OK, so I had just about the same thing happen with her, except I didn't ask for the anniversary cake. I wanted the stamped Donalds with a D Duck white chocolate topper, and it took me a couple of phone calls. What eventually worked was stumping the cake hotline people. She offered me a silkscreen Donald. Uhm, no. I told that woman I had something specific in mind, and she transferred me to GF bakery.
From there, she tried the whole "only order at the podium" thing. I was super polite and told her that I understood that that was what is normally done, but I was hoping to get a "custom" cake for DH birthday. She asked what specifically I wanted, and I told her. She said no. She told me I could get an 8" with ganache. I told her what I was HOPING for was fondant with stamped Donalds and a white chocolate Donald topper. She said, "that's only for weddings". I asked her if it was possible to get the stamped Donalds NOT on the anniversary cake, but rather on a 10" custom cake, she said "no". She did offer me fondant, though, instead of ganache. I told her that I didn't need fondant if I couldn't have the stamped Donalds. She said, "I'll check and see if they'll do it for you, but I have to warn you that this cake will be well over $100". I told her that was fine, that I didn't care what it cost because I wanted something special for my husband. She put me on hold.
For NINE minutes.
Then she came back, probably after a bathroom break and filing her fingernails, and said "they'd" do it, but it would be $95. Went over the whole thing, then had the gall to ask if I wanted to spend that much. I said yes.
I realized about an hour later that she didn't ask what I wanted for an inscription, but I decided to wait 48 hours to call to see if it was actually in the system. It actually was, I was surprised. Anyhow, so we'll see if I get it Saturday night, but at least it was ordered proprely when I called to add the inscription.
Here is my experience getting a cake for my DD's 11th Bday. We just got back from WDW. I didn't want to take a chance ordering the cake over the phone. I read some reports about people not getting exacytly what they wanted and I really wanted something specific. We were staying at the BCV so on Sunday evening I walked over to the BW bakery. I asked to speak to the baker to order a cake. I told her I wanted a mini wedding cake for my DD's birthday. She knew exactly what I meant. She asked what type of cake I wanted and gave me a choice of fillings. She asked what colors and style I wanted. She drew a picture of it on the order sheet so I knew what I was getting. Since DD's favorite color is green and she loves Mickey we went with that theme. She said she needed 48 hours and I needed it by Wednesday so it was not a problem. It was $25 plus tax and I paid then and she wrote paid on the order form and gave me a receipt. I was able to have it ready anytime so I asked for it to be ready at 10am. On Wednesday morning I picked it up and I couldn't have been happier!! When I picked it up they were nice enough to give me a candle and box it up carefully. The baker also wrote Happy Birthday and my DD's name in chocolate too!
Here is the cake:

What is everyone's opinon of the quality of the Mickey Mouse Head cake? I am thinking of ordering that instead of a 8" custom cake, but I am not sure.

Where did youget your mickey cake from?? I am thinking about ordering it for Cali Grille if they will do it...
Good luck!! I'm sure your cake will be beautiful, there hasn't been any cakes i've seen from the GF Bakery that weren't! I'm about at my wits end with the hoops one has to jump through to make a pretty simple request. I wonder if the bakery chef tells her only to take orders from persistent people, or if she just randomly weeds people out on her own. I'm going to bide my time until I'm in the 30 day window, and then try again....I'm too frustrated now!
I am trying to sift through these posts, so as not to ask a question that has been answered, but it is too much to go thru...
Am I able to order this cake and have it delivered to Le Cellier for my bday dinner or to Poly?
Does Cellier have their own cakes instead? Does Poly?
If not, how late is the bakery open. Maybe we could pick it up on our way back to the room.
TIA!

The Mickey head cake I had was really good. It lasted for the whole week for us. It never dried out either. We got chocolate and it was rich and moist! YUM! I would not hesitate to get this cake again!
I don't remember if you had a reason you have to get a cake at GF or not. If not, I'd consider one of the Yacht & Beach Club restaurants. I've been following this thread, since the original cake thread was started. IMHO, the prettiest cakes are coming from the Y&BC bakery at this time. It used to be GF bakery. Y&BC seem to be more willing to work with you, & enjoy what they're doing. Occasionally, we still see a really pretty cake from other locations (i.e. GF), but it's not consistent. It's kind of luck of the draw. Every cake I've seen from Y&BC's bakery has been beautiful. I think people have been ordering them through private dining. If your cake has to come from GF bakery, I wish you luck.
We are going down in a few weeks (who am I kidding...30 days from today!) and I would like to order a mini castle cake for dd for our 1900 Park Fare dinner.
I am planning on calling 2wks out, but which is better to call...the cake hotline or 1900 Park Fare directly?
Thanks!
ATTENTION MODERATOR:
I think we need two seperate threads for cakes - Cake photo and cake chat - it takes way to long to find photos of cakes from the resorts you are looking for - I would be happy to help organize - just PM me for help.
