Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

Yeah, maybe I...jumped really high at that part? :p I know there's an incline as you're heading to the International Gateway but other than that, I got nothing. :confused3

I think I have it figured out, the Tower of Terror jammed our GPS's and made mine register a drop and yours a climb.

I'm in a similar boat - this will be my first half marathon, and I've been working on getting in shape over the last several months. For what it's worth, I spoke with a co-worker who is a more experienced runner (he also does triathlons) and he advised that as long as you can get in a good 11-12 mile training session before the race, you'll be good. I just did 11 miles this past weekend, and while I'm hoping to get in a 12-13 mile run-walk session around Christmas, I'm also focused on just maintaining my regular training schedule and keeping myself healthy. Long story short, my novice opinion is I agree with the prior posts, and I wish you the best of luck!!

These rundisney events are a great motivator for getting in shape. I appreciate your feedback and wish you lots of luck too!!! Thanks.:)

No, no, no! Wear your Blerch shirt. We're running with a Blerch theme and you'll fit right in with us. Just bring :cake: Plus, as they say, nothing new on race day. :)

Oh if only I'd bought a shirt. All I have is the half zip jacket which was cut ridiculously small and I didn't notice until after the event was over (and that poor man died and it seemed heartless to whine about a jacket to Inman). It's not comfy to hang around the house in, let alone run in....sigh.

And of course I don't think I'm doing the event you're Blerching in anyway. :) mmm, cake.... (turns out cake does absolutely nothing good for my running)

You can say that again! It's been 85 pounds for me. :)

All because I wanted to go back to Disney, and the Disney Marathon seemed like the best way of convincing my skeptical wife to let us go back to Disney after our 2013 August trip. She agreed (laughing inwardly, I'm pretty sure) on the caveat that I actually ran the marathon. Little did she know just how motivating a trip do Disney can be for me.

But...but...it's so cute! And it's the Minnie themed race!

OK, John... I remember reading about your McFlurry stop way before I considered doing the full and I said I would do it if I ever ran the full. So, how much time do you think you add on, and are you an Everest rider as well? I really want to try to ride EE if I'm there when it's open and I'm thinking a McFlurry might save me if I'm queasy after, but is that TOO much time off course? I'm starting in J, and I should be @ 10:30-11 min/mi not looking to finish in any certain time, although I would be stoked to be under 5:30. Your thoughts?

That's so awesome! I love hearing the stories of how Disney (or any) race goals inspire people and their amazing accomplishments they make along the way :thumbsup2 I'm proud of you guys!

Wow! That is an incredible achievement. There is no better gift you could have given to your daughters. Your family must be so proud of you. Congratulations and good luck on the big day. :yay:

I have a similar story... I was a consistent but low-level (10-12 miles/week) runner and at least 40 lbs overweight (223 for a guy who should be 175). We vacationed at WDW in 2011 and although I love Disney, I couldn't really justify the expense of going back. Last January, I told my wife I'd use the Disney Marathon as a motivator and if I could lose 20 lbs by April, I'd sign up for it. I was 202 on April 1, so I went for it. Now the whole crew (wife and 3 adult kids) are coming down and making a vacation of it. Mission accomplished!

Wasn't there a discount for pre-ordering photos through Marathonfoto last year? I want to do it for Dopey, but haven't seen anything yet.

I have 2 brand new pairs of Brooks Adrenalines sitting in my closet that I'm planning on starting to break in after this week (my peak week in training) - 1 pair for the 5K/half marathon, the other pair for the 10K/marathon. :)

Me too! I picked up two pair of Adrenaline 14s when they were on clearance last week. One pair for the 5k/Half and the other pair for the 10k/Full. I think I'll start breaking them in next week...maybe. Ugh... I just don't want to get them wet!

PS I also have my running outfits all laid out in the guest room. Lol.

I remember that option previously, too. At last year's WDW Marathon Weekend expo, and at other runDisney event expos, the discount has been available, at the Marathonfoto booth.

Might pop up in the virtual goody bag??
ETA: Nevermind, not there.

YEP!! That's where mind are, in a spare bedroom! :goodvibes

Grats! :thumbsup2

It's funny how it works. It's all about finding what motivates you. Everyone has different sources of motivation.

I still remember starting to walk back in January (I am... was?... a lifelong couch potato), imagining myself running through Disney. It's silly, but it made it fun. It's what got me out the door and through those first walks/jogs.

Then I actually started liking being outside. Every walk/jog/run was an achievement. Going out was in itself a motivator. It made me noticeably happier. And every time I was able to go a little bit further, a tiny bit faster. Now, 755 miles later, I'm on my third pair of running shoes (using Dec to break them in!) getting ready to run a marathon officially. :woohoo:

I think this is the first "New Year's Resolution" I've actually ever accomplished! :lmao:

Find what motivates you, use it to fuel your goals. That's what I've learned from this experience. Took me a dang long time to figure that one out. :goodvibes

I'm bringing a 3rd pair of running shoes in case we get rain or something happens during the first two races.

Adidas Boost - 5k/half (might be racing the half)
Saucony Ride7 - 10k/full (Much more support/cushion to help with sore feet/knees)
Brooks Launch - Backup (Middle of the ground shoe that I could use for any race. They've been a great trainer but have gotten a lot of wear.)

10 to 15 minutes extra time for a McFlurry detour. My corral is H, but due to knee issues I most likely will start farther back so I am not in the way of others. Your expected pace should not pose a problem making both stops. I enjoy EE immensely, but not during the Marathon.

My preference is a M&M McFlurry so if it melts I still have the hard chocolate Ms to munch on.

Have a great time!!!:thumbsup2
