Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

I think I might be the oddball here....I'm also in freezing cold New England, and I would be content with a warm and humid race day...training in our brutal summers doesn't bother me at all.

Brutal summers in New England? Surely you jest. My summers in Houston don't even compare to the ones over here. When the low is never below 95 and the high is 115 and the humidity is over 80%, that's a brutal summer. :)

However, for everyone else's sake, I'm hoping for more like 50-60 at the start...and definitely no rain/sleet! If there is another Disney on ice like in 2010, there is a fair chance I will refuse to leave my hotel room! Lol

That was my wife. She woke up, turned on the weather, saw the huge patch of green heading toward Orlando, and went back to sleep. I hope this year is 40-45 at the start and 55 at the finish, with a nice warming up before DATW on Monday.

Ok, our summers are nothing compared to that...and this past summer was surprisingly mild but last year it was extremely hot and well over 80% humidity for most of the summer. Maybe I should move to Texas, all that warmth sounds wonderful...you will never find me complaining about the heat!

Good call on the weather for Monday, we will also be attempting that and will need all the help we can get, haha!

Helpful hint: start at Canada. Starting with tequila at Mexico followed next by Aquavit at Norway makes it a much harder challenge.

I'm in south Louisiana... :crazy2:

Training during the summer was brutal, but luckily we've had a nice fall and some decent weather on the weekends. Still a little warm to be called ideal though. Like you, I'm hoping for low forties at the start for both the half and full. (running Dopey). But regardless of the weather, I'm running. I paid too much; I'm getting those 6 medals rain, sleet, snow, or even a 100-year heat wave. :cool2:

Slightly unrelated but I just got the email confirmation that I got into the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler in DC in April! After deciding to do these two full marathons less than 2 months apart, I am almost relieved at the thought of training for such a "short" distance! :rotfl2:

That being said, I haven't run at all since my first full 3 weeks ago. I really need to get out and at least get some low mileage runs in to test out my knee and get back into the swing of things. I had kind of made up my mind after Philly that I don't want to defer to 2016 (I struggled to train for Philly through October/November because of work. Peak mileage in November/December would be even worse), so if I get swept, I get swept. I think that I'm going to take a run a mile/walk a mile approach to WDW and just try for the best. I don't want to have to rent a scooter to get around the parks for the rest of the trip. ::yes::

I am in the same boat! I have run very little in the three weeks since Philly due to a knee issue. I am trying to ease back into some low mileage but the weather has not been helping :/

I'm hoping for the same weather! I want to be able to wear the clothes I already have picked out without having to worry about adding tights and long sleeves. I also want to be able to wear the official long sleeve race shirts after each race, so not too hot either :)

I was fine in whatever the temp was for the 2014 marathon. I think it started in the 60s?

You've got your clothes picked out already? Wow! I'm not sure if I should be impressed or scared. ;)

*Ahem*...RnbwSktles is not the only one with clothes picked out already...:rotfl2:

We went outlet shopping yesterday so I have a pretty good idea what my 4 outfits will be. I run with a group and about 10 of us are doing the dopey challenge. We're getting shirts made for the full and dressing up as characters for the 5k. I don't know the exact shorts, socks, shirts for everything but I have a good idea of what I'll be bringing. We have a washer/dryer in our room at OKW, so I don't think I really need to pick out exact garments for specific races beyond the 5k and the shirt for the full.

I pretty much know what I am wearing as long as the temps are 40 or above at race start. Those are the clothes I have been training in. I run in shorts and short sleeves so long as the temp is not below 40 and it is not windy.

Should some really cold weather decide to make an appearance, I will need to bring my cold weather running gear. I have already had a couple runs in temps below 20 this fall, so I have what I need if necessary.

I have an idea of what I'm wearing for clothes but nothing official yet. Which leads me to shoes... What is everyone planning to wear on your feet? Do you have different pairs for different runs?
I'm thinking my newton Aha for the half and brooks ghost or mizuno wave rider for the full. Still in the fence for the full.

Same here. I'm also bringing one of those disposable plastic rain poncho's to help keep me warm/dry in the corral just in case it's needed.

I'm doing Goofy, so I'm planning on bringing two different pairs. I am currently breaking in the second pair now. I will run with the newer pair for the marathon.

For those running multiple races, two or more pairs is probably a good idea in case it rains during one of the early races, and your shoes do not have time to dry out before that next race.

Addidas Boost and Saucony Ride7 are the two I'll be running in. I prefer the Boost, but the Ride have more cushion and my feet don't hurt nearly as much after the long runs. I have Brooks Launch as backups.

Okay, so it is possible* that I was lying by omission before...I have almost everything laid out in 4 separate piles, ready to be packed. Just need to make sure I remember everything and I don't get stuck doing last-minute laundry the night before I fly down to WDW...OCD planner much? :rotfl2:

I have 2 brand new pairs of Brooks Adrenalines sitting in my closet that I'm planning on starting to break in after this week (my peak week in training) - 1 pair for the 5K/half marathon, the other pair for the 10K/marathon. :)

Not necessarily running related but has anyone purchased the runDisney Dooney clutch (not sure of the exact name-maybe called the wristlet?) I was considering a splurge but was wondering what I can fit in it. IPhone with an Otterbox? Money? Cards?

It would be nice if they'd post measurements, right?? :rolleyes1

It looks pretty similar to this one so hopefully it'll give you an idea:

4"H x 6"W x 1"D

Otterbox plus your other stuff may be pushing it with the 1" diameter, unless you get creative with how you shove everything in there. :confused3

I'm bringing two pairs of the same shoe, my trusty Asics Kayano. If I wear going to race any of the races other than the full, I'd wear my racing flats because they are much lighter and better for chasing a PR. Since I'm only worried about my time in the full this year, I'm keeping it simple and using one pair for 5k and half, and another for 10k and full.
