Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

I saw that. They are so similar to the regular 990's I don't see them being worth it.
Exactly. I certainly don't judge anyone for wanting to buy them - do what you want with your money - but I'm not impressed that they didn't make many changes to the regular 990s (which sell for $154.99) and then went ahead and marked up the runDisney version of the 990s by 20%. :confused3

This is about the monorail that goes from TTC to Epcot right? How could that be closed between 1pm - 7pm regardless of any race going on. I've never heard of them shutting down the monorail while a park is open and it seems that would be a bad decision any day, especially for six hours. The page about the monorails on the primary disneyworld.com site says "The Walt Disney World Monorail System operates from one hour prior to earliest park opening until one hour after latest park closing." which would include 1pm - 7pm. I would assume that the only difference for marathon weekend would be that it opens earlier than the standard one hour prior to park opening.

They have intermittently using a revised/shorter schedule on the monorail lines since last spring/summer. They are doing some sort of refurb/automation install. I'm sure they took the busy holiday season off from doing it and need to get back to work on it, but I'm a little surprised that they are going to be doing it this weekend.

This isn't my source for the monorail schedule, but I believe this is what AladdinToMy4YO was referencing.

Well, that really stinks. I guess I'll be taking the bus back to the Poly after the race along with my DW, DD, and DS. That's not what I had in mind for sure and really takes away one of the big perks that made me choose the Poly for this trip.

I'm at the contemporary. It will be nice in the morning to not have to deal with buses, but I am bummed about the situation in the afternoon.

That would be crummy. I hope to be back on the monorail by 11am after the full, but wanted to head back to Epcot around 5:30pm. We're staying at GF now, but will transfer to Poly in the morning. I'll ask the CMs here and there about it.

I looked but couldn't find an exact answer, so

Does anyone know if the resort food courts will have the drink area open where you can fill your refillable mugs early on Sunday? Staying at POP.

Or where and how would be the easiest to get coffee that morning?

Thanks!

When I stayed at POP for the Princess Half weekend, they had a free coffee station in the lobby, right by the doors out to the buses. I'm not sure if they do that for all the race weekends, but that was the only place at the resort to get coffee at that hour!

They also sell coffee at the staging area at Epcot, but it was nice to be able to drink it on the bus ride over.

Hope that helps!

Thanks! Hoping it's in the lobby as I want it as early as I can get it, ha! I'll plan on bringing some cash to the staging area tgo just in case it's not at pop. thank you

I can't stand the coffee at Disney, so I just bring my own Starbucks Via single serves...just use the in-room coffee maker to get your hot water (also good for making instant oatmeal, btw). The Via coffee is really good, not at all like the instant coffee I remember from years ago.

silly question.....but what do you do with your refillable mug once you start running? Is it worth tossing or should I keep it to show off to my friends and family?

I wish that were an option at POP! It's a Value resort though, so no coffee makers in the rooms!

Yep no coffee pot at pop. I'll need the mug the rest the trip so no not throwing it away! I don't mind disney coffee especially since it's not Nescafé anymore! But sounds like the drink stations aren't open anyway so no mug needed that morning

Arrived at Pop this afternoon. Weather is perfect! It was snowing when the plane took off so this is a welcome change.

Starting the Racecation off with some mini-golf. Should probably be resting my legs, especially the bad one, but I'm a fool.

In past years at both POP and POFQ, the food court was open early (just the building, not the actual food court) and coffee was available.

The coffee machines weren't RFID, so you didn't need a refillable mug. Full disclaimer: I realize this is stealing.

If I went the refillable mug route, there is no way I would carry it during the race. Bring a Styrofoam or paper cup, fill the mug, then transfer it to the throwaway. Of course, this means you need to allow time to take the mug back to the room.

There are 9 of us in our group and we are all staying at POP too. 3 of the group drove up there this morning. The other is driving up tomorrow. I am driving up Thursday morning. So looking forward to this weekend.

If the building is open, there's coffee, but no one to sell it to you, sounds like they are providing it for the runners! :)

Is there a microwave in the food court? Or hot water? Specifically at all star movies if anyone knows. I have some oatmeal cups I was hoping to eat before the race, I forgot there wasn't a coffee maker at the values!

I stayed at POP last year and will be again this year.I remember the food court opening at 3am,obviously no hot dishes but they had the quick serve grab n go area open with croissants, bagels, bananas and everything else in the cooler area along with the soda station so yes there was a cashier to take payment. What they meant is that the coffee is in the soda station area, you're supposed to pay for the coffee, get the cup and then you go fill it up.

When we ran the Princess half marathon last Feb, we stayed at Pop Century. They had large coffee urns set up on a table in the lobby for the runners. It was free. There was also an urn with just hot water. We got coffee and I got hot water to use in my instant oatmeal.
