Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

People still think I'm nutty. Or dopey for even considering the dopey. But three 1/2's last year so I think I can, I think I can.

Official Run Disney Training Guides start July 1st. :thumbsup2

Thanks for these encouraging words! I'm sure hoping you're right! I've done 6 half marathons now, but the thought of doing double that distance is mind boggling! But then again, I remember (not too long ago) when the thought of doing 13.1 seemed absolutely impossible! ;)
You've got this!! :yay: For me the training is hard, but it's so worth it on race day. Eyes on the prize!!

Hi Everyone I am just joining in. I am all signed up for the Marathon (It will be my fifth) and I am so excited because my Husband is going to be running with me too!!! This will be his first marathon and I am so excited to experience it with him!

Does anyone else train or run the races with there spouse and have any advice? I am kinda nervous about it. I wanted to run for a time goal but I a putting that aside so we can do it together. He says he'll just keep up with me but I guess we'll see . . .

I can't wait to get back to running tomorrow. My youngest son will be 6 weeks old! Hope the training is going well for all of you.

My girlfriends and I decided to start the training program for the full a few weeks early in case we need to miss a few weeks because life happens. First training run yesterday was great! I haven't run since mid April and my legs are a little sore today but a good sore.
I'm so excited for January!

Welcome! :) You probably know this, but since you're starting early, make sure that you do your peak runs at the correct time. The training plans are designed so that you peak at a certain time and taper for a certain amount of time before the race...you don't want to peak too early!

Fun that you're running with your friends!!!

I run with my husband but in our case he slows down for me. I love it. He's a great running partner and I think it's been good for our relationship. I really rely on his support to keep me motivated. I think you will really enjoy it.

Hey everyone! Non-runner here. Well, I run/walk for exercise and have my sights sets on a half in the future, but no date has been assigned to the goal yet!

However, we recently booked the first half of our upcoming WDW vacation during the 2015 Marathon Weekend. (Through DVC rental that is non-changeable for my in-laws.) This was by mistake, even though we are seasoned Disney-goers, as I was thinking the Marathon was later in January and idiotically didn't check the dates before my MIL booked!!!

Question is: How crazy are the parks Wednesday-Sunday for the average guest visiting? How about Monday-Thursday in the days following the races?

I was there last year (2013) for all the days you are interested in. It was not crazily crowded on any of the days. Just using a very general crowd level scale of light, medium, and heavy crowds, I experienced barely medium crowds Wednesday through Sunday, and light crowds Monday through Thursday.

I hope you have a great trip :)

Agree with Outonarun, the crowds aren't bad. The one thing to watch out for is road closures and such on the days of the races, especially if you drive around property. You'll also see the races in the parks on Saturday (end of the half marathon in Future World in Epcot) and Sunday (Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Epcot for the marathon). Other than those things I'd guess it won't affect you too much at all :)

This will be my very first full marathon. I am slow, so hoping to finish. I have had so much fun at the Princess Half races, looking forward to covering all the parks in one race. Loved Wine and Dine last year too!

Hi all, I have decided to defer my 2015 half to 2016 because I am registered for Star Wars Rebel Challenge, as much as I would like to do both and get my coast to coast quickly, it isn't in my budget to do both plus work would kill me. I will prob do my C2C with 2015 Wine & Dine.

It's funny that before I registered for WDW 1/2 I emailed RunDisney to ask if a Star Wars 1/2 was announced if you can change from WDW to Star Wars and of course was given the defer answer.

I have a question, originally my race was to be girls weekend, but the family recently got an amazing deal at Sheraton Vistana I Drive and now the family is considering coming to cheer me on. If I had to take a cab to the start from the sheraton on International drive, about what time do you think I would need to leave the resort? All my other races been on property, so just curious. I want to avoid sitting in traffic as much as possible too....too much stress for me so I don't mind getting their early.

I just went to JetBlue's website and put my dates in and WALA! They showed up!! For those waiting for JB's extension of their dates to book their flights for marathon weekend, go now! The e-mails are going out tonight for true blue members to book starting tomorrow. I got round trip from Syracuse for $228 pp!!!:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

I'm 90% sure I'm going to sign up for Goofy. Just getting things cleared with work and giving myself a few more training sessions to make my mind up. :upsidedow

I remember those days! Even training for my first full, I remember having a tough 11 mile training run and thinking: I'm not even halfway! :scared:

I don't run or train with my spouse, but I just wanted to say welcome!! :goodvibes

We were there those dates last year. Crowds were pretty light on the days before the races. Saturday and Sunday were about average. The week following was pretty light at non-MK parks. And I highly recommend spectating a race one of the mornings. My DD and I went to Hollywood Studios during the full marathon. We spectated just outside for a little while, then went in and did some attractions, then spectated near the sorcerer's hat. The road closures another poster mentioned would be good to pay attention to. Also be aware that parks with the race going through will have places where the athletes need to cross paths. You may have to wait a bit until the CMs switch the path and allow guests to cross. On Sunday, this would be the case in all 4 parks depending on what time you arrive. On Saturday, if you stick to AK or DHS, there won't be any runners since the half marathon doesn't go through those parks.

You are welcome!! :wizard:

7 months from today is the BIG DAY!!:cool1:

So what sort of training plan is everyone doing? Care to share the website? I was just going to make up my own but I think I will feel more diligent if I have something to go by. I've already told my zumba friends and volleyball team that I'm not committing to anything this fall except for my training. I just don't want it to be a nice day out, but I have a game to go to, ya know?

My family and I are very close to booking with JB for flights, just fine tuning a few things.

7 months, seems like a long time but its already been 5 since the last WDW Marathon weekend plus there's a lot to do.

Training-wise, I'll being increasing my long run distance (from 10 --> 15/16) over the next few months. Once September hits, I'll be aiming for my 20+ mile runs. Would love to get three 20+ milers in but December is a wildcard month.

Seven months!!! That is so exciting!!! I am using the Hal Higdon Dopey training program. http://www.halhigdon.com/writing/57107/Dopey Challenge Training Guide

I have used his plans for my last few half marathons and have been very happy with the results. ;) I definitely have to have a program to follow! I always print it out and stick it up on the fridge, then check off each workout as I complete it with a red pencil. I know it's silly, but seeing all those nice red check marks is a HUGE motivator for me! :D

Higdon for me too. I used his Novice 1 plan for the marathon in 2012 and for Goofy in 2013. Using his Dopey plan this year! Won't start that until early/mid September. :)
