Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

So, NB did special Tink shoes this year. Since they didn't come out with a bunch of styles at once like in years past, do you think there will be a Special DL shoe or Dumbo shoe?

At some point they announced that they were coming out with different styles for each race weekend, so I think we'll see a new style for DLH weekend plus whatever is left over from the races that have already been held this year. :confused3

Ooo, yay! Depending on the style (and fit-I'm not typically a NB wearer), I may be making a tough decision between a Dooney and the NB Shoes.

What does everybody still have left to plan?

Other than dining reservations, the only thing I have left to do is buy park tickets for some members of our group. I missed the boat on GET doing the buy 4, get the 5th day free deal, so I'm holding out hope they do that again.

I also think we've settled on our dining plans - brunch at Steakhouse 55 after the race and celebratory dinner at Carthay Circle that night.

Dining..... I'm more curious to know whether or not trader sam's will have the nautilus drink that they have at trader sams grotto. I hold out hope because all the other drinks look the same from the original trader sam's.

Yeah, I'll have to do some research. I haven't been super impressed with what they've been coming out with this year for the Disney NB shoes (I thought the Tink ones were okay, but I CANNOT stand Tink) and I don't normally wear NB shoes, either. I did buy a pair of the Minnie shoes in 2013 - I was at the W&D expo and had had a long travel day, and they were just THERE...so treat yoself - purely to walk around in, not for running. E ended up selling them on eBay because they were SO not the right shoes for me, like, I thought I'd injure myself just walking around the grocery store in them (took a huge loss selling them because I put them up as an auction and didn't price-gauge, but I digress).

All that to say, overall I'm leaning toward the Dooney right now. ;)

Let's see...hotel and flights booked for me. I have my tickets. I think just dining and transportation from the airport to the hotel are what I have left. :)

Normally when Mr. Ariel484 and I travel to WDW we have all of my dining picked out and reserved ASAP. But this trip is with my BFFs and they are much more casual when it comes to the dining, so I may need to take the reins on this one. I know we agreed on Naples the night before the half and some sort of brunch afterward. :confused3

I wanna say that one is unique to WDW's Trader Sam's but I'm not entirely sure.

There will be much time spent in Trader Sam's that weekend...oh yes. ::yes::

Still need a rental car at LAX. Good chance we will not make it to the parks this trip. Angels game possibly Friday night, Santa Monica and beach Saturday, and Sunday is still up in the air. DW really wants to go to Hollywood.........

Still deciding if we are going to have "themed" outfits or just go as ourselves? Anyone have their outfits decided yet? Suggestions?

She also is interested in the D & B purses with DL design, when will those be available to purchase?

Unless the shoes are super awesome, I'll probably lean towards the Dooney. I can get a lot more use for my money! Because it will last "forever".

Dining and transportation for us too! I think I'll work on some Dining research this afternoon. I work at a University and all the students are gone for the summer...YAY!!

And, Mr. Ariel484...hilarious...love it!

No outfits picked for us yet - BFFs want to wait and see what the theme is for the races.

Right now I think I'll be taking the DLR Express to/from LAX ($38 RT with coupon code AOC).

But let's talk Dooneys!!

Which design are you asking about? The (presumed) race-specific design or the 60th anniversary designs?

Hopefully they will HAVE a race-specific design, and hopefully there will be a pre-order option. If they have that, it'll pop up on the registration page and you'd order from Active.com, just like signing up for the races. This guarantees you a bag and you can pick from a few options at bag pick-up so you can get preferred placement. Supposedly you can then return said bag and re-buy it to get the Active.com fees refunded, and to apply an AP/Disney Visa discount. I've never done this before so I can't say for certain it works.

For the 60th bags, they are available starting this month sometime, so I'm hoping to find one at some point in the parks/Downtown Disney. :)

:teeth:

I could see myself passing on the race Dooney...if it's similar to the one they had in January I definitely will (normally the WDW Marathon weekend ones are very similar to the DLH ones). The 60th anniversary one is growing on me.

i need to start bugging BFFs about dining. I know we can reserve 60 days out...it'll come up quickly!!

I feel like I need to see the 60th Anniversary one in person...then I can decide. I'm also doing W&D so if not completely impressed, may hold off. I want all of the merchandise! :rotfl2:

I'm very much on the "Just wing it" train for dining at Disneyland. There is SO much good counter service that it doesn't make sense to me to "waste time" at a TS, unlike at WDW.

We're doing TS reservations for Sunday only - that's the only day that all eight of us will be together in the parks, and I think it will just make it easier to eat all together if we have a reservation. And even then, the rest of our group just knows about brunch - dinner at Carthay is a surprise treat from my Mom.

I'm still deciding on transportation too. I think at this point, all things being the same, I'm just going to take a cab or an Uber from the airport.
My flight gets in at like 8 am, so I think that will be the fastest way for me to get to the hotel, drop my stuff and then hit the Expo. Then I'll either hotel bar-hop until the Anniversary party starts or go into DCA and ride RSRs and ToT until 4.

We're doing the Angels-Rangers on Saturday night.

As far as outfits go - I'm still planning on the whole Mouseketeer thing. Husband is just wearing running clothes. I think M is leaning towards making a shirt that says "Will Run For Mickey Bars" (those are her favorite!).

Mouseketeer outfits are always a solid choice. Hopefully you will carry a DoleWhip with you so we can recognize you.
Great idea for a shirt...........Mickey Bars I am familiar with. Yum.

We are leaning towards "Forced Family Fun" shirts for our 4th of July race. 5 or 6 family members doing it. Saw those in Va Beach this year and going to "borrow" that idea.

I know what you mean. When I first saw the pictures I wasn't impressed - some of the bags in the stock photos have SO MUCH white space on them. But I feel like if I find one with the *perfect* placement I'll get it.

I've definitely heard that about the counter service. I'm a little torn because dining is a big part of any trip for me (I just like the whole experience) but on the other hand, it is a shorter trip...we'll see!

After getting spoiled by the Disney Magical Express at WDW, having to arrange transportation seems like such a chore. Focused on rental car only because of the after race sites we plan on seeing.

I think, to borrow your creative moniker, "Mrs. Slogger," saw the Star Wars and the 60th Anniv D & B selections and said something like
"oooh, I really like those. I might have to get one or two." :rotfl2:

Anyone have their outfits decided yet? ?

Yep, mine are done! Just normal running gear (shirt/skort) but with quotes on the back I painted on with fabric paint that doesn't dry heavy, little hats (that I'm hoping I can actually run in & need to test). Dumbo for the 10k and Poppins for the half. I don't care about fitting the theme, Dumbo does fit I guess, but he is my favorite. I love seeing the elaborate costumes but can't running in anything too crazy.

Need to do airport transportation, sign up for volunteering when that opens, and make dining reservations when they open. Also think I might do the Walking in Walt's Footsteps tour or whatever is called. Anyone know how far out you can make those?

Run this by you guys - was thinking about doing the character breakfast at Plaza Inn on Saturday after the 10k. Would cool do it before park opening. Should have time to do the race, hotel to clean up, and make it there by say 8:30 right? Race starts t 5:30 if I remember correctly.
