Official 2017 D23 Expo Thread

They claimed they are developing a new technology for it that they call "2 and half D."

I wish there was a clear video posted of the demonstration they showed of one of the "test scenes" they built. I was only watching it over periscope, but it was hard to tell what was screen and what was moving parts. It looked pretty cool. I want to watch several more times to see if it really is cool or if I was imagining it.

I hope it's good...for sure. It is a dark ride though...so I expect it to fall short of Spider-Man...which opened in 1999

I'm surprised there is so much negativity with the additions and changes. Disney just threw a haymaker at Universal and it landed square on the chin. Yeah the prices will increase and they always do, but the crowds still come. To think they had room for Tron and were able to still keep the Speedway is amazing. Ratatouille coming to Paris and really not losing any of it's space, WOW! And finally getting a Mickey stand alone ride, the only one in all of the parks is simply incredible. I for one will work Xtra hours and save up for this when it opens. My heart is pounding with excitement...

Totally agree.
I've been pretty picky about my Disney likes and dislikes. If they do something I dislike I'll call them on it.

And imho every one of these new announcements that I've read I like. I was worried Star Wars land would be half baked. Worried Speedway would be gone. Wanted more Mickey centric content for my daughter who loves Mickey. And any transportation that's not a bus is welcome. Plus space restaurant? Awesome!!
Best Expo ever.

I think a lot of this was meant for Comcast...not the merch hoarders in the crowd...

And the financial reason is espn, etc.

Little doubt

Found the screen shot of their presentation map. It's in the treees on the north side of CBR, right on top of EPCOT's works showcase, behind Germany/Africa. It's a LONG way to HS. I'm sure you'll see them, you'll see EPCOT's a lot better.

I have to say I'm surprised...you don't seem to understand where Caribbean sits...the distance between Epcot and studios for all practical purposes is equal.

And I will never understands this firework fascination...

But you'd expect there to be a Star Wars high vantage point show at studios...illumination is not meant to be seen outside the park...because you can't spend for beer at the dolphin...

Anyone at boardwalk or beach club has seen that mgm is a better view. That's not gonna change.

Either way I like rooftop dining without fireworks! just to see the parks from that vantage point I feel is a plus

I know I'm old news now that all the parks stuff is out...but in case anyone cares about my day...

In line for live action at 3 am. Surprise, they loaded us weird and my section almost didn't get in even though we had people who'd been there at midnight. It was close and people almost rioted, seriously.

Best part was Mary Poppins, the Lion King opening sequence, the Dumbo maquette and the Avengers.

Got a book signed by Marty Sklar. Met 3 parks artists. Saw the POTC archives. Met Moana, which I was really looking forward to but it was a mess. We had a vinyl record of the soundtrack for her to sign. When we bought it we were told if we paid $10 for a lithograph she would sign both. When we got to the front of the line they were trying to push people through so they could let standby in. They told us we could not have the litho signed and said no pictures. We were literally pushed up to her and then shoved away, I set the litho on the table and she did sign it. From the 5 seconds i saw her she was so sweet. It was not her fault. I was pretty upset, I understand wanting to let more people meet her but I got to say maybe one word before I was being pushed away. She barely got to sign my stuff. I got a papercut from the line handler shoving my litho at me. It kind of put a damper on my day.

We saw the droid trundling around the SW pavilion. We got some freebies at Disney animation and Pixar pavilion. Sunglasses, lithos, a pixar lanyard, pins, a Coco guitar pick. They were constantly handing stuff out so we hung out a while.

We stuffed some bags for kids at hospitals, they had a booth set up.

We saw the Kiss Goodnight panel...Richard Sherman played Supercalifraigilistic, Feed the Birds and the Kiss Goodnight. I feel like my life is complete.

Afterwards we saw Ben Schwartz, a Duck Tales voice and Parks and Rec star and the voice of BB8. He took a selfie with me and did the 'duck tales, woooo'.

I would love to get Marty Sklar's autograph. I really want to watch the Kiss Goodnight panel. I saw some of it when he was playing the piano but I would like to see the whole thing.

They talked about writing/making the Kiss Goodnight book. It was pretty interesting. But OMG that music...I could have listened all night. I didn't even record audio (everyone else did though). I just wanted to be in the moment.

HA! How are your math skills? Riviera will be 4x further to HS theatre than EPCOT World showcase.

There's definitely a lot to like. I don't like the Mickey ride announcement personally but I just love old Hollywood. That's going away now and DHS is turning into...? I'll certainly give the Mickey ride a chance.

I love Tron, Star Wars, space restaurant, maybe the theater, maybe Toy Story. There's a lot unknown still.
