Official Birthday/Anniversary Cake thread Part II

Here is my experience getting a cake for my DD's 11th Bday. We just got back from WDW. I didn't want to take a chance ordering the cake over the phone. I read some reports about people not getting exacytly what they wanted and I really wanted something specific. We were staying at the BCV so on Sunday evening I walked over to the BW bakery. I asked to speak to the baker to order a cake. I told her I wanted a mini wedding cake for my DD's birthday. She knew exactly what I meant. She asked what type of cake I wanted and gave me a choice of fillings. She asked what colors and style I wanted. She drew a picture of it on the order sheet so I knew what I was getting. Since DD's favorite color is green and she loves Mickey we went with that theme. She said she needed 48 hours and I needed it by Wednesday so it was not a problem. It was $25 plus tax and I paid then and she wrote paid on the order form and gave me a receipt. I was able to have it ready anytime so I asked for it to be ready at 10am. On Wednesday morning I picked it up and I couldn't have been happier!! When I picked it up they were nice enough to give me a candle and box it up carefully. The baker also wrote Happy Birthday and my DD's name in chocolate too!

Thank you for your info. And that cake certainly did look delish! ::yes::

Desnik that cake is amazing can i ask how big it was? How many people do you think it could feed? We are going for my DD's 11th b'day and this is just beautiful
Thanks

Here is a picture of the cake with my DD next to it. You can get a better idea of the actual size. We were able to pop the top layer off and she had that. Then I was able to cut the bottom layer into 4 small even pieces. It was enough for us. The cake itself was one layer of cake, the layer of chocolate mouse, then another layer of cake. So even though it was a small piece, with all the layers it filled us up.

Does anyone know if the Boardwalk Bakery regularly stocks the Mickey head cakes, or would I have to order one in advance?

When I went into the bakery they had a small cake that was the shape of Mickey and had his face on it. I wish I would've taken a picture. It was really cute. About the size of a large brownie. They also had a round, probably 9" cake there and they could write Happy Bday on it. I know there was another cake but nothing spectacular cause for the life of me I can't remember what it looked like, LOL! It was really average. The baker there was really great and was willing to make whatever I wanted. I would just go there 48 hours in advance and order one.

I was trying to find pictures of Disney cakes and came across this (not a Disney cake, though). Do you think there's any way to have something similar to this made? Even without the mouse ear topper (I'd love it, but I'm assuming they may not be able to do that)? I don't really care what restaurant it's at.. our daughter would love it! I know it's pretty simple, I'm just not sure who can do it or where I can order it!

I would post the picture, but it won't let me right now!

That is the Mickey head mini wedding cake. DH and I are renewing our vows at WDW in Nov and we are having those for our younger guests! It is so cute. That was how I got the idea for the one I got for DD's Bday. I don't think the BW bakery had the Mickey topper.(it is made out of chocolate) I am also pretty sure it(mini wedding cakes) can only be ordered from the GF or BW bakery. I paid $25 for it and it looks very similar to the one you posted.

Thank you for letting me know! Hmmm.. do you think you can order over the phone for the GF? Then I could pick it up while my daughter is at the Wonderland Tea Party and surprise her later. :O)

Unfortunately, GF Bakery doesn't allow pickups. There's no store front. You have to be staying at the hotel or dining @ one of their restaurants to order a cake from them. As far as I know, only Boardwalk Bakery allows pickups.

Just got back and had an awesome bday experience for DH. Had ordered the choc. 6" from the hotline (wasn't really sure what I would get because the girl seemed clueless). Got to Cali Grill and asked at the check in and she assured me it was on the reservation. We got to the table and they had Castle and Mickey confetti on the table and as soon as we were done with dinner (which was amazing!!!), our waiter brought out the cake (and coffee) with a lit candle (they'd written "Happy Birthday Andy" on the cake) and we sang Happy Birthday! It was perfectly orchestrated, hubby was really surprised. The cake looked wonderful! Was more than enough for us each to have a slice and there was more than 1/2 left that we took back to our room and munched on thru the week. The taste of the cake was OK, but we were much more interested in presentation, which was MAGICAL!!! I think the price was $21 or $22 that was just added to the bill for dinner! I'll post a pic when we get all of our pics dowloaded.

Thanks very much .. There are 18 of us going so think we may need something bigger hahahahhaha :rotfl2: .. Shame as my DD would have loved it, i may phone and ask them about it being a bit bigger maybe

Thanks again

They can also make wheat-free / dairy-free cakes which are delicious. We had one for my wife's birthday New Year's Eve at Cinderella's Royal Table (was pre-arranged through central baking).

I arranged for a birthday cake that was nut free and talked with a chef at great length on the phone. When we arrived they acted like I was crazy. It was even on the ressie cause they showed me! The chef came out and told me too bad, we can't make a nut free cake. This was supposed to be a surprise, but obviously it wasn't anymore since I was standing at the podium arguing with the chef. Finally another chef came out and told us he could give us the wheat free cake. It totally tasted like cardboard. I was very disappointed with the whole experience. Just a heads up!
