I was just thinking the same thing. I personally loved Clay Aiken. I am not obsessed like some of the others have been but I think he has a beautiful voice and knows how to use it. And I am not a teenager either. So, like Liz said, to each his own. ;)

Mr. Aiken appeals to all generations. . .sorry the above poster found him so annoying, but my Mom, Sister, Daughter, and I just LOVE his voice! Since he placed 2nd in AI (by a very slim margin) and has sold many more CDs than the "winner", someone out there must agree with us! BTW, I haven't seen my teen years in many decades! :cool1:

What up with Carrie???!!! She has zero personality, and is completely devoid of the "it" factor. Yes, she has a good voice, but her performances the past 2 weeks have been a real snooze. I'm not buying the farmgirl persona, either. She's way too confident for her own good. I can't figure out why Simon has been pushing her so much other than she's country and country can sell a lot of records.

now, he is not really famous but did make a lot of money and didn't make it into the top twelve!

WILLIAM HUNG

I did not buy his cd though!! I do think I would buy Bo's or Constatine's however

lol Just goes to show that hollywood is not based on talent.

I guess that Scott is OK, but lately his look reminds me of Cartman on South Park for some reason :rotfl:

OMG!!! I will NEVER be able to look at him without laughing now!!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

But how could any adult out there actually vote for the sappy renditions of the 2nd rate pop songs as sung by Mr. Aiken.

Only because he's the best American Idol contestant they've ever had! If you ever watched his live performances, you would be amazed at the voice that came out of him. I remember when he first auditioned, I laughed at him when he walked into the room, because he was just some skinny, geeky looking guy and I thought he was just gonna be another one of those really bad people. As soon as I heard him sing, all I could think was "Wow!!" He had such an amazing voice and had such a great personality, he just had the whole package. I still love watching American Idol, but I have yet to find someone that is as good as Clay.

I'm just warning you, there are many many other obsessed Clay fans here, so I don't know how they'll react to your comments!

I'm not a teen and I've watched all the seasons of AI. I have bought both Kelly Clarkson cd's and also Clay Aiken's cd. I want to get Josh Gracin's cd also, just haven't gotten around to it. Didn't really like the winner last year or the runner up so I haven't bought anything from them and never will.

This year is still too early to tell who I'll be routing for. I like Bo, but I also like Scott and Anthony, for the girls I like Carrie and Jessica and Nadia...my music tastes are all over the place.

Listen, my comments were not intended to call into question Mr. Aiken's personality. Though I know nothing about the guy, I will take your word he is a fine example of an upstanding young man. And about his voice, again I do not mean to imply that he is without talent. Obviously the man was born with a set of golden pipes.

What I object to is how Mr. Aiken has chosen to use his talent. I just think it is creepy how someone can sing with such a lack of discernable emotion. Having been bombarded with his singing for the last year of my life, I have become somewhat of an expert on Mr. Aiken's inability to express any kind of feeling while he sings.

Maybe I'm just an old fuddy duddy wanting my singers to actually be able to express themselves while they are holding a tune. I guess that particular ability is something that has gone out of fashion. Maybe my tastes in music are behind the times, but at least the people I like are able to express real emotions. The problem with Mr. Aiken (and those of his ilk) is that he is only a shallow facsimile of those who have come before him. Instead of bringing any actual originality to the songs he sings, Mr. Aiken is instead soullessly reproducing the work of true artists who came before him.

But as long as people are buying his CD's and Mr. Aiken is making a few bucks, I guess his glorified karaoke show is entirely justifiable in today's cut-rate music industry. An industry that gets excited over the plastic song stylings of fakers like Clay Aiken instead of promoting those with actual talent.

Okay, now I understand, the jig is up Simon, come out from behind that Mossman mask! :p :p :rolleyes1

I personally think Bo will win the competition. Not that he is the best but he is what is next. Look at the winners so far...Kelly CLarkson, good strong female voice who sings the top ten pop stuff. Then Ruben (my favorite so far) He is a big man with a smooth voice that sings soul and gospel. Then we have Fantasia, not sure what she sings or what happened to her but she is very different from the other winners....So for some reason I think the winners will be something different just because....I know that makes no sense because America is voting....but that is what I think.
I also think it is a shame the blond guy is in it this year. (yes I think he has a nice voice) but I think he has been compared too much to Clay and will give him an unfair disadvantage. I personally like him better than clay, better package and stage presents. But when I hear him sing I think...been there done that, need something different.

