Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

Thank you all so far for your tips. I dragged my but out of bed and got a 5k under my belt so at least I'm keeping the legs active at this point. I think I'm probably going to try to do 30 seconds walking: 30 seconds jog/running, or 1 minute:1 minute at least until I see how its going. Ideally I'd like to be able to get back to 1 mile jog, .5 mile walk but we will see how I feel. I am relatively confident I won't get swept, but if nothing else at least it is an experience right? One more question for anyone that may be able to answer. As I said before the most I have ever run was a 10k competitively and I never found myself needing water until the end. With this being so much longer is it necessary for me to bring water with me during the race? I know there are water stops. Have you found that they are placed well or have you discovered that you typically need more?
Every Disney race except the 2013 marathon (85 degrees and humid) - I have felt like Disney has enough water stops. I have never carried my own. It's personal preference really. I just hate carrying stuff! I do take something to drink at every stop.

I usually watch WESH 2 news when in Orlando, over the last two days I added their weather forecasts to all the other ones I've been checking compulsively and they've had the most consistently positive forecast of all the other ones.Right now they have Thu 60/42 0% chance of rain, Fri 69/46 10% chance of rain,Sat 72/44 0% chance of rain and Sun 74/56 10% chance of rain.I'm going to stop looking at the other ones and only focus on their forecast.
I like the look of that!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks, Mr. Noodle! I hope that's true!

Well apparently, it's not just my taper madness - I came down with a cold yesterday. :headache: I was being so careful! Maybe my insomnia the past few weeks caught up to me. I'm drinking tons of water and hot tea, taking zinc, breathing over a bowl of steam...Unfortunately the getting-more-rest part still isn't happening very well.

Is anyone else nervous about their costume in the rain? Mine aren't that elaborate or anything, but they will both look like a total mess if wet. Do I need to rethink my costumes again?! Probably not, just one more thing to be anxious about. ;)

I like the forecast you linked but the Weather Channel forecast for Disney World still shows 80 and chance of t-storms on Sunday. That sounds like humid and warm to me. Going to have fun regardless.

Does anyone know what the spacing is for water stops?
Most races it is every 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 miles. Is that how Disney does it?

The guide says there are 19 water stops. So about every 1 1/2 miles.

If you go to the runDisney web site and open the course map for the race, you will see the location of every water stop, food stop, and medical aid station.

I thought last year was hotter than 2013.

2014 wasn't cold, but I don't remember it having all the heat warnings like 2013.

Frankly I think my brain blocks out a lot of the prior marathons and halfs that I've done. It's likely the only reason I sign up to do them again.

Last year had perfect temperatures, lows in the low 50's,highs in the 67-70 range.

This year doesn't look too bad either, not too much sun and the heat seems to be holding off until the last day. For some of the faster runners, they should be done and showered before it really warms up.

Just when I thought I had literally turned over every stone in planning (which energizes me but leaves a blank stare on my DW's face) - I noticed on wdwmagic that the "Epcot beam" will run from 3am to 1pm and then 7pm to close. typo? One reason I booked the Poly was for the convenience of family "sleeping in" to go out and watch us and then go over and back between TTC and Epcot. Surely they wouldn't stop running the monorail during the full marathon?

The monorail schedule that I've seen shows the 1-7 closure on the epcot line on Sunday. It's weird because there isn't a closure on Saturday. If the last runner crosses the start line at 6:30 that would put the closure of the half around 10:00 so people could easily be done using the monorail for transport before a 1pm closure. On the other hand that would mean the full wouldn't be done till after 1:30. It wouldn't be unreasonable to think people will be needing post race transport till 2:30 or later. It seems like it would have made more sense to swap the closures.

This is about the monorail that goes from TTC to Epcot right? How could that be closed between 1pm - 7pm regardless of any race going on. I've never heard of them shutting down the monorail while a park is open and it seems that would be a bad decision any day, especially for six hours. The page about the monorails on the primary disneyworld.com site says "The Walt Disney World Monorail System operates from one hour prior to earliest park opening until one hour after latest park closing." which would include 1pm - 7pm. I would assume that the only difference for marathon weekend would be that it opens earlier than the standard one hour prior to park opening.

I was referring to the monorail route between TTC and Epcot. I don't think I can say where I saw the schedule, but it is a source that I consider accurate.

Not a fan. I guess I won't be heartbroken since I won't make it in before 11 on Friday! Now I get $150 to spend on some other merchandise I was eying :thumbsup2
Not $150...New Balance tweeted they are retailing for $185 per pair.
