Official all things Princess Half Weekend 2015 thread! DOoneY and offical mErcH on DisneyParksBLOg

SO….no early Visa registration or discount?

For the half, I think they could at least have some kind of secured spots for those that have run every year.

I can't remember how quickly GSC filled up last year. Should I be right there at 12? Thankfully my meeting for that has been postponed so I can get on right away.

:thumbsup2 ::yes:: Totally agree!

Yeah, that's what we all said, lol! ;)

:rotfl2: Yay, welcome back to the madness... again!

Honestly, I think she has to want to do it -both the race and the training - first and foremost. If she's not interested in training for it, I can't imagine it'll be a very fun race. OTOH if she's a soccer player, she's already in great shape, so she may be able to get through the race with little training. Then the question becomes are you okay with her winging it, or will her choosing not to train create stress and tension?

See, now I'm the total opposite - I'm a HUGE fan of rD's pre- and post-race support! I'm not arguing; just pointing out for new folks how different people have different thoughts on what "good" is. I adore the items in the snack boxes and much prefer them to the white-bread bagels I've gotten at other races. And the party atmosphere with a DJ spinning tunes totally gets me going, especially as I am NOT a morning person. I don't love needing to get up so early, but I figure it is what it is and deal with it as best I can. :)

I've actually had the opposite reaction... I race non-rD races for time and to see what I can really do with my training. But having done a few of them, I totally understand the cost associated with rD now; there's just no comparison, to me, when it comes to entertainment, running through parks, on-course support, medals... As much grief as I give rD about other stuff (I'm talking to YOU, rD marketing!), I honestly feel like I get what I pay for.

You can find pricing at http://www.rundisney.com/princess-half-marathon/. Here's the 5K info:

I'm pretty much of the same mindset as V. Ahem rD marketing. LOL

Except I will agree about the WDW races is the lack of on course spectators. You get like 3 areas of awesome but that's it. DL races have a lot more of this and it makes me REALLY happy to run there. It's kinda like having the best of both worlds. You get the parks in the front, and the regular road race in the back.

Post race: meh, I just need a banana and some powerade and put my butt on a bus. I don't hang at any race after the event. When I'm done running, I just want to go home. I feel like I should stay and enjoy it all, but frankly, I hate running (ha ha ha) and when it's done I want to do my recovery mantra asap.

Pre-race: again, DL rocks, WDW does suck. But I love the energy and excitement and all my pals, soooo it works for me. Doesn't work for everyone.

And side note- I am BACK on the fence about the PHM weekend. waaahhhh why can't it be the good old days where I could decide in November?!

I don't have a blog post about it, but it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life! So...RAH RAH RAH!

I mean that sincerely. No sarcasm at all. You should definitely do it.

Thank you for your post! I am getting really tired of all the negativity lately surrounding PHM. I guess I look at it as that I intend to make my own magic surrounding this race. This will be my 2nd Disney race (did ToT last year) and I let the magic be taken from me in my 1st race...this time I am making the magic! I know I don't have to worry about being swept this time around, time is not my focus, and I am making lots of Disney Running Friends who share my outlook on enjoying the moment (okay enjoying it while your body is screaming...NO WAY).

Exactly. You make it magical. Sure it is crowded and hot, but you are running in DISNEY WORLD! I had so much fun just doing that, I didn't want to get in any picture lines or listen to any music. I just enjoyed the experience! I also felt that pre and post race were great. I did have Race Retreat, but I hung out a bit outside too. The DJ was fun and the snacks were more than I have gotten at other races. Also, I know it was probably the heat, but the cool towel was AMAZING. The volunteers and cast members were great and spectators were very loud and supportive.

All the other anxious DVC members like me, I just checked and the link is finally up for early registration :). It's not active yet, but it's there! Phew;)

Good luck to everyone registering today!

Can anyone confirm the time the DVC link goes active? Noon?

Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards

That's when it should be, noon Eastern. It can be +\- a few minutes though. I think one race it was a bit late 15 mins or so due to one of Disneys many technical glitches;)

I'm so torn about when to register. I have an AP, so could do it today, but also have a Disney Visa and want to get the discount. I'm fairly sure the half won't sell out with the early bird, but I'm just excited to be registered as soon as possible :cool1: Anybody else have this issue and what are you doing??

I have the same issue. Last year when I registered (I did not register early), it asked me during registration if I had any coupon codes. I am registering early today and hoping it will let me type in the Disney Visa code (which is the first 4 digits of your credit card number, from what I have read).

Fingers crossed!

Last year, it filled up really quickly but that may have been because it was the first time that race ever existed. I would be there right at 12, but then I'm a bit of a paranoid over-planner.

Oh, great tip! Didn't know about that, but I'll try it too :dance3:

Now, I have to try to get home from work early today ;)

True - can't argue with that. But I don't care about having spectators, so that part doesn't impact me, personally. I'm that weirdo who loves the long stretches of open highway, lol!

You're totally doing it again and you know it. ;) Need some enabling?!

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Seriously the BEST attitude to take into the race - you'll have a blast!

I've had really good corral placement and weather luck registering early, so I'll skip the Disney Visa discount and go for AP registration. Not that I'm superstitious or anything. :rotfl:

::yes:: I always at least try using the Visa code - worth a shot! FYI it can be the first 4 or last 4 digits; try both.

Just find out that AP and DVC member won't be able to register for the 5K at noon, they will have to wait for July 15th ;)

I noticed when the GSC, 10k and PHM came up finally the 5k was conspicuously absent from the links. How did you find out the 5k isn't available until next week for registration? Just wondering because I wanted to know why it was not there but wasn't sure who to ask...

I've logged in to active and DVC and checked to make sure all my info is accurate. Now just watching the clock tick by very slowly:rolleyes1

Watching the clock and clicking the link every few minutes. This will be my first half marathon! So excited to experience it. I'll probably be in the last corral, but I don't care. It's running through Disney!

17 min and counting...

This is my first time doing this as an annual passholder. I have both my passholder account and active account pulled up.

I am hoping to register myself for the half and multiples for the 5K. According to the above, I may just be registering for the half today.

Anything else I need to do or be aware of before noon gets here?

TIA!!

I'm jealous of all you that are registering today. Good luck ladies. :cheer2:
