Official all things Princess Half Weekend 2015 thread! DOoneY and offical mErcH on DisneyParksBLOg

I'm running the GSC in 2015. I just ran the ToT and I ran the GSC in Feb. I've had a lot of issues with my knees and have tried a few other things, but I'm now looking at the KT Tape. I wish I had done the free wrapping at the expo for ToT to see. Has anyone used it? Not just for knees, but anything? Pros and cons? Any help would be tremendous!

I called and applied the Visa room discount to our reservation today. We're staying in two rooms at Pop Century. I also had an extra night on the reservation since I did the rooms before the flights. I saved a bunch! :thumbsup2

As far as training goes, I finished the Couch to 5K app on Sunday and started the 5K to 10K today. The second app is a 9 week program and we are at about 19 weeks out so I'm feeling good about my progress so far.

I've used it on my hamstring in the past- it made a HUGE difference. I used the video tutorials on their website to figure out how to apply it correctly.

So, the Galloway training plan for PHM started this week. Is anyone else following that or are you doing your own plan?
I've got Wine & Dine, a local Dec. half, the Jan, 10K and half, plus all 3 Princess races coming up, so I made my own plan. :thumbsup2 I do recommend Galloway's plan for beginners (and experienced runners, too!), though - follow it, put in the training, and you'll have a great race!

Hey everyone,
This will be my first (and last half marathon) so I'm wondering what more experienced runners take with them on race day. My phone is a given so I can take pics. But I'm not sure what nutrition or hydration needs to be packed in the race pack for the day. Is the hydration along the route sufficient?
What about other items. I don't want to be a pack mule but I don't want to leave out something essential either.

Thanks for your input.
You'll want to experiment and find what works for you/what you need as you go through training. Everyone is different! But it does help to see the wide variety of what others use, so I'm happy to contribute to the cause...

iPhone for GPS/music/pics
Clif Shots for fuel every 45 mins
Handheld bottle - I prefer to sip regularly instead of gulping at water tables. I just add water/Powerade to it from the tables as needed.
Med alert bracelet
a little cash and a credit card, just in case, plus room key
inhaler (exercise-induced asthma)

Questions for you guys this morning!!!

How does Disney time our race? Do we have a chip on our shoes?

And when does the time start for each runners? When we go thrue the start line or when they start the race?????

It's chip-timed with a chip attached to your bib. You'll end up with a gun time, which is your time from the official start of the race, and a net time, which is your actual time from crossing the start mat to crossing the finish mat.

FrenchSnowWhite, big hockey night. I have to ask DD if she has downloaded the app, I see listed on the website. I know she was watching some videos, lately. This summer at Epcot she bought a Canadiens tshirt at the Canada pavilion. Wouldn't you know, she was trying it when a Bruins fan was in the area.

Thanks for the encouragement. I always enjoy reading your posts and blog.
I did 4 miles today. I work weekends so my long runs have to be during the week. Deciding to become a runner is not an easy process, but I'm looking forward to the challenge.
Let's do this Princesses!!!!:cheer2:

YES! I have recently started using it for my knee (runner's knee and I took a fall where I landed directly on my knee cap-not fun). It helps ALOT! I find myself wishing I could wear it all the time. I usually do wear it for a day or so after a long run. I just followed the tutorial on youtube. Just remember to ice and rest as well. Only con is that if your skin is not completely clean, it doesn't stick as well and it can be a little pricey. I bought mine from Amazon for $15 a roll with free shipping. :thumbsup2

Thank you both so much! I'm definitely going to get some and try it out. I've watched the tutorials to see if it was something I would be able to do on my own and I think I could handle everything except the back of my knee. I'm just not that flexible! :rotfl:

mbwhitti, OUCH! When I was in cosmetology school I slipped on some hair and landed right on my kneecap. They thought I broke it, but I had actually torn some cartiledge. I've also torn my meniscus. I think it's safe to say my knee and I don't exactly see eye to eye on things!

I use Rock Tape - it can stay put for 3-5 days!!

I've thought about trying the tape after seeing it at an expo. Has anyone tried anything else to ease the discomfort of Runner's Knee? Wondering if I should try a new shoe (was fitted in July, but I'm putting in significantly more miles lately). Have also heard positive things about the foam roller. Thought/Ideas??

I've been following this thread from the very beginning-figured I should finally join in :)
I'll be running the half in Feb. with a friend. It will be my second half marathon, first Disney race. I am so excited!

Kinda forgot about Disboards for a while :(

But! I'm coming back over from Ireland again next February! :cool1:

The running has gone down the drain quite a lot since PHM this year but Ive been in the gym getting fitter and fitter so that'll surely help - I'm hoping the newly found muscles in my legs will aid with the running motion. Should probably start training soon though! ;)

And this time I'm coming with a friend - super excited! She's canadia, but lives in Ireland at the moment!

We're also signed up for the castaway cay challenge - neither of us have done a cruise before :D I'm wearing "Stitch" again - and she has ordered a Lilo costume from Iglow so keep an eye out for us this time four months ;-)

Got my scheduled run in this morning, in the rain. Was just drizzly when I started; finished with a steady soaking rain. Felt good to get out there and do it. Weekends are hard for me because I work 12 hour night shifts Friday - Sunday. Anyway, I felt empowered that I got it done. Finished up, took a shower and climbed into bed. :cool1:

That's awesome! Way to stick with it!

Ran my 10k on Saturday and while I got a PR, it still wasn't as fast as I had wanted. My training has all but stopped, I just don't have the motivation lately...at all. Anyone else feeling this???
