Official Avengers Super Hero Half Marathon Weekend 2014 Thread!

Hi Everyone! I'm in for the half in November. Did Goofy in January and this is my chance at getting a Coast to Coast medal. :)

I keep checking the rundisney site and there still isn't a training plan listed for the Avengers Half. I guess if one isn't posted anytime soon, I can use the Wine and Dine 1/2 training plan and adjust it by a week?

I saw that the 2015 Glass Slipper Challenge plan was posted (planning on signing up for that one as well), so I assumed the Avengers one would be. :confused3

The Avengers Training plan is up, did you miss it somehow?

My name is already on the list of those running the Avengers 1/2, but I wanted to mention this also included my husband as we run these together. Very excited that this race was announced as we had written off the Coast to Coast for this year, and this gave us one last option! Plus its been several years since we have been to DL, so its time to go back (right before WWOC opened was last time).

We are staying at the Best Western Plus too.

When we registered I clicked we qualified for Coast to Coast does anyone know if there is anything else I need to do?

Thanks

Jennifer

That's all you need to do for your C2C. They match your name and birthday at the packet pick up and give you a wristband to wear. At the finish line there's a coast to coast tent, show them your wristband (they mark it or cut it off) and give you your medal. :)

PS: added your Husband to the first post.. OP updated. :)

Regarding Coast to Coast, unless there is a brand new policy, there is nothing else that you have to do, at least that has been my experience for years past and this year, too.

Any of you runners go to a chiropractor? I haven't been in years but am thinking about going. I've been having some pain in my lower left back, above my hip. It travels down the front of my leg when I run. Nothing I can't run through but I'm guessing it might be sciatica. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Absolutely.

Sciatica is usually from the lower part of the "cheek" and can run all the way down to the hell (and even to my pinky toe sometimes), but that doesn't mean you cannot be helped.

I personally prefer light-touch techniques (which doesn't mean JUST light touch, but that they wait until they feel your body can handle a bigger force) like Network Spinal Analysis or BGI. In your area, depending on how north you are in CA, you might easily be able to find people like that.

I had a bad case of sciatica a couple of years ago and went to PT. It was wonderful! They started with a massage and then stretches and exercises to strengthen the core a couple of days a week. It took a couple of months to be gone. I'm not always great about doing the exercises regularly, but when I feel a little achy again, I'm reminded to do my stretches!!

I, personally, would go to a PT rather than a chiropractor.

Good luck!!

My friend and I are in for the half and 5k! We were both CPs at WDW this past Fall and did our first Disney Race at TOT 10Miler! It was a blast!! I've got about 3 half's done right now and another in about 2 weeks, we're SO excited!!

First time to DL though and we are total newbies, will be nice to experience it for the first time though. Going to start the training program once school wraps up and my half in May is over, I'm not very good at keeping up with my training but my legs luckily hold up.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I actually talked to my PT about my sciatica a few months back as it was contributing to a numb foot when running. All she really did was tell me to work on my core to combat it. Which I have been doing and it did seem to get better.

Went to the chiro yesterday and he did an adjustment and showed me another stretch to do at home. He thinks with the stretches and some more adjustments that it shouldn't take more than a few weeks to get me back to normal. So fingers crossed it works!

I'm in for the Half! I have only done one week of the couch to 5k. I ran a marathon about 12 years ago but my activity level in the past ten years is very minimal.

Already starting to work on my costume. I'm going for glitzy. My husband is like...but why does it have to sparkle? I say, why not? Gotta offset all that sweat, right?

I'm not sure where I'll be staying as I'm from California and will be in the area for my sister's wedding. I'll most likely be staying with family for the week, but maybe book a hotel for just the night before the race? It's so early and I don't want to be late! And now that I don't live within twenty minutes of Disneyland, I can justify staying at the hotel.

Hubby and I are signed up for the Half.

I've been running on and off for the last few years but every effort to convince DH that a race or event might be fun but without any luck... until now. Apparently promising Disney was the key :)

Only had to stay up til 4am to register :) Now to work on my costume - seems a fair bit harder to do from Australia sadly.

So very excited though.

I'm signed up for the 5K and Half and I finally had a friend say she wanted to run the half, too. It looks like most of the travel agents are sold out, but has anyone been able to register lately? Are there wait lists somewhere? I know charity groups are an option, but she doesn't live in the US so that might be more difficult than she wants to undertake ...
Any options that I may not know about?

Does anyone know where to find "in training" fb cover photos? It can be official or fanmade. I want to know if anything is already out there before making my own.

If anyone knows of any charities/travel agencies with availability for the 5K, please post up. I really wish i had taken the chance and registered and now I would love to do it!

With the no ability to transfer bibs this is my only route correct?

So I found a shirt I kinda want to wear for the half but the problem is that its just a normal cotton T-shirt. Anyone wear a cotton T for a half before? I was thinking maybe I could just put one of my tech t's under it but then I might get too warm. Ideas? Advice?

I personally won't wear anything cotton on me while running. Been there done that, have the chafing scars! (back when I was in college and knew of nothing BUT cotton)

I don't have issues with cotton. But I don't swear like crazy either so it might make a difference.

I wore a plain cotton t shirt for the Princess Half and the entire shirt got soaked in sweat and changed colors from dark pink to magenta!

All the sweat made the shirt weigh me down a tad but with all that said, I can't stand tech tees!
