Official all things Princess Half Weekend 2015 thread! DOoneY and offical mErcH on DisneyParksBLOg

I got a new piercing last Thursday, so I've taken this week off of training for the Wicked 10K next month. I'm hoping to be healed up enough to get back to it on Monday. Training has been going well, much better than expected given that I have piriformis syndrome in my right hip/lower back, and I need new shoes somethin' fierce. The ones I have are pretty worn and I think I need more support. Depending on finances, I may go and get fitted for new kicks next week.
good luck

DD and I just updated our times. It was easy peasy online. DD has a eta of 2:41 and mine is 2:15. We plan to run seven miles this weekend. I have a quarter marathon in October to help my sister get a qualifying time. DD has another 10k in November. Then it's official PHM training.

Sorry to hear a bunch of you are injured! I just came down with a cold, so no running for me today

pixeemom, when I first started running I just walked when I needed the break, and now I can pretty much run 8km without a walk break, but I am meaning to try intervals, just to see if it helps me improve even more.

Another one for the slacker club. Did the DL 10k, and did a few runs in the week or two after, but my knee started to feel funky so I took last week off. Work is crazy for the next few days, but I'm planning to get back on track next week!

Glad to see people posting their progress and encouraging words here. It will help inspire me to keep up with the training.

I agree - good to see people posting and great to hear everyone's progress :thumbsup2 Have my qualifying 10K on Sunday, and I'm really nervous! Not sure why, it is what it is, but I'm really hoping to get a decent time. Our weather has been beautiful the last couple of weeks, so we've gotten in a lot of runs.

Up to 9 miles in training, looking to do 10 next Friday. Keep it up everyone :goodvibes

Just registered for my qualifying 10k race - 10/11/2014! 8 miles on the training plan for this Sunday!!! This will be the furthest so far :)

I will be attending a conference at Disney Yacht Club during Princess Weekend. I am also entered in the 5K and Glass Slipper Challenge. Is the Yacht Club a RunDisney host resort with bus service?

Where do the 5K and the 10K races start and end?

Every resort is a host resort for PHM weekend. All races start and end at Epcot.

Thanks!

I am guessing when the races are over we will not be permitted to walk thru Epcot to the International Gateway to get back to the Epcot resorts an we will have to take a bus back to the resort?

Has anyone tried using a FlipBelt before? I'm trying to figure out what I want to use to keep my camera handy during the race (without having to carry it in my hands- I know that will make me crazy). I keep seeing stuff about the FlipBelt and how great they are but I'm wondering if it will be comfortable to have my camera in there...I want to make sure I can get good pictures during the race without having to pay a fortune for the official race photos :)

I'm seeing the sports medicine specialist on monday to evaluate what's going on with my calf...really hoping he'll give me the okay to get back into training mode!

I finished after epoct was open for the day and had my park ticket with me so I could walk through the park.
If you finish early or don't have a ticket you will have to take a bus.

Does this include the Swan & Dolphin?

Yes it does. Keep in mind though that all the Epcot resorts use the same bus to take you to the start so we have 5 stops in total. I think S&D were one of the first stops on the route.

I have a flip belt & love it. I hold my phone & inhaler in it during my training. :)

Ran my first ever half marathon yesterday! :cheer2:

Have to say, the last two miles were tough, but I kept with my intervals and am feeling great today. Feet are sore, but no other issues. :thumbsup2 It helped that yesterday was the first day we have had that has been below 90 degrees! :cool1: 60s is an awesome temp to run in.

I had a wonderful support crew for the race too. Three of my friends were doing the half as a relay, so I had fresh conversation (and a replenished belt) at miles 6.5 and 10.5. The middle leg was a dirt road through historic tunnels, gently rolling, so the fresh teammate was a great help on that tough section. Made my first half a bunch of fun. So excited for the Princess now!

I need a good balance of protein, fat and carbs to feel good on my runs. One or two of these, plus some greek yogurt is my go-to breakfast. I'm trying to figure out how to bring these with me to Disney in February! I usually have a big bag in the freezer and pop them in the microwave for 20 seconds.

bekkiz, thank you so much for sharing this recipe. I have a batch in the oven right now. I really struggle with breakfast food and these are just what I have been looking for.

Hi all!

I figured it was time to stop by and say hi.

I'm hoping to run the 5K ... I'm registered and training (see link to my training & PTR in my signature), but there are some logistical issues that may prevent me from going down there.

Anyone else do the 5K and have advice or tips for a first-timer? (This will be my first 5K ever and first race I've run since about age 8)
I'll take advice from people who do longer races too, I just don't know how much it will apply to me ...

You'll be fine in a 10k if you've been running 9 and 10 miles :) A little bit of nerves isn't bad either, there's a lot that's unknown with a race until you're out there!

I've heard good things about the flipbelt, but haven't used it personally. Good luck with the doc, hope you get good news.

Yahoo! Congrats! Sounds like an interesting race route, and how lucky to have the cooler temps.

Well, I made it through my 10K yesterday :cool1: It was a tougher course that I thought it would be - had a loooong uphill stretch in mile 5 which really took it out of me, but I was able to finish strong! It was a beautiful, sunny day so that helped :thumbsup2 I'm really surprised how sore I am today though - I've been running 3 times a week and have run longer distances without any issues. Luckily, no real pain, just sore thighs ;)

Continued luck to everyone!!

You can walk through EP - IF you have a park ticket, as you'll enter as a park guest. However, the buses are right there at the finish area; very close and convenient. I stayed at YC for the WDW Half this year and wound up taking the bus back because I was tired and sore and it was right there waiting for me. :)

I've run most of the WDW 5Ks - they're a lot of fun! My advice is to train for it, then take a deep breath and enjoy the experience on race day. :woohoo: The 5Ks are very low-key and low-stress. I did all 3 Princess races this year, so approached the 5K as a party: I walked almost all of it at a leisurely pace, stopped for tons of pics and just plain had fun with it. It was a blast!

Thanks for the advice.
"Take a deep breath" is the hard one for me - if you see someone at the 5K wearing a jean skirt and hyperventilating that's me! I'm planning to stop for almost every character (maybe even every character ... depends on how many characters there are at the 5K), so I'm hoping that helps me enjoy the experience.
I'm training by running 2x/week and trying to up my distance (this morning's run was 2.37 mi) and actual running time (I'm currently doing intervals of 2:00walk/3:00 run, but I'm hoping to actually get the to the point where I can just do straight running the whole time ... but taking it slow). I think I should be in good shape for the 5K ... assuming I keep running once the weather starts getting colder.

I just finished reading through all 90+ pages of the thread ... you people are all amazing. That's all I have to say.
