Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

Received some inspiration today my Sparkle Mail came today. Love it! Ordered a Hiker Chic "Trippin"!!
I made a trip to our run store yesterday they spent around 2 hrs trying to help me. I normally run in Mizuno Prophecys 4 , they changed my shoes to NB 1080 Fresh Foam. I have an Achilles problem and the heel collar of the shoe it killing me in the back of the heel. The NB shoe has no heel collar much more comfortable. I tried on another pair of NB that were lighter but the drop was half of my Mizuno's, they would not sell me them too much of a drop difference with my Achilles. So I decided on the 1080'set they feel like big sofa's compared to my old shoes. I would never make a change like this being this close to a event, but I'm desperate. So I decided to go to the experts to help me. Did an easy 5 km in they yesterday it was better less pain so some positive coming out of this. More Physio on Monday hoping for a miracle! I just must Believe! I will be fine!

Those are my shoes! They were the first running shoes I bought and it took the Fleet Feet people almost 8 pairs before we picked them- my heel seemed to slide around in everything else. I enjoy them very much.

I just want to thank everyone who chimed in on the "what do you eat during the race" conversation. I found some SportsBeans at the big sporting goods store, as well as ONE lonely bag of Honey Stinger chews. I don't know where the rest were, I scoured that place, they had boxes of the waffles, but just the one bag of chews-that I nabbed. On the long run today I fueled twice- around 50 minutes and around 1 hour 50. Once with 3 SportsBeans (rookie mistake, way too many! I felt like I was chewing a golf ball! Fortunately I tried them at a water stop and life moved on) and then with 1 chew. The chews were so much easier to eat, but I liked the beans, I had a couple 30 minutes before I ran- seems like something easy to pop while I'm standing in a corral- as long as I have water.

And post run I feel so much better than I normally do! Almost every run of greater than 10 miles , while I feel fine running, I have felt queasy and out of it for an hour after; but today I feel great. Which is good, because our plans for Sunday have us at EPOCT- and nothing should stand between me, my Canadian cronut, and the feast at Garden Grill.

(Although I just saw that SOARIN is going to be closed until summer and that is a bummer- I love that thing.)

I actually find the beans easier to eat. I'll get a few in my hand and eat them one at a time. They don't take as long to chew and don't make my hands as sticky.

Ravenclaw the whole way

Woohoo! Go Ravenclaw! Though I did just get resorted into Hufflepuff...

Yeah - I haven't seen anyone with 5k bibs available for a while, pretty much since medals came out! But you can always try calling TAs! I got my Jingle Jungle 5K bib at the VERY LAST MINUTE from Jim Stone at Acclaim Travel, so there's always a chance!

I'm going to take this as a sign that I should sleep in on Friday to prep for the glass slipper challenge! :)

Side note, my IT band didn't hurt once today! I think Doctor-friend S was right that it was tightness and caught early. It was also an easy day at work so I didn't have to jog at all. I'm going to wait another day or two to try running but I think I will be good to go for the races! Thank you for your help!

Ok so I know that they donate all clothing thrown on the side of the road that is shed thought the race. Will wearing a blanket in be an issue with the new security measure? I am also going to be using the race retreat so will it really be necessary for the layers? Sorry for the dumb questions. My first rundisney event

No, it won't.

Race Retreat is a HUGE tent, but it's still a 30-minute walk from the tent to your corral, so just plan appropriately.

If this weather keeps, you won't need a blanket to stay warm. The walk to the corrals will warm you up, unless you plan to get to your corral the minute corrals open - which kind of makes Race Retreat a waste.

Quick question for those of you who use the compression sleeves....do you find that they cut into your ankles and legs just below the knees? I have tried to wear them b/c so many runners rave about them but they are just so blasted uncomfortable-I even got a different size thinking I had gotten them too small; but still hurt.

CEP *kills* my ankles. Feels like a python is wrapped around them.

Zensah, however, is really good. Same compression in the calves and shins, but a lot easier on the ankles. I have squishy knees, and neither really bugs them, but the Zensahs look better in pictures than the CEPs, knee-wise, so I suppose that says something!

