Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

I don't know why I'm not getting these emails all of a sudden? I get the "don't forget to register for xxxx race" emaills, but nothing for the race I AM registered for. WEIRD.

I have never ever received a single email from RunDisney, ever since I first registered on their website to be advised when registration opened (good thing I wasn't relying on them lol!), all the way through last year's half marathon weekend, and then again this year. Between the DisBoards and a facebook group that I'm part of, I'm really not missing out on anything!

I am VERY nervous for my runs this weekend. I was good and took a rest day yesterday, like I said, and my back has been feeling pretty good. But I'm still nervous!

I'm trying to get myself pumped up so I figured a good way to do that was to pick out some cute outfits to wear...yes, it has come to this. :upsidedow

I have my Princess Half ADRs tomorrow first thing in the morning and then I'm heading right out the door for 5 miles - I think I'm going to be super cautious and do run 2:00/walk 1:00 intervals. And then depending on how that goes maybe 3:00/1:00 on Saturday. :confused3

I also figured out that my shoes I use for cross training activities (TRX + general walking around) were totally shot, so I pulled a new pair out of the closet today. SO MUCH BETTER!

Way to go @kelly 1!! Hope that calf is feeling better! :)

Good idea to go a bit more cautiously if you're concerned about it. You definitely don't want to go too hard and injure yourself this close to the race! Good luck :goodvibes

Those shirts are awesome :thumbsup2

@RENThead09 those shirts are awesome!

So I did my 5 miles this morning - 2:00/1:00 intervals. It went pretty well! I'd be lying if I said it felt perfect the entire way through - my back didn't hurt and wasn't sore, but I was still *aware* of it, if that makes sense. I feel good now...going to try for 12 tomorrow.

Also gotta finish outfits this weekend! I may try to plus my 10K outfit, which is pretty simple right now. :)

Way to go! I'm thinking about skipping the back to back part of training this weekend. I've had some super long work days this week and can't seem to catch up. I ran 2 miles yesterday and thought that I was going to die. So, I'm shooting for 10-11 miles tomorrow or Sunday. Last long run before the race!!!!

Seriously, speaking from experience - if your body is telling you to take a rest day, TAKE A REST DAY. I wish I'd been smarter about that last week. :rolleyes2

Looking forward to getting that last long run in, for sure. We've got this!!

And sidenote: I was talking to one of my BFFs yesterday - she did the marathon in January. And we were both just marveling at how we were in marathon shape at the beginning of the year, and now...not so much. How quickly it goes away! :rotfl2:

Need some advice. I woke up early yesterday morning with a sore throat, and by the evening, it had developed into a cold or sinus infection (stuffy/runny nose, occasional cough/sneezing, and post-nasal drip). I am supposed to do 6 miles on Saturday and 14 on Sunday. My last long runs were two weeks ago at 5 and 12.5. We all know that the big events are just 2 weeks away, so this is my last chance to get long runs in. I have always followed the general rule that if it is above the neck, then moderate exercise is fine; below the neck, you rest. I have never been sick at this stage though, right before the most important long run of the training plan. I am just not sure what I should do...

I am trying everything I can think of to get over this junk. I am currently drinking lots of green tea, both cold and hot. I am taking Airborne, Zicam, and Mucinex. I had chicken noodle soup for lunch and will not be attempting a calorie deficit. My thoughts are to walk my 6 miles tomorrow at an easy pace, and take it really easy the rest of the day. On Sunday, I will follow my normal long-run schedule, but only go out 2 miles on the trail and repeat that as many times as I can. That way, the farthest I will ever be from my car is 2 miles if I feel I cannot continue.

Thoughts? Is there anything more I can do to help me through this? I really, really want to see this training plan through to completion. I have only missed 1 weekday run the entire 16 weeks so far and don't want to quit now. Of course, I also don't want to be sick going into the races in two weeks...

Your idea of trying to get the miles in slow & easy is smart & keeping close to your car in case you get worse, no sense pushing it and having the cold get worse and stick around longer. Personally I might cut it to 4 & 12 or just a 12 and cut it back if you start to feel worse. Keep plenty hydrated! I came down with the flu the week of the marathon in Jan, ran the race with it, and the key was staying hydrated and not pushing it. It was rough so hopefully you'll get over this quick. Better to have it cutdown training now then stick with you to the race because you overdid it.

Good to hear your 5 miles went well. Good luck for the next one!

I will also be working on my outfits this weekend...

