Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

I don't get the deal with the shoes. Do you collect them and put them on a shelf? Or do you actually run in them? Why do people go so ebay crazy over something that is going to wear out in a few months?

Yes, I do run in them. One of the models they use is the 860 which I've been running in even before the runDisney versions.

I've tried several times to get away from the 860 and go to a lighter shoe but my pronation has not cooperated and it's always back to the 860.

Plus, I just love those red Sorcerer Mickey shoes. They make me feel like a kid....it's like I'm 45 again! ;)

All costumes are ready, one more long run to go... let the countdown begin!!! Every day I tell DH how many days (total) and work days we have until Cali! I can't help but get excited.

I am definitely not properly excited for this trip yet. Between the back injury recovery, this cold of mine that I'm trying to fight off (and that I'm REALLY hoping is not actually a sinus infection), the fact that 3 of my 4 weekends this month are taken over by my cousin's wedding (yesterday - bridal shower at my house for 60 - !! - guests :faint:...so all day Saturday was prep for that, this coming weekend - bachelorette activities, and wedding 8/28), finishing kitchen renovation (worth it - glad to finally start cooking in it again after a month of takeout + cruise food, and that everything is cleaned up and put away)...

...I've just been exhausted.

On the bright side, the return to running is continuing to go well (knock on wood), and Galloway's peak week for Dumbo training is the one weekend I don't have a wedding-related activity, so woohoo for that. :thumbsup2

Wow! You have been super busy! I think that's why I am in such anticipation...not much happening around here. I work at a University and the students haven't returned, so work is slower than normal and we did all of our other travelling earlier in the summer. I am ready to get away!

Glad you are getting back in the running game...and go away cold...you weren't invited!

I know! I feel like I need a vacation...which is ridiculous since I just cruised.

Me too! It's a relief...and I figured out after a morning of feeling foggy and like I couldn't focus or concentrate on anything that maybe it would be worth it try a decongestant - 1.5 hours later I feel like a new person. Sinus pressure around my eyes almost gone! So I am in much better spirits than I was when I wrote that other post. :) Yeehaw.

I did my 8 miles this weekend. That is the furthest I've ever trained! On one hand, I am very proud of myself. On the other hand ... that's only 2/3 of the required distance that is now 27 days away!

I think I mentioned that I am going to D23 this weekend, so I PLAN on exhausting myself there and then running 9 miles when it's over on Sunday. HAHAHA. Let's see if that actually happens.

I did my long run Saturday morning. It was supposed to be 18km (11.23 miles), but that's basically the hardest distance for me. I'm so close to the 21.1km (13.1 miles) so i usually just go the distance... and I did. 1:59. I'm pleased with that time, especially since I had to do it alone with DH being injured, he usually gives me a bit of motivation if I'm slowing down, or to keep running up the hill etc.

I did a 5km this evening and it was a tough slog. It's hot and i ate a bunch of junk.

I finally got the corral/bib number thing figured out. We're in A, I think my proof of time was 1:54, so technically I should be one of the slower runners in the group. I'm kind of relieved to not feel pressure to make my way to the front of the corral of 1000 people!

I'm still not sure what I will wear for race day. I'm definitely not a skirt person. I'll probably pack a pair of short and some capri-length tights and make a game day decision. I'm still worried about sunglasses. It's going to be too dark to start with them but i'll want them by the end. hmmmmm.............

Practice running with them on your head. I've been doing that and I'm confident now that I will be able to keep them on my head at the start and then they will be easily accessible once that sun comes out!

This is what I do! But I carry mine on my head most of the time, running or not. HA.

Congrats on the long run! Have fun this weekend, I saw all the banners out this past weekend and was jealous of everybody who gets to go.

I forgot who was asking a month or so back about the ornaments and getting them personalized. I saw a lady in World of Disney in DTD doing them and asked her about it. She said that they are doing it right now but on the weekends and in WoD only. She was at a table in the middle room of the store.

That was me! Thank you for asking! :yay:

@Keels your costume is adorable!

Sigh. In Vancouver right now, it has beautiful weather and great scenery and yet I had to run on the darned treadmill at the hotel rather than outside. Mostly because came back too late to hotel and hence too late to walk to the park and start the run before it got dark. On the upside I did run 10 miles at pretty good pace and felt super - much better than my Saturday run - carbs are very important.

For anyone whose done this race before do you know if Harbor Blvd from the downtown disney area to Katella Ave is shut down prior to the half marathon? In the Race Brochure it has that section of road striped red and white. I'm stay off of Harbor and trying to find somewhere to get a 3 mile run in before the race. My Hotel doesn't have a treadmill.

10 miles is a long way to go on a treadmill. Hopefully you had something more interesting to look at than a wall.

Y'all better leave your selfie sticks at home...this little blurb is at the end of the waivers:

"NO 'SELFIE 'STICKS/SIMILAR DEVICES: The Disney Companies strive to provide great experiences for its Guests and Cast, Event Volunteers and Event Participants. However selfie sticks and similar devices have become a growing safety concern and an impediment to the smooth operation and overall management of the Event. As such, such devices, including without limitation, selfie sticks, are strictly prohibited from the Event, including without limitation, the Event course, Event staging areas, and the Event overall."

I mean...DUH!!!