I just checked out Road ID (I've been meaning to get one, but my absent mindedness makes me forget all the time!) and was wondering if anyone knows if they fit on Garmin watches? It would be soon much easier to do that than wear another band on my wrist!

I don't think so.

@Keels Any chance you could PM me the agent.. ? My wife Really wants to do these races and I missed getting her registered once again.. :)

Thank you so very much!

I was going to mention Acclaim Travel, but the previous poster said they are now sold out. There are some smaller TAs that post on the Facebook Princess page. They come out when people say they want to run GSC.

For Princess last year I got m medal engraved at Arribas in MK for $6. This year for the WDW Half I wore my medal to Disney Springs on Sunday and the guy in Arribas engraved it for free!

Ooh.

slytherwin

I see what you did there. :)

Now my shins are killing me and my husband wants me to get up and make dinner.

Harumph at the husband!

Ravenclaw the whole way

Ravenclawsome!

Same. I'm ignoring it. Pottermore has lost its mind.

On the other hand, a quiz elsewhere (same questions as the Pottermore one, but it was actually out before P'more's new one) resorted DH from H'puff to Slytherin. And honestly, with his new career stuff, I can see it. I mean, he's super loyal etc, H'puff, but he's getting more focused at work, and that seems Slytherin-y.

Would give him something other than Yet Another Wand to buy during our next trip to UO, at least, since he'll hae to replace his scarves. (ah but one will require a trip to London, since we bought his second, less Steelers-colors-ish, scarf, at the Platform 9 3/4 giftshop.

No issue. If it is, take it off when going through security.

When I did Retreat January of 2014 the tent was still mighty cold. It wasn't AS cold as it was outside, but it sure wasn't warm. Temperature-controlled doesn't mean the same thing to me that they think it means...

unless you plan to get to your corral the minute corrals open - which kind of makes Race Retreat a waste.

Agreed.

Exactly. I have taken several sorting quizzes and they all put me in Ravenclaw. Hufflepuff is always the second highest, but nowhere near Ravenclaw. I have always felt like I'm more of a Luna. Maybe not as out there, but I definitely march to my own drummer and don't really care how many people like me.

Thanks bumbershoot! Had you ever seen Zensahs at the expo?

Thanks pangyal! Interesting reading there! :dogdance:

Ok, so it makes me feel better that it's not just me! :yay:

Do you find that the zensahs get tight around your knees or ankles? I don't think that my calves are extra large but I've even tried the compression socks at Walmart made for diabetics, probably not highest quality but even these dug into me leg just under my knees. Maybe I'm just not meant to use them but I just wanted some experienced princess sisters' opinions. :-)

No knee or ankle tightness issues with the Zensahs for me. Where the compression sleeve hits my knee area, I am 12 1/2" around and I wear a S/M.

I have not ever seen them at the expo. I have 2 sets and they both came from Amazon. .

I have a question about bib pickup for the Glass slipper. Does anyone know if you pick up the 10k and the Half at the two different locations or do you pick up both in a special spot for the glass slipper only.

Thanks!!

You will only get one bib for both races for Glass Slipper. There is a separate booth area for glass slipper. You will have 2 corrals on your bib. Last year I was in A for the 10K and E (I think) for the the half. My bib had A/E printed up in the left hand corner.

Thank You Very Much! Exactly what I was wondering.

How's the weekend training going for everyone? I did 5.5 miles yesterday and 10 miles today. My first outside runs since Jan 1.

I will be making my first outside run since Jan. 1 tomorrow...and my last long run...12 miles or 2 hours...what ever comes first! Yesterday I cross trained and worked in the yard for 2 hours so today I am taking a rest day before my LR.
We're getting' close now!

I also just did 3 miles today. Had planned on 4 but my new shoes weren't laced tight enough. Had to stop and adjust them due to ankle pain. Not taking chances on injury so I went with 3. (They're he same make and model as my current shoes but want to break in a new pair before Princess weekend. I remember this happening with the current ones too making me think my shoes were a little big.)

P.S. I'm not sure when I became the person who refers to 3 miles as "just". I seriously can't believe how far I have come!
