Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

Ready to register tomorrow! Not decided on 13.1 versus 26.2. I tried to do the Full last year & pooped out at 19.5 miles.

The half is almost a sure thing for me, but I really would like to finish a full at WDW. I think I have my answer (full), but I want to be confident in my decision & time is of the essence! :hourglass

There are only a limited number of early registration slots available. Once that limit is hit, everyone, including AP holders and DVC members, has to sign up once regular registration opens.

The problem may be with the website. I just registered two people for the half yesterday (Sunday). When you go to a certain screen, it says full. Then when you back out of it and go to the link from DVC another time, it will have saved your cart and this time it will take you to a payment page. (The first time it won't let you go past the release-signing page.) I registered five people (1 Goofy, 2 full, 2 half) this way since last Thursday.

Hope that helps some people. At least as of yesterday, it is not full.

Yay Registration Day! Already have hotel booked so after today all I will have left is airfare.

Those ice storms were awful. My husband was in Dallas for a work trip, and had a pre-planned 24 hour trip back home for an event. He managed to get out and back, and was only 6ish hours late back, but we spent a LOT of hours on the phone with the airlines!

Did they at least let you defer it to this year?

They didn't do any deferments. It was just straight up cancelled. They mailed everyone their shirts and are offering discounts to 2014's races, and if you run in 2014 you'll get the medal you would have earned in 2013. Plus they have this special deal with Rock n' Roll series where is you ran the 2014 Dallas Rock n' Roll and the Dallas half/marathon you get an extra medal, so I would be getting three medals if I do their races. I do love me some race bling ...

With the crowd support, entertainment, friendliness of other runners, ample water stops, and real bathrooms in the parks - DisneyWorld is the best place I can think of to run one's first marathon!

Wait. What? You're able to use the real bathrooms?

Hot diggity dog.

The problem with this is that everyone else wants to use the real bathrooms too, so the lines can get pretty big! I always think about stopping at the TTC bathrooms or the ones in Tomorrowland (MK), but the lines are pretty big.

From what I remember Frontierland (MK) bathroom lines weren't super long...ditto for the bathrooms in Asia (Animal Kingdom) and the very last bathrooms you pass before leaving Hollywood Studios. There are also a few real bathrooms in Wide World of Sports.

Yeah definitely one of the runDisney perks. And one of the reasons why I'm running this vs waiting two months for the LA Marathon among other things. Real bathrooms.

I'm not one who has to make a bathroom stop on course very often. But man does having those bathrooms open when running the parks on both coasts (Disneyland does is too) sure is nice when nature comes a calling!

The lines can get pretty long especially if you hit the very first bathroom in the parks. Always better to bypass the first bathroom you see is my policy and wait for the second or maybe the third one. Why? Because everyone will be making a mad dash for that first one and probably the second one too (I went for the second one at Tinkerbell in retrospective should have waited until I hit the third one at least before I made a stop since their was a fairly decent line). If you can wait out a little bit you'll have a lot shorter line and have a lot less time spent on the bathroom stop. As you obviously saw when you made the bathroom stop further in the park and not at the park entrance.

Uh, okay... were you following me??... Seriously! I used those exact restrooms this past January's marathon!!

If you aren't feeling too good during a race, or you have above-average health/medical need for a restroom/port-o-potty, Disney's generous availability of them is certainly appreciated. :thumbsup2

The restrooms by enchanted grove across from treacups where the rabbit and Alice come out of were empty for both the half and the full!

Good luck to everyone registering today!!

Shhh - that's my secret bathroom! :lmao:

Site not responding well right now - doing my best to have patience, haha

It seems we/many of us have similar strategies in mind as we run, and we keep running runDisney races, so they apparently work for us, and sharing our strategies here on the boards might help others, which is awesome! :)

I had trouble in years past registering as an AP holder, and later as a DVC member, and the Disboards helped me from freaking out both times

Yeah, Disboard members! :cheer2:
