Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

So, Wine & Dine-ers: did you happen to get pics of the medals at the W&D Expo???

My guess is that they're not ready yet.
I went to the NYC marathon expo two weeks ago and they didn't have the Star Wars medals yet ... and that one's in January. I'm guessing that Star Wars will probably be at Avengers, and Princess medals will be posted online in a few weeks.

Last year, I think Run Disney posted photos of the Princess medals online the weekend after Thanksgiving, not sure which day.

I'm looking to order a couple of shirts from Raw Threads (Love their stuff) for PHM. Does anyone happen to know if they have "overall" sales (10% off your order) or just sales for specific items (These items are now on Sale). TIA!

I logged specifically to see the 100 day countdown! YAY! :yay:
Woohoo!!

OMG - definitely wait a few weeks to order anything from them. There's no guarantee that they will do it again this year, but last year they had a pretty big Black Friday sale (or it may have been pre-Black Friday, I forget). I just looked back through my email and I got a few of their $40+ shirts for $22 or $31 each. That sale sort of ruined me with them - now I can't pay full price for any of their stuff (which is a bummer because their turkey shirts are super cute). Definitely get on their email list if you aren't already.

Hmm, I am trying to remember from last year. I think there was a Cyber Monday or Black Friday promotion, but I can't recall. I went to their Facebook page and looked up posts from last year, and I can see posts about sales, but no specifics. Just things like "biggest Black Friday Ever". They do lots of mystery pack sales, shelf sales, which are limited quantity, and I know they'll have say "25% all rapunzel merchandise" but I can't remember for certain if they've done a %off total purchase. I am waiting to see if they come out with holiday deals to make my purchase. Unless there are any deals at the Avengers expo.

Clearly my typing was slow this time;)

Okay, can you tell I'm not yet in holiday shopping mode (must adjust soon actually) because I didn't even think about waiting for Black Friday sales. I'm a goober! :rolleyes1 I signed up for their newsletters so I'll try to be a bit patient and see what kind of sales they may have that weekend. Thanks for the incredibly helpful reminder!

Does anyone else have a specific song that helps them pace? Mine is Lose Yourself by Eminem. Sometimes I sing along and it helps me get in the zone. This could be why my husband won't run with me. ;-)

Ok, this is going to sound super-lame, but "Black Widow" by Iggy Azalea has a really good beat for running. It's my guilty pleasure running song.

I also like Glee's cover of "Dog Days Are Over" by Florence & The Machine. "Magic" by B.O.B f/Rivers Cuomo is pretty good, too.

I actually saw something on the news about that being the best song to work out to. I'm not an Eminem fan, but I'm thinking of trying it. Mine is Applause by Lady Gaga. I'm not a huge fan of hers either, but this song always makes me run faster.

I wouldn't buy any running gear before Black Friday, unless I had to. Everyone has a sale around that weekend, it seems!

Adore that song. And ever since I saw the youtube video of the young woman signing to it I adore it MORE. (apparently she misses a lot, but she does it to the beat and is SUPER-passionate)

Not so much for pacing (it's a touch slower than Lose Yourself I think) but Til I Collapse is also working for me so far. Also by Eminem.

LOVE Roar for pacing.

I do walk/jog, and I've been finding that a 1:1 ratio works (though it's annoying!). I'm dreaming of a software that would allow me to make 1 minute of walking music, then 1 minute jogging pace, etc, without having to hit "forward" and only ever hear the first minute of a song. Create a playlist like that...1 minute of Roar, 1 minute of a slower song, the next minute of Roar, the next minute of the slower song, etc etc. Then put that on my MP3 player.

Anyone know of something like that?

I'm not a huge Eminem fan but that song makes it so I hit the ground with every beat. I tried to start my last race with it but since I was running to keep from being trampled, it didn't work well for me.

I got an unexpected email from rD today, and I figured some of you with more experience than me at other rD races might help me with a question I have. It is an invitation to participate in a special way (their term: secret mission) to pick up all my packets and commemorative items for Avengers weekend. I am doing the 5k and the Challenge, plus I will be going for my Coast to Coast. I've never heard of this before, but I've only done PHM weekend until now, and while I read other event threads I don't follow them closely. I don't know if it has been offered at other DL events. Does anyone have experience with this runDisney offer? It says the offer can not be transferred to anyone else, but I am wondering if I can use it to get all my stuff, and also get my family's (kids and DH) 5k packets? I've emailed for an answer but with it being after business hours, I am just curious if anyone here can help me figure it out. The offer also includes a 6:30-8:30 am early shopping experience on Thursday, but I won't be to DL by then.

OK, now that it is starting to get colder out ( or was, but decided warm was good) we have started running indoors. Can anyone tell me how that will translate to running again outside? find running on a treadmill MUCH easier. I'm faster, hurt less and can go longer intervals (I'm still doing run/walk). Im happy at how well I'm doing, but crazy scared i wont be able to do well once I'm at Disney. So, if you have any tips, tricks or advice Dis Familia, please share!

Some tips and advice:

1. Set the incline at 1% or more. You will never exactly replicate the effort it takes to run outside, but this is a good approximation.
2. Vary the speed of the belt every 15-20 minutes to avoid potential soreness or injury from the same repetitive motion over and over again. Running outside, your pace and stride and gait are never exactly the same, but on a treadmill they are.
3. Make sure you get in at least a few runs outside before race day. Your body builds ankle and foot strength when running outside due to the uneven terrain. You need to get some of this back before the race or else there's a risk of getting shin splints.
4. Use the hill or random programs to simulate different terrain and keep things a bit more interesting

Thank you! I don't normally run on a treadmill but snow may force me inside during the winter so this will be helpful!

I had a year that I did every training run for the Princess on a TM. Not fun, but it can be done. I do prefer to run outside, but hate the cold..anything under 50 and sunny.
You can google stuff on TM running and you will gets lots of different information...but for me I just have to get into my head to stay on the thing for long periods of time. I do listen to music and not always upbeat as there is nothing to do but keep up with the belt so I think a lot which usually bring me to pray for others.
Yesterday I did an hour and 20 minutes, second Monday in a row pouring down rain. :crazy2:
