Official 2017 D23 Expo Thread

I'm surprised there is so much negativity with the additions and changes. Disney just threw a haymaker at Universal and it landed square on the chin. Yeah the prices will increase and they always do, but the crowds still come. To think they had room for Tron and were able to still keep the Speedway is amazing. Ratatouille coming to Paris and really not losing any of it's space, WOW! And finally getting a Mickey stand alone ride, the only one in all of the parks is simply incredible. I for one will work Xtra hours and save up for this when it opens. My heart is pounding with excitement...

I actually kinda felt most people are mostly happy... there may be a few complaints here and there but by and far everyone seem pleased at the amount of news and that there are cool additions/changes! I know there's things I'm nervous about but I'm also pretty excited for a lot of stuff

HA! How are your math skills? Riviera will be 4x further to HS theatre than EPCOT World showcase.

You're talking about distances measured in hundreds of feet.

The point is that there's nothing to see in the backside of showcase...while the front side of mgm is still more interesting.

Do you want me to take you on a tour of Caribbean? I can blindfolded.

I'd say that's fair...

The iger "thing" is still there: lack of coherent theming and forcing IP with a short term view of where they're going.

They claimed they are developing a new technology for it that they call "2 and half D."

I wish there was a clear video posted of the demonstration they showed of one of the "test scenes" they built. I was only watching it over periscope, but it was hard to tell what was screen and what was moving parts. It looked pretty cool. I want to watch several more times to see if it really is cool or if I was imagining it.
This is a video of the Mickey Ride announcement. The part with the "experiment" on the new visuals is at the 5:30 mark.

ETA: I didn't see that @rteetz posted this already, but I should have figured...

Yes, hundreds of feet. 4 to 1. Last I checked illuminations was viewable from 360 deg, esp a several stories up.

You'll see them both. You'll see illuminations way better, maybe 4 times better.

Don't get me wrong, I know you'll have to disagree because that's what you do.

I am drooling over all of the WDW parks announcements! My only concern is that I want to still be able to use uber as it is generally cheaper than $20 per trip. I only use this if I'm late to an ADR. I'm so so glad we are getting the tron ride! Also the new roof top restaurant sounds amazing! I wonder how it will compare to the California grill :-) The 50th anniversary sounds like its going to be quite the spectacle!

There's definitely a lot to like. I don't like the Mickey ride announcement personally but I just love old Hollywood. That's going away now and DHS is turning into...? I'll certainly give the Mickey ride a chance.

I love Tron, Star Wars, space restaurant, maybe the theater, maybe Toy Story. There's a lot unknown still.
I hope they can find a different way to incorporate old hollywood classics!

I loved the old Hollywood too but I realized some years ago it was not gonna last. I think it was when they got rid of the old Hollywood stars characters because too many people didn't recognize them anymore. So if it's gotta go then this looks like some worthwhile replacements. We'll still have our memories.

I still think front of the park will be "old Hollywood". The boulevard/sunset aren't being touched (for the foreseeable future at least)

and honestly, we can give that one thing to universal right :joker:
