Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

It should be an interesting weekend. As I mentioned some time back, I was hit with a case of Plantar fasciitis a couple of months ago. I've been following my doctors advice: wearing a foot brace each night, eating an ant-inflammatory diet, doing endless toe scrunches. I've gotten back to the point where getting out of bed in the morning is not excruciatingly painful, just mildly annoying. What I have not been doing is running/training. So my first long run in months will be the Disneyland 10k. Dumbo or bust.

As I could have expected there was no long run, or any run for that matter, during D23 Expo this weekend. I think I'm still tired. I guess my longest training run for my first half will be somewhere between 9 and 10 miles. Here's hoping for the best!

I hear you. I just haven't been able to get things going after spraining my ankle a couple months ago. I haven't run more then 9 miles since then. I'm in corral A but won't running what I hoped to for the 1/2 as I'm pretty sure that will be longest "run" in a long time. Hope your foot feels somewhat better by race day!

So many injuries :(

Mouseplanet had happy updates in their DL park update this week as far as refurbs go. Looks like California Screamin and Tower of Terror will stay open in early September!

Yeppers, Good news indeed. It looks like Haunted Mansion is the only major closure we will have to deal with race weekend.
(Not counting the dead stuff like the Starcade and Innoventions)

Even though your long run will be 9-10 miles, I think that's still plenty. Adrenaline will carry you the last 3 miles. I'm thinking you'll be just fine...

Our last day in the parks in Sept 11 so we'll get one, probably very busy day, to ride HM, I love the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay! mmmmmgingerbread house <3

Thank you for this reassurance. I figured as much, but nervous for my first half!! I've never trained this much before and now that I have, really wish I would have. It's a great change, but a new distance!

Sending lots of healing vibes to @SgtTibbs @croach @nostalgic4disney ! :goodvibes

@SgtTibbs and/or DL rD veterans - Any advice or suggestions on where I can spectate the half without a ChEAR Squad package? Or do you think I should get the ChEAR package? I would love to cheer y'all on! (and maybe even provide snacks? Is that a bad idea? This will be my first time spectating any race.)

Cheering is never a bad plan. Given the outline of the course, and what type of time commitment you want to make, I'd suggest the esplanade between the two parks ( ~ Mile 2) which is near the start of the course, and then if you feel like hanging around (or just wanted to sleep in a bit and come later) walk over to the corner of Harbor and Disney way (~ Mile 12) to catch the return. From a personal/runner perspective mile 7'ish is where I typically could use a cheer because that's about where I start thinking what a stupid *** thing this is to be doing and there is soooo far left to go, it's too damn hot, old ladies are passing me, everything hurts, how far back are those damn balloon ladies? and I want my mommie.

Snacks! Did someone say snacks?? I will say someone in the crowd at the PHM made my wife's day with animal crackers!! I will admit, the cheering people make my day. We are by no means runners, just Disney people. But the signs and cheering complete strangers will do for you is AWESOME. Like SgtTibbs says, it definitely pushes you through. @pamster THANK YOU for cheering wherever you line up!

I knew that you'd have awesome ideas, @SgtTibbs! Thank you so much. I'll also check out the area by mile 7 to 8 and hopefully come up with a funny sign just for DISers ;)

@jag90 Awww I appreciate the suggestion and encouragement! It's going to be so much fun to hang out with fellow Disney people :teeth:

I need the Disney Blog to post a preview of the merchandise, like, yesterday.

Even though they've been suuuuuper late with that over the past few races...I remember looking at the Wine & Dine merch preview when I was in the airport waiting for my flight to WDW 2 days before the race...

Oh I know - it seems like they don't post the merch info until like the Wednesday before the race. Dying to see what what the designs will be and what will be available. I leave on Aug. 31st to begin my trip so I know I won't get to see the preview until after I'm already out there. Between the 60th anniversary and race merchandise, I better make room on my credit cards. :yay:

I ran my first (and only half) last year with a fractured shin (I really thought it was just really bad shin splints...oops...:confused3), but because of the pain I actually didn't run more than 9 miles ahead of time and even that was 3-4 weeks before the race. For the two weeks leading up to the race all I did was the elliptical for training. You can totally do this, and remember have SO much fun!! :)

Do they sell coffee in the pre-race pen area? I'll have the pot in the room (Grand Cali.), but was wondering or does the Grab & Go food place there open early on race days? I was so worried before the WDW marathon about getting coffee that morning and then didn't even have any because I had the flu & couldn't stomach it. So, I'm in coffee planning mode again! thanks!

I thought I read in last year's thread that the Downtown Disney Starbucks was open that morning...hmmmm.....

I remember last year the Jamba Juice in DD was in the process of opening as I was walking by, around 3:40am'ish I think. No guarantees it will be open again this year of course.

Did last long run week #16 of the DDD . Yesterday did the 5 miles (8.05km) with my run group , this morning got up at 4 am to meet 1 of the girls training for the R&R Vancouver Oct 25 at 6 am for the 14 miles (22.5km). Ron came out too to run part way with us. I planed a route that we could drop him back home around 14km he did 15km. Good show for him! With his hernia! We finished out the rest of the run, little problem for me calf tighten at 18km just as my physio predicted. Man see knows my body! Had to walk a little to stretch it out had to do this a couple of times but I finished. Iceing and heat sitting in Lazy Boy now ! Missed last week's training due to this calf an old injury shows it ugly head every so often. Taking it easy now just doing maintenance runs now really listening to my body. Last week took the whole week off did massage, physio did dry needles, naturopath did ozone injections. Calf felt really good I'm dumb just pushed it a little with this run, physio told me I didn't need it. But I was following the training program just stubborn! I will look after this now more treatment session scheduled. Monkey off my back!
St Tibbs sending you healing energy!
Sparkle Skirt ordered my first one ! I have ran in it twice! LOVE IT! All those pockets to hold all my goodies for my run! Totally Thumbs Up! Thanks everyone for turning me on to these skirts.
Can hardly wait! 15 SLEEPS! ! ! Till we leave!
