We need a board just for:
"April 2013 DISers who are paranoid about illness before and during their trip"

I think I qualify for that. On Wed, one of my neighbor's sons was home with the stomach bug. On Thursdays, I have to pick DD up at school the same time DS gets off the bus and he usually walks home with their other DS and stays there for the 5 min it takes me to get back. I told him yesterday to wait outside on the porch - don't go in! Even though I know my neighbor had bleached the heck out of her entire house I'm taking no chances!!!

I had a sore throat from Christmas until about 2 weeks ago. After 3 trips to the ENT, a nasty 24 hr test to rule out reflux, and 3 rounds of antibiotics come to find out it was likely an anerobic bacterial infection (which will not show up on a throat culture) that needed 3 weeks of a strong antibiotic. If he doesn't get better soon you might want to bring up the possibility with the Doc - I had to fight with them for weeks to get them to listen to me. What finally cleared it up was clindamycin. No one else in my house got it - phew.

thanks I will have to write that down. Hopefully I won't have to put him on another antibiotic but if it doesn't go away I will. They are now trying the it might be allergies. But only after I questioned if it was. Poor kid just got spacers put in and next week getting braces on. I didn't want to wait until after Disney to have them on because that would put him over a month behind. He has to have a lot of work done on them.

DD3 started with a stomach bug on wednesday that I now have. DD5 sounds awful and both girls with a runny/stuffy nose. (Should make for a pleasant flight). So far DH seems ok....cuz we all know if HE gets sick it truly is the end of the world!! He was sick for our first trip and it was just miserable. Here's to Pepto and pixie dust!

I hope everyone is better soon. Why is it when men get sick it is the end of the world? I always said I know why women have babies because the human race would die off it men had to do it

Ahhhh vacation. Loaded the car last night and woke up dd2 at 5am we are about 6 hrs from daytona and 2 days on the beach before magical wdw!

As if the Man Cold wasnt bad enough, last night said he was having chest pains and alli thought was HELL NO, you are not having a heart attack a week before disney. Lol.

Our trip is two weeks away today! Heading to work early for some last-minute Florida clothing. (Shameless plug: TJ Maxx is getting summer stuff in now! )

Random question for anyone who lives in/near Florida: What do you guys usually wear during 'winter'? I'm trying to figure out what to get for college. I'm guessing wellies and a good umbrella are a good idea...

I had to laugh at the man cold comment. We(dh and I) just got over the flu and even though we both got it he was the one crying and complaining about it all. He did make some home made chicken and rice soup though so all is forgiven.

We just did the braces thing, DD16 just got her's off last month. The one thing I remember is she said the spacers were WAY worse than the braces. So it shouldn't be too bad. I remember her crying because of the pressure from the spacers. She never had a problem with the braces. Now the expander (a few months later)......another story.

oh that is good to hear, I will tell him that. I had braces when I was a little older then him but never had the spacers so I don't know what they feel like, I am sure it is not fun. Thanks for sharing

I remember when I first got braces, and they were uncomfortable for the first few days, but not really painful.

Having braces can be annoying, and it really sucks sometimes, but boy is it worth it. I've been braces-free for four years and my teeth are basically perfect. Now I don't have to worry as much about food getting stuck, being unable to get it out with a toothbrush or floss, and getting a bunch of cavities or gum disease, which was one of the big concerns that led to my parents choosing to get me braces. I can brush and floss with ease now. I had my braces for almost five years, which is way longer than most people, but I still wouldn't change a thing.

Omg, this is pure torture.....i have/had nothing to do today so nothing to do but stare at the clock and wish it was Thursday,lol. At least tomorrow i have to work for a few hours and then i have 4 more days to get through. Theres not much going on at work either so i expect lots of staring at the DIS and FB.

Omg .. We leave tues and I am such a germaphobe.. I have my Clorox spray. I was late coming into finding out about it and I almost could get it online unless I bought like 95 bottles.. Lol my worst fear the stomach big. Ds came home from school on Thursday and said " so and so who sits next to me projectile vomited all over today".. I'm like omg please no.. And now after reading these boards I know there are people that will still b sick but will be flying.. I hope that spray works..
I shouldn't be worried about this stuff I should b totally excited that we are leaving in 3 days.. Lol

It's officially Sunday, we leave our house in 77 hours. I am going to be insane to deal with until then. I know illness will be all over the airport, plane, resort, parks....I just need to practice the serenity prayer...accepting what I can and cannot change. Just a big pill to swallow with such an expensive trip and so much anticipation. I hope everyone here gets well and/or stays well for their vacations. Not that I want anyone sick, but I would really hope if we do, it is after the trip, while at home.
