Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

That would explain it. Though its probably not helped by a few hundred people showing up at the last minute trying to get into their corrals and causing a runner traffic jam.

Side note I had my last long run before Reykjavik and possibly the DDD today. A whopping 20 miles, on the threadmill. Which led to the hilarity/annoyance of someone thinking the activity is fake. Just because I have this strange ability to tune out my surrounding and knock out ridiculous distances on the treadmill (I do stuff like this all the time when I don't want to run outdoors because of the weather, last December I did all of my long runs going into the WDW Marathon (all 14, 16, and 18 mile runs) on an indoor track) doesn't make my runs any less real.
That's impressive. I too run on the treadmil because it is too hot to do it outside. I had a bad day today, only could do 13 miles in 2 hours but I was hoping to make today my 19 mile day for the month. Legs were fine but had no energy - I think I need to make sure to get some carbs in before these long runs. I'm new to running long distances and I didn't eat anything in the morning - though I did eat 3 GU and 2 gatorades while running. I guess I just didnt have it today - try again after my vacation.

Just got this bad boy today. Could definitely work for my half outfit (with black top and some sort of sparkly visor) in case I decide to scrap my 60th Minnie idea...

Dazzle looks way better in your photo than I was anticipating. When I first saw it I was thinking it could work, but not exactly what I was expecting. Arroyo happy with it? And do I see SeaSwirl there too? :) I'm such a Sparkle Skirt nerd. I ran in my comics skirt today and it was fantastic. :) The trouble with me is I like to many of them and just can't decide. LOL.

Wow, that is impressive! I did 11 on the dreadmill this spring and threw out my hip. Spent 6 weeks recovering. I had never tried that many miles on it before and I think it must have thrown off my stride. I am super impressed by anyone who can put in a lot of miles on a treadmill.

I feel like seeing *real* pictures of skirts always makes them look better. Sometimes the photos on SS.com are just BAD. I also feel like Dazzle is photographing less yellow than it actually is. I DO like it but it's a wee big snugger than my other skirts. The fabric is sooooo light though, it feels lovely.

Yep, that's a SeaSwirl! If I run tomorrow it'll be HFBluPlaid. :) Waiting for Namaste to get posted next, and I have a Let'sPolka (Dot) with my name on it too...

I like too many too. At least I haven't broken 30 yet...
That skirt's nice, but I love your 60th Minnie outfit! I think you should stick with that :thumbsup2
Thanks! Just the lazy side of me talking...;)

I know this has been discussed a little before but I'm thinking about the different options for race photos. Both from the Marathon Photo company that takes race photos, and the Disney Photo Pass images. Wondering what options people have felt worked best in the past. (Does pre-purchasing packages save enough money to make it worth it or have you been stuck with a lack of good images?)

Every time I look at my calendar I can't believe how quick the weekend is coming!
Also it was fun to read through the event guide, I like the description of the 10K with "Good vs Evil" playing out as you run through the parks.
Just wish they would have given us the 10K corral break down. (I'm guessing we will have to wait until the weekend arrives.)

I was told that it does, indeed, include a private showing of Paint the Night, in addition to the 8:35 pm showing that night.

The party also runs until Midnight and everything on the West Side - except for Haunted Mansion - will be running.

I'm planning on riding BTMRR, Splash and Indy about 1 million times that night, if anyone was concerned ...

I will be right along with you!

I'm so excited as this will be my first Disneyland run. I was expecting to earn a 'D' medal and was pleasantly surprised that we will earn a very special anniversary Disney medal. This trip is going to be so much fun and different from the other Disney races. My brother and his wife and my niece are going to be there to cheer me on and meet me at the finish line for the half marathon.

Also, I have been selected to be part of the medical volunteer team for the 10K! I have been assigned to the family reunion area.

I'm planning on going to the expo Friday at four-any thoughts on how busy it will be? Really hoping to get in and out.

