a single place, just like the dining reservations number. Call the cake hotline, order your cake, let them know where/when and reservation number. I think that would so much take all this confusion out of the mix.

Thanks for listening to my gripes....back to your regularly scheduled programming...

Do Over Dreams...I'm diggin your name to...actually it one of my fav sayings if I screw up which is pretty regular..."wait wait do over do over!!!!"
I hope it all works out for you but in the end remember where you are... in Disney and what can be better than that??? Enjoy your trip!!

We are eating at Narcoossee's in a few weeks and I want to get myself something special. If I am correct the choices are the slipper, castle cake and chocolate dipped strawberries. Any thoughts on what is best? If I get the castle cake can I have any flavor cake? If so what are the choices? And what does the slipper taste like? I assume the slipper itself is white chocolate but what about the rest of it. And I can't seem to find a picture of the strawberries. Sorry for so many questions and thanks for your help.

I tried to sort through all the threads.. but I have a 1 year old at the keyboard, so it's tough! But.. I was wondering if I can have one of the mini wedding cakes delivered to the Cali Grill for our anniversary? (ADR on 9/2/08)

I want something a little more special than a 6" round that someone on the cake hotline talked me into!

Is this do-able? I tried to call the GF bakery but there was no answer!

No Kim. The only places that can provide you with that kind of cake are GF restaurants (Vic and Alberts, Narcoossees, 1900, etc.). I can tell you we did our 15th and will be doing our 25th at CG and they presented a gorgeous dessert. Hoping we get lucky again!

Anyone tried the Sara Lee cakes yet?

We had a 6" cake at WC for DS birthday. It wasn't bad :rolleyes1 . When I originally requested the cake, they told me there would be a charge for it and then I read here that the price went up. Well, they didn't charge us for it :confused3. We double checked and were told there was no charge.

Wow. That stinks. We were there on our Honeymoon (just got married at the Wedding Pavilion 2 days earlier) and we just got the "regular" desserts.

I want to do *something* special... not just some plain ol crappy 6" cake. I've seen some awesome cakes, and it's like, I can't have any of them!

I wish the GF restaurants appealed to me :(

Can I get something like either of these at All Star Sports, Jiko, Chef Mickey's, Ohana, Princess Breakfast at Asherkus, Bier Garten, or Crystal Palace?

Has anyone had anything special done at Cali. Grill? We are celebrating our 13th anniversary, and I want something more special then the 6" cake.

Me too! A 6" cake that a lot of people have reported as being frozen on arrival? No thanks!

The Castle cake is only served at GF dining locations and cannot be delivered anywhere else  but the Mini Wedding Cake is available at the Boardwalk Bakery and might be able to be delivered to one of those locations...however, I do not think it will be possible at many (if any) of the dining locations you mentioned...the best thing to do is call or email the boardwalk bakery and speak with Sandra...I have been working with her for a couple of cakes I am ordering and she is great!

OH I really like that first cake.(2 tiers) Does anyone know how much that runs?

Before the price increase, I was quoted $25 (not sure what the price is with the recent increase)...it is only a small cake that serves 1-2 people....I was given this info through the Boardwalk Bakery.

I know it isn't a cake but I am looking for the chocolate thing they delivered to your room at the AKL with the animals and decorations. Anyone know where to fine it?:confused3