I think you've got a great plan! Depending on how you go with the 6 mile, you can always cut your long one back by a couple of miles. Just take it really easy, with the goal of just finishing the distance - take it as slowly as you need to, and even allow yourself a little rest (sit down for 5 minutes, eat something, hydrate, blow your nose etc) if you need it.

Personally, if I were suffering from a cold, I'd do my usual and take in as much orange juice/ vitamin C as I could and rest. As someone whose had sinus surgery and gets sinus infections every allergy season (twice a year here), if it's a sinus infection I'd use a sinus rinse. If you've never done a sinus rinse, get a kit with the correct solution, ONLY use distilled water, and follow the directions closely. I can control a sinus infection within 2 or 3 days with rinsing once in the morning, but they're not fun. If you decide to try a rinse, remember the instructions not to do it within an hour of bed. I wouldn't rinse with a cold

Just finished 10 miles! :yay: I was originally planning on 12 but before I left the house I decided 10 was the way to go. Don't want to push my luck. It was TOUGH - I got out WAY too late in the day, temperatures in the low 80s with full sun - but it's done and my back held up!

Outfits (because I loved them)...left is supposed to be a monarch caterpillar, right is a monarch butterfly :)

Awesome @Ariel484 !! DH and I did 10 this morning too. Low 70s, clouds, and misty rain. Humidity was bad but the other factors helped. Glad it's over. Last long one. 10 days until we are leaving on a jet plane! That's all I kept thinking about the whole run. We were able to run mostly the whole thing with a couple of walk breaks. 10:36/mile. I think we are ready

Got 14 in today, about 5 yesterday - the whole run today I too kept thinking yes, last loooong run & only 1 more weekend run to go. It was very humid here too, but luckily 75-78 degrees, figure it should prepare us for out there as it looks like it usually starts off 70% humidty & around 70 degrees but usually overcast.

Run outfits have been ready for while, only thing I'm worried about is running both races with small crochet hats pinned to my hair, I've tested them, but on shorter runs. Should be interesting I guess, I'm being Mary Poppins for the 10k & Dumbo for the 1/2.

QUESTION: I read the Santa Ana Trail has been paved, is that true? I know it was a dirt trail so wondering. I like trail so doesn't matter either way just want to be prepared.

Way to ruin the trend @cavepig, everyone else, including me, is running 10 miles today - did you miss the memo?

But good job nevertheless. Mine was a tough run, tried running at goal pace (if thats the terminology) and finished in 1:25 but was really hoping to at least run 13 miles at goal but I just crapped out...I think I got a blister on one toe and I'm using that as an excuse - not the huffing and puffing. Next weekend I'll try for one more run of at least 12 miles at that pace and then that'll be it until Dumbo.

Btw, during my run I was just thinking about not passing out from exhaustion, but then again that's just me...

Whaooo everyone! Congrats! Hard work it done! Taper now.
Love the run outfits Ariel !
I'm ready mind and body!
Looking forward to the meet and greet Thursday.

Haha! Sorry - - just wanted spend a long time on my feet I guess - & I found 5 pennies throughout the run, that's for the merchandise fund ha! Next weekend maybe 8 for me. Good job everyone, love reading how everyone is wrapping up these final weeks.

Last long run at our house too! I ran the whole 13.1 miles, DH bowed out around 10 miles (he's still working his way up after dislocating his knee a few weeks ago). I finished in 1:53:39, if I could pull off that pace in Disneyland, I will be ECSTATIC!! It's kind of a weird feeling thinking beyond the DL half. I am running a 10km race for work the weekend after the half, then another half on October 3, so I gotta update the training plan.

Thanks @kelly 1 @almacdonald!!

Angle is bad on the pic but with the caterpillar shirt I'm wearing a matching pair of capris. :lovestruc Actually might like those capris better than SparkleSkirts! :faint:

Congrats everyone on your last long runs! I'm off for mine this morning - will be aiming for 18km, which is just over 11 miles. Back to the cold Melbourne weather for me today, so hoping I can finish strong.

Next weekend I'm supposed to do 1.5 hours (according to my training plan), but I may cut that back to 1 hour because I'm planning to go for a long walk (like 7 miles) with friends if the weather holds out.

Made a good start on my Mulan battle outfit for the half yesterday. The 'armour' doesn't sit particularly well over my sparkle skirt, so I may cut slits in it to allow it to flare out a bit more. Then just gotta attach the shoulder 'armour', the cape, add some trim to my compression socks, make and attach my little balsawood sword, and figure out how/where to attach my bendable Mushu toy to my outfit. I couldn't find the right colour green in lycra, so it's a bit on the bright side, but hopefully people will still get the idea.
