Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

I have a 5k on Saturday and it is at night. I don't usually run at night so I'm not sure how I'm supposed to eat all day. On top of that, it is supposed to rain. Not just rain... thunder, lightning, the whole nine yards.

I run with a local club two nights a week. I avoid heavy foods during the day and make sure that I'm well hydrated. With time you'll learn what foods sit well on your stomach. For me it's usually a shrimp spinach salad from our local Greek & Lebanese restaurant. :)

Perfect illustration of how each person is different. I would never try eating raw veggies on race day, but it works for MousekaMama! I eat such bland food it's ridiculous. lol

Thanks for the info.

Just as I thought the door was totally closed, it opened again JUST A TEENY, TINY BIT. We would have to cut the trip down to 2 nights (Fri & Sat) and fly home at 3pm on Sunday, but we may still make this work.

Any fingers crossed, lucky horseshoes, 4-leaf clovers, or voodoo ceremonies are welcome and appreciated!

Doug

HOLY COWS OF MAGNIFITUDE! We're back in the race! My mom offered to change the dates of HER vacation a couple days so that she could watch our kids. Wow. We're still halving our trip, but OH MAN is it worth it.

All this stress probably would have caused me to lose a few pounds, but unfortunately, it also collided with Halloween, so all that candy pushed my weight the other way. :scared:

Now, on to more important topics: I loves me the chocolate milk after a race, but my wife does not. Which means I get TWO chocolate milks after the Indy 500 Mini Marathon each year. In other news, NEVER TRY AND DRINK TWO CHOCOLATE MILKS RIGHT AFTER A HALF MARATHON. :crazy2:

Probably a good idea. :)

It's funny I would NEVER think of drinking normal milk, or a milkshake, or a latte or anything, after I run, but that chocolate milk, YUM. Perfect.

And now I want an espresso milkshake. ;)

Does anyone know what the deferral date for the Enchanted 10k is? I had a stroke on October 17 while at Disney and while there is no paralysis, I can barely walk around the block without getting winded. I'm hoping by next month I'll be much better but want to be prepared just in case.

@MaryJ I'm so sorry that happened to you. Best wishes in your recovery. :(

If I recall correctly, the deferral link for the Disneyland Half weekend didn't pop up until July (with the race weekend being in September), so it's possible it won't be up for another month or so for Princess. Maybe email runDisney and see what they have to say?

Oh No! I'm so glad that there was no permanent damage and I hope you recover quickly. But take as much time as you need and don't push yourself!

I usually take a chocolate protein drink with me for after a run.

Anyone else using kids night out or another sitting service to watch a little one? We have to hire someone and I am sick to my stomach over it. Please reassure me if you have or plan on using this service, that all will be ok!

Is that fast enough to get out of the last corral?

I can't say for sure because I don't work for runDisney or Track Shack, but based on anecdotal evidence from previous years ... the last corral is often people who don't submit a POT. Based on last year's corrals, with a 13 min pace you should end up somewhere in the middle (I think).

Have a great race!!

Im running my first 10K tomorrow!

I'm hoping to get a decent POT to submit. I've been maintaining a 13 min pace. Hoping to get a little faster by February.

Is that fast enough to get out of the last corral?
I agree with @SarahDisney, you'll be ahead of anyone that doesn't submit a PoT...I'm pretty sure.

Good luck and have a great race!! :)

I personally am comfy saying "of course".

I personally believe that if you even put an estimated time when registering (as long as it isn't one that requires POT) then you're likely out of the last corral.
is being in the last corral bad?

is being in the last corral bad?

I wouldn't necessarily say that it's bad, it's just a little more crowded and it can be difficult to make stops for pictures/characters because the lines may be a bit longer and you don't have as much of a cushion between you and the sweepers.

If you can maintain a 16 min/mile (or faster), don't mind a little crowding, and don't plan to make too many stops, the last corral is fine. And the faster you are, the more time you'll have for pictures and stops. I think people prefer earlier corrals because it gives you that cushion and because there are fewer slow people that you have to run around. But you can still have a great race even if you're in the last corral.

Is anyone else reading the Wine and Dine thread and getting so excited?

I tried to change my estimated time for the 10k and Active has it closed for editing now. I originally put 15-16 minutes but I'm running closer to 13 minutes. I wanted to change it to give myself that extra cushion of time. Oh well, now I know for next year!

I haven't. You might get more responses if you create a thread in the main forum as you will get everyone who is doing or ever done all the other races. The childcare issue is why my husband doesn't run with me. Right now the plan is to drop the monster at my parent's house and enjoy the weekend alone but they are known to flake on me so we have to be ready with the backup plan.

The only RD race that I have done so far is the Princess 10k this year. I had just started running so I had no POT to enter. I did early DVC registration and my friend (also a new runner) did regular registration. She was in the last corral, but I was in the second to last corral.

I ended up moving back to start with her. We were sort of near the front of the corral. The worst part of that was the wait. It was super cold and it took what seemed like forever to get the start.

At the time of the run I was doing about 13 min/miles. I spent most of the race passing slower runners and walkers. That is a big difference between running at Disney and running elsewhere. Since my Disney race I have run about a dozen local races, from 5ks to half marathons, and I rarely have to dodge anyone because I am usually somewhere in the back third of the pack. There are lots more beginners and slower runners on the Disney course. It's actually a great race to start with because it seems like more of a party than a race, if that makes sense.

Oh bad weather makes a race so much harder I think. I hope it's not too terrible tonight. In some ways though bad weather makes me run slightly faster, because I just want to get done with it all! Good luck!

I'm so sorry about your stroke. Good luck on your recovery!
