Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

Can anyone of you experienced folks help me out with spectator info? This will be my 7th RunDisney weekend but it will be my first time with someone there to support me- my friend just decided this week to come down- yay! She mainly wants to watch me finish- is there a place for spectators at the finish line if you have not purchased a Chear Squad package? And is it hard to get there from one of the Harbor hotels? I am doing the DDD but think she might only come see me in the half. I remember last year that the route through Downtown Disney got totally congested during the 10k but is it easier for the half since we don't run through there? I will be in the back of the pack if that matters. Thanks!

Yesterday I went to my local frozen yogurt shop and saw that they were offering Dole whips in all but name. It's less than two miles to get to, so I see a lot of "training runs" to here in my future!View attachment 116120

OMG! There is an Orange Leaf down the street from where I work, but I have never gone in there. After seeing your post, I told my hubby that i was "on a mission" and drove down there to see if they had it and OMG! It is real! I am in so much trouble...

I'm having a Dooney dilemma. Really loving the d23 bag. Wish there were a better picture of the DL Half bags. Guess I'll decide at the expo.

Forgive me if this has been answered here already. I don't have time to search the thread.

If arriving to DLR via car on race morning, what time does the Mickey and Friends parking structure open?

They never officially list it. And I'm not even sure what the official time is. But we've shown up at around 3 maybe 3:30 am on half morning and parked (let's just say I like to be at the front of the corral so I get to the start area early). I think it correlates directly to whenever the volunteers have to start the first shift but I'm not sure of the exact timing.

It opens suuuuper early. I feel like in my handout from Tinker Bell this year it was open around 1:30-2:30 in the morning, so somewhere around there most likely.

I hope the temps are not like it will be tomorrow on the half weekend.

There's a half going on in San Diego tomorrow called the America's Finest Half. It's the third leg of what's called the triple crown where you get an extra medal for running three races. They made the drastic but safe call that due to temperatures tomorrow that if the temps hit 85 degrees at anytime, whoever has not reached the 6.3 mile mark will have the option of getting shuttled to the finish line or continuing on... less the 2 miles that will be closed off. They even are giving the option for runners in the half to run the 5K. In all scenerios, they have made it where runners would get the half medal and the triple crown medal (even if they just run the 5K).

Crazy...

Looking for some training advice. I had to move up Galloway training plan by one week due to my work schedule. So, this weekend I did what would have theoretically been my last back-to-back long run session before race weekend. I did 4.25 miles on Friday, and then only made it through 10 miles yesterday when my plan had been for 12 miles.

Unfortunately I recently moved to a very hot area of the country, and I'm still adjusting to the extreme heat. To top that all off, I have always tended towards overheating/heat stroke, so getting out early in the morning for these last few long run-walk sessions has been essential for me. Right now, the "coolest" temps of the day are 80-82 degrees at sunrise. Yesterday, because I had to do more walking than running in this heat, it was about 90 degrees by the time I reached 10 miles yesterday. My legs felt good, but I was starting to get a heat-induced migraine so I cut it short. Despite my best efforts at consistently hydrating, I still have trouble running when the temps get to the high 80s/low 90s.

My question: I'm wondering if I should try for one more long run-walk session next weekend. It's supposed to be a tiny bit cooler next weekend (likely 78 degrees at sunrise), and I'm thinking it'd be nice to get in at least a 12 miler since my last half marathon was back in April. I'm just not sure if that'd be too much to do two longer training sessions on back-to-back weekends.

Obviously I'll play this by ear based on how my body is feeling throughout the week, but I'd love to hear some thoughts from the more experienced runners out there. I'm doing Dumbo Double Dare, which will be my first challenge race and my 6th half marathon since I started run-walking about a year and a half ago. Thanks!

OMG, the weather today, so hot! Motivation to run fast and be done before it gets too hot outside :)

At the expo, can you bypass packet pickup and go straight to merch like at WDW? I see that the Dooney table is downstairs with packet pickup. Is that just preorder or preorder and new purchase? Trying to decide if we want to just suck it up and make it through packet pickup first. We have to hit several tables though: DDD, 5k, party tickets, and get travel for park tickets. Any ideas? Anyone else have a gameplan? Or something they've done in the past that worked well? I know this space is a lot smaller than the expo at WWOS and DL uses lots of lines.

Another question, does anybody know where we get the coast to coast wristband? Will it be in our packet?

Based on Last Year, Yes you can go directly to the Expo.

The Dooney's for the past few DL race weekends have all been downstairs where the packet pick up is, both pre-order and new purchase. My best advice is always doing your shopping first and then going through packet pick up, which has always been super quick in my experience. I'm always there first thing in the morning that it opens, so I don't have to worry about missing out on any merchandise that might sell out, and on day 1 that is pretty much the craziest line. The last time I had to pick up a Dooney at the Expo I went (1) merch, (2) Dooney, (3) packet pick up.

Well I'm all set now, just ordered a car from Super Shuttle to pick us up at the airport.
The final detail is done.
Expensive but quickest way to the hotel/ just look for the man with sign with my name!
We are coming in at 2 pm, so want to get to the merchandise booth hoping to get 2 wine glasses. Wish we could pre order!
By the time we got to the hotel at Tink , took the milk wagon shuttle so much was sold out.

I think I would do another long workout next weekend. I think it's important that you try to get your body to adapt to the heat because it will likely be hot for the event. Just take it real slow - keep your intervals as short as you need to, just concentrate on finishing the whole thing.

Yes, you can do merch first. Having said that, last year we did packet pick up first and it wasn't terrible. There was still plenty of merch left by the time we got there. But we'll probably do merch first this year.

Booked my SuperShuttle today ($32 RT!)...I'd totally forgotten that I needed to do that until one of my BFFs texted me about it this morning. oops!

I did my 3 runs as scheduled last week, along with a TRX class and a yoga class. I was feeling pretty sore and then on Thursday I had a little back injury relapse, which occurred when I stood up (apparently the wrong way) from sitting on the couch for awhile. :headache: Looking back that soreness that I was feeling was definitely my body telling me that I needed to take a rest day, so I feel stupid about that. This relapse was nowhere near as bad as the initial injury but it was definitely annoying and concerning. I took the whole weekend off (which I'd scheduled anyway, and which was why I didn't want to take a rest day during the week) and I feel okay today - did 30 minutes on the treadmill/2 miles (mostly walking with occasional 1-2 running spurts) this morning, which felt fine.

I think I'll be okay for Disneyland if I'm a little smarter this week...having said that, this is definitely dampening my excitement a little bit. :(

For this week I think I'm going TRX tomorrow, rest Wednesday, TRX Thursday and then my peak back-to-back...5 miles on Friday and 10-12 miles on Saturday depending on how I'm feeling, and hopefully yoga at some point. Doing the planned 14-miler has always seemed like overkill to me for a casual half (just my personal opinion), and I'm lucky that I have completed halves and challenges before, so I know I can do it - I don't need the 14 miler to give me that confidence. But at the same time I think I'll feel better if I get SOME sort of simulation in this weekend.

15 days until check-in! Can't believe it's almost here already. :faint:

Advice needed for Post Tibial Tendon support. I've been dealing with this PTD for about 2-3 weeks now. I have not ran for about 2-3 weeks and I am hoping to still do my 10k run. I am sooooo bummed about this! I've tried orthotics, short compression socks, stretching- which helps tremendously, but it is still there!!!:crutches:
