****OFFICIAL August, 2012 (PART 2)****

Haha - I just came to post that my DH has officially gone crazy because he has instructed me to pack flashlights AND a huge water bottle.

However, it seems he has lots of company :) Ah well - I have tons of room in our bags....even if I DO think he's nuts - especially about the water bottle. I keep telling him Disney will take care of us - but he has no faith! Be prepared...then do a little extra just to be safe is his motto.

Here's to lots of pixiedust: fur a hurricane-free vacation!

Again I must say........AMEN, SISTER! :thumbsup2

Great idea to whomever suggested flashlights. They will be on my list of items to pick up on my final run to Walmart before we leave.

I read on another thread that this is the best source for accurate weather predictions:

http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClic...site=all&smap=1&searchresult=Orlando, FL, USA

So far, Monday is looking okay, but can't see Tuesday just yet as they don't go beyond 7 days (which is probably best, as anything further out is really only a best-guess scenario).

I am definitely not "flipping out", but my mom always says "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". So we will do our best to be well informed and well prepared, regardless of Mother Nature's intentions.

This is a GREAT blog on how WDW handled things during Hurricane Charlie in 2004. It made me feel a lot better. (I sent it to hubs in hopes of calming him down).

Check it out! So good to know that Disney has lots pof really good plans to take care of us.

I read this one last night too! Everything I have ever seen about Tropical Storms at Disney says they do a wonderful job. Not worried there at all. Also not worried about our flights because we leave Thursday.
And like Gina says.. the predictive models all have this going into Florida early next week.. but they don't post those for a reason.. it's just too soon. Many Many things can happen between then and now. For instance hitting the mountainous areas of some of those islands could slow it right down, or it could change direction and go out to sea.
It's always good to watch and prepare and make sure your insurance is in order but it's still a big guessing game at this point.

Just got notification for our flights tomorrow (I track the prices). It's $714 now!!!! (I paid $280)

CRAZZYYYYYYYY

:crazy2::crazy2: Can you imagine waiting until the last minute to get flights. Thank goodness we don't pay those prices!!

:faint:

So much for last-minute discounts!!!

(That said........back in early July, we booked our Christmas trip flights to Orlando via Airtran, flying home on Jetblue. Our Airtran leg was $170 pp. Within 11 days, the price rocketed $411 pp and has remainded there to this day. $411 per person, ONE WAY?!? O.M.G.!)

Isaac has the potential to be a very strong hurricane and ALL of the models are in agreement that it will hit Florida at some point. This is a storm to watch everyone. They don't offer predictions more than 5 days out because the cone of uncertainty becomes wider and wider. Any slight movement in the storm, or interruptions could cause a different path, and different results.

Right now they are saying East Coast of Florida. By tonight that could be West. (as far as predictions)
It is time to watch it and make a back up plan.

Nobody knows at this point if it will come anywhere near Orlando and even if it did, Orlando is so far inland that it is safe. Disney does an excellent job of making sure everyone is taken care of. But the possibility of your flights being interrupted and bad weather is very real so have a plan in place.

Again, it could make a turn at this point and anything could happen but this is definitely one to watch and you are not overreacting.

Orlando isn't as far inland that it is completely safe. It is just most hurricanes path tend not to turn that way. I lived in LaGrange Georgia when Irene hit the Gulf Coast. LaGrange is 4 hours inland! Went it hit us, it was still a hurricane and not a tropical storm. The upside, is that the folks in Disney are trained to handle any storm related occurrences.

Now on a brighter note, I just printed out our boarding passes from the Southwest website. So, in the morning, we get the kids up, surprise them with the trip, (they still think we are going to the beach), then off to the airport.

This is a short trip for us. We are only staying until Sunday evening, since the kids start school on Monday. Ds will be starting kindergarten and dd will be in the 4th grade. Where does the time go?

I really think Isaac will go west and into the Gulf of Mexico. So, for those going next week, it might be rainy but that is about it.

I wouldn't worry about any strong hurricane for next week yet. The storm hasn't even really formed yet! The models have many different tracks only one of which affects Orlando and its only a lot of rain nothing more! So relax and enjoy your vacation we will be there all next week!

Sorry for the lack of live updates, but the wifi here at cbr does not like me.

I forgot to mention in my last update that during lunch at epcot on Saturday I got a call that my uncle passed away. It is hard to be away from home at a time like this.

I think we have had rain everyday, but nothing that kept us from doing what we want.

The new fle looks like it is going to be great. Can't wait for it to open.

Sunday we went to TL for the first time and we all had a blast. Yesterday we started at DHS and went on everything we wanted except for.star tours. From what I heard they had to stop the fantasmic show 5 minutes into it. We ended the night at MK for wishes. Today we went to ak and they were hardly any waits. Tonight we go back to epcot.

I'm sorry to hear about your uncle. I'm sure it's hard to be away right now :sad1:

SO sorry to hear about your uncle!

And thanks for your report - glad to hear rain hasn't held you back. I hope I don't get rained out of Fantasmic though. I only have 1 chance to catch it on our trip and it would be a bummer as we love it. We have 2 chances each for Illum and Wishes so at some point should be able to watch both shows :)

Now - someone PLEASE explain to me why we need an extra set of ponchos? :confused3 I got the better quality nylon ones that fold into their own stuff sacks. DH said - "because they might not dry overnight". Errrr...why wouldn't they? (particularly since I packed a clothesline along with clothespins!). On top of that, is it really a big deal to put them on wet? They'll just get wet anyhow. :rotfl2: (I should add I'm packing them anyway...DH's peace of mind means a lot to me - means I don't have to listen to him nag and whine!!)

Remember though..this is the man who insisted I pack a 2nd set of crocs for him because "they may not dry overnight". :rotfl: He's got issues!!

All this talk about things not drying reminds me that I plan to toss a newspaper into my suitcase just in case I need to quick dry sneakers. My DD and I are the same size and will share 3 pairs of sneakers. My DS has two pairs of sneakers plus his crocs. As mentioned earlier, DH has TWO sets of crocs. I think we're well equipped :)

And your post just made me super relieved that we have a dryer in our villa!!! :rotfl: Just in case! ;)

Does he not have two hands with which to pack his own "just in case" stuff? ;)

Good tip :thumbsup2....I think I will stop watching the weather too since it is inevitable that Florida and this time of year equals rain :rotfl:. However, after reading Pigletto's post about Isaac, it's kind of putting a sting in the back of my brain. I just have to remember to come prepared because I'd much rather be sloshing around WDW with my ponchos on then being at home :goodvibes.

This is a quote from The Weather Channel report on Isaac....

(MORE: Expert Analysis)

Simply put, it's too early to give any specifics. There are too many factors this far out in time that could change the forecast.*

Yes, I did look. Fact is, last year I made it out of NY, on the last flight out of JFK before it closed due to the hurricane, because I was keeping track of the storm. I called and re-booked my flights one day early and we had a terrific week. So yes, I will check on it once a day.

Moral of the story is I refuse to look every 5 minutes and I refuse to allow those who obsess to ruin the anticipation and excitement I have regarding our upcoming trip. Especially when I'm still not leaving for a week. The storm is still very weak and they have no clue what it will do or where it will go at this point.

Sooooooooo, back to my regularly scheduled programming....
