Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

I actually need to talk to my Dad about whether or not I can sign up for the 5k now. Funnily enough I'm more concerned about that filling up than the Marathon. Actually I'm concerned about both considering the registration this year but that's not the point. Dad wants me to wait on registering until things get more settled next month but I'm worried that next month might be too late. And then we have to deal with alternative more expensive methods.

Its going to be a bit tense for me since I can't register right when it opens I'm going to be keeping an eye constantly on those bars once they finally pop up.

Hi Everyone,
I really can not wait for tomorrow for 11:59 am :hourglass to come around because i already want to register for the :goofy: CHALLENGE. :faint:

i try to get my friends who were annual pass holder to register for me but it was no good.. :sad2: i just wished that they wouldve done me the favor. :guilty:

For Disney Family Fun Run 5k, do you need a proof of time, hoping to do a 5k this summer or fall so I have a better idea, but just asking

No, you don't. In fact, I don't think the Family Fun 5K is a timed race either.

Edit: If I'm not mistaken, they do ask for an estimated finishing time for the purposes of corral placement....but it's not as if you need to cite a particular race even finish time and date.

Nope, you just put in your estimated pace!

There's a clock, and I think the rules are different for Dopey runners...but if you run the 5K only your bib won't have a chip on it, so you don't get an official time. :)

Well, I talked it through with the hubby and I will be doing the Disney World marathon! I've never done a full before! I was registered for the Dallas Marathon in 2013 but it was cancelled (for the first time in Dallas marathon history) because of ice storms. Doing all that training for nothing more than a shirt in the mail took the wind out of my sails quite a bit but this path of having Disney World be the location of my first full marathon seems kind of inevitable in hindsight :goodvibes I can't wait to sign up tomorrow:cool1:

With the crowd support, entertainment, friendliness of other runners, ample water stops, and real bathrooms in the parks - DisneyWorld is the best place I can think of to run one's first marathon!

Welp on the bright side my trainer is completely with me doing the marathon. In fact the first message on Facebook (he's in Colorado and I'm in Chile right now) back to me was and I quote 'Cool. So are you planning on running it all or doing some run/walk intervals?'

Out of all the responses I had imagined (and trust me I had thought of several). That I had to say was not one of them.

I half expected to have to convince him in the same manner I'm having to do with my parents at the moment. They are mostly on board with me running the Marathon but every now and then they will ask me if I'm really sure about it. And so I have to say that yes, I will be ready in time by January. Good lord I have seven full months ahead of me to prepare to make that jump again and it's not like I'm a race rookie. I have over 15 half marathons under my belt. And a couple of fulls for that matter (admittedly its been three years since my last one (medical combined with a really crappy trainer (not my current trainer)) but not the point).

So now I just got to get registered. And probably remind my parents again before than that yes I will be ready by January.

Those ice storms were awful. My husband was in Dallas for a work trip, and had a pre-planned 24 hour trip back home for an event. He managed to get out and back, and was only 6ish hours late back, but we spent a LOT of hours on the phone with the airlines!

Did they at least let you defer it to this year?

I'm planning on doing 5k, it will be my first, I was wondering if I should sign up tomorrow when they go on sale. Don't even know for sure if we will be able to go down there, but hopefully

Remember that you won't be able to have anyone pick up your bib, so if you can't make it at all, you'll have to defer (if allowed) or just eat the registration fee.

It is timed. There are clocks, and if you are running Dopey your time is recorded!

Clocks yes, but they record "gun" time. I can't do math while running (and remembering numbers is part of that), so remembering the time I crossed the start line to figure out my actual time is impossible. I was so bummed that they didn't time it for the plain old 5K runners because I wanted to know, but neither DS nor I could remember when we crossed the start.
