Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

Thanks for the timeline that you experienced as that does give me an idea of what to expect. I'm typically someone that is early for everything and goes nutso if I'm running late at all so in all likelihood I won't be able to sleep in anyway. I'm just trying to see if I can find a good balance between sleeping in a little, having plenty of time to get there, and not waiting for 1+ hours before it's time to run.
Oh, totally. And I hope I didn't come off sounding like a jerk in my response. :)

With so many thousands of people to move, and the road closures, getting the parks ready to open, the weather conditions, etc....these ungodly early wake-ups are just a part of Disney races. :faint:
I think from everyone's responses I have a better idea of what to expect and what I can do on race day. Getting to see those pictures of the race has me excited and I get this feeling that running these races (I'm doing Goofy) will be more exciting and more emotional than the 1/2 marathon I ran previously. Just running through the parks, the sheer volume of other runners, and all the other excitement that go into a Disney event almost gives me goose bumps right now. I don't know if my DW thinks I'm crazy for doing this or not but I think it will be an experience to remember.
Yes, it will. I don't think you will regret it (well, maybe at mile 20 of the marathon, but once you're done you'll be glad you did it!). :)

SunDial, Thanks for those pictures. I've never spectated at a race, so it's neat to see how it all looks from the "outside". Definitely got me excited looking at them!!!

I'm SO glad they have pre-orders! Not sure why they didn't for Avengers?!

Happy shopping!!! :)

sundial, thank you for those pictures and the words that went along with them! Even though I ran the Half I was really really sick and I have a hard time noticing things around me anyway, when at Disney. Those were really very helpful.

Exciting I'm sure my mom will want one I'll have to show her. Any idea on when shoes will be released for 2015?

Silly question.

Can you "spectate" for the 5K? I know that's not a word, LOL. You get my meaning. :)

I was talking about going with DH and DS to their 5K (so jealous that they are doing it and I chose not to) and it suddenly hit me that I don't remember if people are allowed in.

Thanks in advance for info!

Disney has the bleachers available at the Finish Line area and the path leading from out of Epcot to the Finish Line is open for spectators - if that's what you're asking.

If you're asking about Disney letting spectators enter Epcot then, no, I don't believe they open Epcot for the 5K before normal park hours.

This is the first time I've considered ordering one, but I can't get over the prices! I am not a designer purse kinda girl and I'm not sure I want to start now. I bought one of the Vera bags and that was pricey enough for me!

I remember seeing spectators during the first mile of the 5K (which goes through Epcot parking lots - how exciting!) in 2013, and in the starting area/finish line bleachers. :) No spectators in Epcot.

I was asking for any info, so you both answered perfectly! Thank you!

So I'll be sittin' in the bleachers. Exciting. :)

18 miles in the books tonight! That's the most I've ever run! While I'm pleased and proud of myself for getting it done, I'm pretty intimidated by the thought of adding 8 more miles to that on marathon day.

Well, time to hit the showers! Have a great weekend everyone!

That's fantastic! Congrats!

I find running the Disney full easier than going 17-18 miles on my own, which is about the most I ever ran before doing the full. You're running the Disney marathon with 25,000 others with on course entertainment, fireworks at the start, cheering spectators and knowing you have a medal at the end, running the full is a breeze, those 18 miles you did tonight was the real test.I will however be running Goofy for the first time so I have no idea what will happen with that,I know I'm good to go only doing the full,I plan to take the half real easy but it will surely be an experience!!

I just remembered that I wanted to volunteer, so I went to the link. :) Signed up to volunteer at the 5K, and waitlisted for the marathon. I think I've lost my mind, wanting to work at the marathon, because I'll have run the Half the day before, and if I get a job that's just standing I'm going to be crying the whole time. But...it'll be cool, too. I sort of left it up to the universe; if I'm scheduled for it then it was meant to be. If not, then I'll sleep in a bit more and enjoy Universal with hubby and son.

Also booked a room at AOA for the 9th so I can wake up and take the transportation to the Half. We are booked over at Universal the whole time, but I don't relish the idea of making everyone get up early enough for me to get there. And as of today (I'm editing this on Sunday) I got the 10th, too at AOA, so I don't have to wait a million years for a shower. DS has his Mile at 12:30. I figure if I managed to get through the starting line at 6:30 and it takes me my usual 2 hours and 59 minutes I'll be done at 9:30, and there's a possibility I can run back to the room to shower before we head off for that. Or just collapse. One of the two. Either way, DH was pretty psyched to get those days. And thanks to a quirk in late-booking, it costs us less to have the Royal Pacific room the whole time plus the 2 nights of AOA, rather than moving from Royal Pacific. Crazy. Totally OK, though, because if not having to truly move makes it all easier on us, then that's good!

So, as of this afternoon, I am officially a marathoner!

The issue I've been having with my knee/hip came back with a vengeance today and I wasn't able to run the last 5 miles or so. I couldn't even maintain a 16 minute mile walking pace. I might have just spent the last 2 miles just crying because I wanted to just be done lol. But I did it! I am worried that based on how my leg feels now that I am actually injured and not just sore. I will have to go to the doctor this week. I am a little nervous now for disney but I would certainly take it much, much easier there than I did today.

I guess this is part of training for the longer races for most people. I've been doing good with my training and this weekend I ran 10 miles on Friday followed by 23 on Saturday as part of my goofy training. I finished all of it without walking and did a better time than I expected which is good. The bad is that my right knee is now hurting and I have trouble going up and down stairs. Based on all my reading it sounds like I may have "runner's knee" and may need to take some time off from training. I don't really like the idea of that but I also want to make sure I don't get a more serious injury and can complete the goofy challenge in January. Has anyone else had this knee pain, a pain basically under the kneecap it seems, from running and have good advice on how to recover and miss minimal training?

I have Runner's Knee issues, although that can mean many things. Building up your butt muscles and hamstrings & quads help as well as stretching & rolling them out. Google Runner's knee strengthening and stretching for some exercises. Taking a couple days off will help with immediate pain but personally the strengthening/stretching is what has helped me without taking any time off. Most likely it's not the knee that's injured but weak muscles and overused muscles around it that cause the pain in the knee.

Anyone have experience doing goofy without much in terms of back to back training runs?

I had a couple in my training schedule, but have missed/shortened several due to injury. I did 16 yesterday and am supposed to do 8 today, but my foot is hurting in an injury way and I'm nervous about aggravating it. I do run back to back days during the week at short distances, so I have that experience. Am I screwed if I don't get the back to backs in?