There are 2 options for race photos. The only official photographer on the course is Marathon Foto. They do a 5k, 10k, half marathon and Dumbo package. If you are doing the 5k and another race, you will need to pay full price for both packages. You can buy a discounted voucher at the expo which you can use towards your final purchase. I think last year I got $75 for $50, so it was quite a substantial saving. I used it to buy the 10k package, which was $50, and one photo from the 5k, which was $25. Something went wrong with my account and it wasn't linking my 5k and 10k packages, so it was a whole lot of headache to try and fix that, but I got some great shots and was happy in the end. I'll probably end up buying the half marathon package with them again this year. I am choosing to do this instead of Photopass +

Marathon Foto won't combine packages for families or anything - you will have to buy a full priced package for each person you want photos of. If you're planning to run together though, you'll just be able to buy the package for one person and the others will just be in the photos anyway. Make sure you look at each person's account before you make your purchase. Sometimes even if there is more than one person in the photo, they'll just pick out the 'main' person and add the photo to their account only. If you are also in the photo (no matter how obscure), you can request to have that photo added to your account. Make sure you find all the photos you can with you in it to get the best value from your photo package.

The other option for race photos is to take your own camera (or phone). Like the PP photographers, the Marathon Foto photographers will also take photos in the official spots using your own device. There are plenty of Disney CMs and volunteers on the course who will happily take your photo too. Even other runners will offer! I actually do this too, as I want photos of the whole course, not just the bits where there is an official photographer. Because much of the parks section is dark though, the official ones turn out a lot better (I'm not taking my good camera out there!).

Welcome, and thanks for volunteering!

Week 14 of DDD training done! 5 yesterday and 12.5 today. Both were a bit rougher than I expected, but I got through it. I had a root canal and a crown on Wednesday and I think sitting in that chair for 3.5 hours triggered my sciatica.

One more long run weekend to go!

If you think you might buy marathon photos than make sure to check out their booth at the expo and get the prepurchase deal, wish we had in Jan but didn't even see their booth. Then on course just have an eye for photographers to make sure you get shots, even before and after the race they are around so grab one and pose. I run with my own camera too though as I love taking photos on course and at least at WDW marathon there were a few character spots that did not have a marathonphoto person, so without your own camera you were out of luck for a picture.

Never bought the Photopass disc, just a few ride photos here and there

OMG!! I hope you're feeling okay after that dental work. You poor thing!

Okay, so I managed to run twice this weekend - 3 on Friday and 3 this morning. No yoga...still getting over a bad cold. But I think I feel good enough to jump back into my normal schedule this week. Back isn't bothering me at all anymore. :)

I did my long run Saturday morning. It was supposed to be 18km (11.23 miles), but that's basically the hardest distance for me. I'm so close to the 21.1km (13.1 miles) so i usually just go the distance... and I did. 1:59. I'm pleased with that time, especially since I had to do it alone with DH being injured, he usually gives me a bit of motivation if I'm slowing down, or to keep running up the hill etc.

I did a 5km this evening and it was a tough slog. It's hot and i ate a bunch of junk.

I finally got the corral/bib number thing figured out. We're in A, I think my proof of time was 1:54, so technically I should be one of the slower runners in the group. I'm kind of relieved to not feel pressure to make my way to the front of the corral of 1000 people!

I'm still not sure what I will wear for race day. I'm definitely not a skirt person. I'll probably pack a pair of short and some capri-length tights and make a game day decision. I'm still worried about sunglasses. It's going to be too dark to start with them but i'll want them by the end. hmmmmm.............

Sounds like everyone's training is going well :thumbsup2 I actually caved this morning when I stepped outside to do my interval workout and it was pouring with rain. Decided to go and use the tready at the gym instead. I remember when I used to go to the gym, coming up to 2 years ago now. I could only walk on the treadmill to warm up and cool down, with the occasional burst of slow jogging. I was terrified of it too, and wouldn't let go of the handlebars lol! I was always so jealous of those people around me who ran fast for minutes at a time. Well this morning, I was one of those people I used to be jealous of, and it felt awesome :goodvibes

Last year for the 10k I carried my sunnies in my running belt. They were a bit annoying, but I was glad to have them when the sun came up. I definitely won't be attempting the half without them!

Printed my waiver, found the updated corral lists: looks like I'm in C. Now to finish my costumes!
When will they put out a list of characters that will be on course? Do they do that only at the Expo?

Agreed! Looks like everyone's training is going well. I did 11 miles this morning and I felt good! I've been taking Gatorade Endurance during my training runs so I'm contemplating on doing the same thing for the race. Now the training tapers!