You did hear him butcher Sting, didn't you? This guy is BRUTAL. I think people like his personna more than they take into account his real musical talent. He's more of a performer than a singer. To me he sounds like a poor man's John Waite ( lead singer from a band called The Baby's, for the youngsters on the board ).

But you missed my point.. Constantine has the perfect voice for his type of music. Sting is not his type of music! There aren't many people out there that can do justice to a singer as unique as Sting. I think it's a poor choice for any of the contestants to try to measure up to a singer with such identifyable originality like Sting, Freddy Mercury, etc. But mainly those that are identifyable because they have a unique voice, not that they are wonderful singers (like Tom Petty vs. Stevie Wonder) A good voice can do justice to Stevie Wonder. Try to do a Tom Petty song and you just end up looking like a second rate imitation at the end.

I was so happy that Scott made it through, I actually stood up and cheered. I think he has a wonderful voice, but truly thought his appearance would have had him eliminated by now. Not that I think anything is wrong with his appearance, but you know how "Hollywood" is, and what they deem to be beautiful and talented. I don't quite understand why people are saying "I hate this one" or "I can't stand that one". Do you mean you don't like their singing voice, or are you basing those statements on the personality that you've seen so far on the show, and if so, is it really fair to make those kind of statements when we don't really know these people? :)

I'm not arguing your point, cuz I think Constantine is awful, but technically Kim Locke finished 3rd.

Did I say top 2? I meant top 3 :teeth:

Mikalah................a young Barbra Streisand..............NOT!!!!!!!!

.............anyone ever hear Streisand's version of 'You'll Never Know', from when she was 16 years old, made in one of the recording booths they use to have in the 50's. Even then, she had a surreal voice. Mikalah voice sounds as if she where drowning when she sings. Her tone is uneven, she annunciation odd, she swallows all of words---she is just bad.Even the young girl who played 'young Barbra', in her final concert tour had an unbelievable voice (which by the way I was there for Streisand's final concert night at Madison Square Garden).

Anyway, I find listening to Mikalah painful. The botox lips, the chest job, the big hair---just all to much for a 16/17 year old. It's like I am waiting for "Mama Rose" to shout from out back stage---'"sing out Mikalah, sing out". She is everything that is wrong in a youth wanting a career in entertainment.

I am going to agree with you. My mother is a BIG Streisand fan, she has been since she first saw Streisand on tv, when mom was a teenager. I have been listining to her for as long as I can rember sound coming from the radio speakers. When ever I tell her that people are comparing Mikalah to her American Idol, her face says it all...NOT!...and do they have a hearing problem.

I still can not belive that she made it to the final 12! I think that Amanda should have her space.

I agree that Mikalah is no Streisand. Not even in the same ballpark.

I don't see what all the fuss is about Constantine. Sure, he's cute but to me Bo is every bit as appealing. I've always loved the rocker style and I think that Bo is more genuine than Constantine. I would love to hear Constantine sing a proper power ballad though to see what he can do with it.

Speaking of William Hung, has anyone seen the commercial for Ask Jeeves with him in it?

I know I haven't been posting here much lately, but I just had to share my American Idol experience! I just got back from spring break with Jules (wdwfanatic288) and we stayed at the same hotel as the American Idol contestants. Most of them were on our floor, we stayed right next door to Constantine and Mario. Bo said hello to us, had a nice conversation with Anthony, talked to Mario and Anwar a lot, and hung out with Constantine a few times (we even watched Monday night's show with him). We saw the girls, but they weren't that interesting to us lol. Everyone we met was soo nice. No jerks :)

(sorry if this post sounds like I'm bragging, I'm not! I just wanted to let you guys know how nice and friendly these people really are, well at least the ones we came in contact with :) )

I saw it a few days ago. I thought it was pretty cute.

BTW, anybody interested in meeting here on Tuesday night for a live AI chat? (We could act as our own DISboard panel of judges!)
