I'm not looking at any of them. Fact is, in Florida, pretty much every day has rain forcasted in the summer. Last year I nearly made myself sick with worry about a hurricane. It ended up missing Florida completely and hitting my hometown. We enjoyed a wonderful week while everyone here was without power. Soooooooo, I'm resisting the urge to obsess this year. My blood pressure is high enough as it is

Going to post this (not like I'm flipping out or anything ) but after watching this video I hope its the European model that Isaac follows, if not, it looks like we may get nailed with it down there about Monday.

Weather Channel: Hurricane Isaac

Isaac has the potential to be a very strong hurricane and ALL of the models are in agreement that it will hit Florida at some point. This is a storm to watch everyone. They don't offer predictions more than 5 days out because the cone of uncertainty becomes wider and wider. Any slight movement in the storm, or interruptions could cause a different path, and different results.

Right now they are saying East Coast of Florida. By tonight that could be West. (as far as predictions)
It is time to watch it and make a back up plan.

Nobody knows at this point if it will come anywhere near Orlando and even if it did, Orlando is so far inland that it is safe. Disney does an excellent job of making sure everyone is taken care of. But the possibility of your flights being interrupted and bad weather is very real so have a plan in place.

Again, it could make a turn at this point and anything could happen but this is definitely one to watch and you are not overreacting.

Good tip ....I think I will stop watching the weather too since it is inevitable that Florida and this time of year equals rain . However, after reading Pigletto's post about Isaac, it's kind of putting a sting in the back of my brain. I just have to remember to come prepared because I'd much rather be sloshing around WDW with my ponchos on then being at home .

I don't mean to make you or anyone worry. I debated posting at all because I really don't want to bring anyone down. In the end, it's better to be aware and prepared though. Bring ponchos, extra shoes, things to do in your room etc.
Have cash on hand if you need to extend your stay a day or two in case of flight delays.
Make sure to bring phone numbers in case you have to call and ask someone to look in on your house or pets a few extra days.
Watch your flights for any delay or interruption.

Other than that, there isn't much you can do and what will be will be

I just would hate to think of anyone being stuck without extra cash on hand or stuck in their room with nothing to do while a storm passed.

I've been stuck on a Cruise ship sailing outside of a hurricane. MANY people were out of money and not prepared. They missed their flights because we were out at sea 3 extra days. We also ended up in a different port because we couldn't get in to the one that we were supposed to disembark on.

Nothing catastrophic, but certainly a giant pain in the butt. Best to be prepared for any scenario this time of year so you can relax and enjoy your trip

I'm flying out TOMORROW!! This should hit on Monday/Tuesday right in the middle of my vacation. Hope it all works out! DH asked what we would do if it's a bad thunderstorm on our waterpark day. I said we'll pay a little more and add an extra park day or two. Roll with the punches!

It doesn't look like the travel insurance I purchased will cover ANY of the problems I might get as a result of Isaac since it should be long gone by the time I leave.

OK - what is the WORST thing you can bring brand new to WDW?

SHOES!!!!

And guess what I did? I was at Adidas last night and picked up a half dozen pairs of brand new shoes. Yikes, yikes, and TRIPLE yikes.
Still, I guess they're better than shoes that are a bit too small??

We all have a pair of well broken-in sneakers each. Then we are all bringing a pair of NEW sneakers each. Then I also bought a awesome new water sandal for DD and I(which I really don't need as I just bought nice flip flops - but they'll cost JUST $12!!).

I need therapy (headed back to Adidas tonight!). The clerk was finally telling me "no you REALLY DON'T NEED that!" They are just having such a GOOOOOOD sale! Tell me, if brand new bee-yoo-tee-fool Adidas sneakers cost just $22 each and your kids NEED them for school, what would YOU do?!

I wasn't really watching the weather for our week, except for what the weather is going to be in Orlando alone. What you posted did make me aware because we now know that on our arrival day we will have to make sure our ponchos are in our carry-on bags since we will be heading to Epcot that day, I may even buy extra ponchos for everyone just in case our first ones rip and we then don't have to buy them in Disney with their prices . I don't know who you are flying with, but with Southwest as soon as an advisory goes up for your flights on their website they have allowed me to switch to get out ahead of snowstorms. Watching ahead of time had me prepared so we were packed, I explained to work, and we got out of dodge a day early before the storm came.
Just be ready if it starts looking like it will effect your flights to call and change things around. Ideally you try to get there before the storm and avoid all the mess that comes with cancelled flights because there is a backlog of people trying for new flights. That's worst case scenario but it's good to be prepared.
I am debating on extra ponchos too.
I look at it this way.. if I do nothing and don't prepare for it, we'll end up in the middle of it. If I plan and make sure everything is in place it won't come anywhere near Orlando or it will die out before the weekend. Just seems to be the way things work

I have to start looking at our insurance. It's with my DH's school policy so I am not sure on all the particulars. I know with the cruise because we had insurance, we called the travel agent when we got off the boat, he booked us into the Miami Marriott and made us reservations for dinner in their restaurant, and arranged to have us fly out of Miami the next day. He even arranged for transportation to the airport. It was so comforting.
This is different because I didn't book my flights with a package so they will be on their own. But like I mentioned earlier, most of the airlines if not all will have no change fees to rebook another flight if you couldn't get on the one you planned for.
