You can't walk through Epcot to get to the corrals in the morning, right? I mean, if you stay at Boardwalk, you can't walk to the International Gateway, walk through Epcot, and get to the start line, correct?

Correct.

Anyone know the active.com fees on registration? I called a travel agent who can pre-register me, but they are giving me a price of 195, so I'm trying to figure out if that's about the same price? They also are getting a block of rooms at different disney hotels, which may or may not be cheaper than I can get through AAA, so that may factor into the decision.

My payment total was 181.55 - hope that helps!

Thanks so much to everyone for the PHM vs. Marathon Weekend thoughts! I was initially hesitant to run the PHM because I'm not a fan of the princess theme. When I was growing up, it was all about Minnie/Mickey and not so much princesses. So I've always loved Minnie/Mickey (and Epcot is my favorite park - not MK!) But you all have described the PHM just as I saw it, in terms of the theme and focus. So I'm excited about a return to the Minnie/Mickey theme and more focus on athletics generally.

The thing I LOVED about the PHM was starting at the front of Corral C and running it with no crowding!!! All the runners there were really friendly and there wasn't any pushing, etc. In the photo of me running through the castle, there isn't anyone else in the photo - gloriously uncrowded!! The humidity got to me, and outside running is NOT the same after a couple months on the treadmill, but I finished in 1:57. So I'm wondering what that means for my WDW Marathon corral crowds. I know I'll definitely be further back in terms of corral placement, but I wonder where the heavy crowds start. Please help me manage expectations!

P.S. Love all your race reports - always love to see the links to trip reports and blogs!!!

One other thing - I'm a little sad and hoping others can share their own experiences or positive thoughts! After my 10-mile run last Friday, my knee started to bother me. I followed that with two relatively comfortable four-mile runs. But yesterday, my knee hurt so much that I had to stop. This hasn't ever happened to me before - I've always run injury-free. So I went in to the doctor, and she thinks it's an injured (but hopefully not torn) meniscus. Her advice - no running for a month (what?!?!), back inside to the treadmill when I start again (boo - I've been so happy to run outside again for the past few weeks) and stay away from my favorite hill (another boo - I have this great hill right along the lake that I LOVE running.)

I have a half marathon coming up in June, and hopefully I can still do that. And the WDW marathon is so far away that I should be fine by that time. Going to get back into swimming for the next few weeks . . . :(

She just thinks that's what it is? is there any way to definitively diagnose you? Is this a sports-specific doctor? Is she, herself, a runner?

If not, I would search for a sports-specific doctor who is also an athlete who understands the mental/emotional/conditioning issues that you deal with.

And I would try to get a definitive diagnosis rather than a vague one, if at all possible.

Hi bumbershoot! No, just a primary care physician - I'm going into a sports medicine clinic on Monday. Hoping for more info and a concrete plan.

Glad you'll be seeing a specialist

My brother went a year before having a hernia officially diagnosed and fixed because the doctors he went to were anti-running. It only ever hurt when running (and not every run) and one memorable day when we finally got him to California Adventure, and the docs just kept saying "you're a runner, running hurts, just stop running and you won't have pain". For nearly a year. With a hernia. The fifth doctor (partner of the first) was an active man and finally heard what my brother was saying. When he found the hernia to fix it, said he was amazed it was causing so many problems because it was so tiny, but it was there, it caused severe pain, and thank goodness brother found someone who understood that running doesn't usually cause THAT sort of pain.

Thanks so much for sharing this story - awful for your brother to go that long not knowing the real issue, but a good illustration of what you can learn with persistence. Your questions really made me think about how important it is to get that additional assessment from someone with experience and the right area of expertise. I really appreciate you taking the time to ask the questions and share this information - really helpful. Thank you!!!

P.S. I need to start cross training anyway - I love running so much that I've been resistant, but it's good to get swimming into the mix. Anyone cross train with swimming?

I do, mostly because it's too hot over here to run much during the summer. Well, that and that I grew up swimming and really enjoy it. :)

I'm so glad I could help in some way.

What's funny is that he knew it was a hernia. He just couldn't get anyone to believe him, because you couldn't see anything poking out on his belly or anything. Our mom, however, had had a hernia once and I guess he remembered how it hurt her, etc, and he just knew it. My brother isn't an overweight guy at all, but running is THE way he keeps himself in shape. He would swim for hours every day, but it just didn't burn the calories the way running does *for his body*, and he gained somewhere around 15 lbs that year, which bothered him to no end. We were all so glad when he got that doc to listen to him!

I don't do swimming, but I've started with spin classes, and I'm strength training. The spinning is helping me find some reserves of power and some competitive spirit (above mentioned brother won everything we ever competed in, and it just sucked away any drive I ever had to win or even try to win...darned little brother!), which I'm hoping will help me find some power in these races. And the strength training is to be stronger and firm up everything that isn't firm, and, hopefully, will help me be more powerful as well. I think it's great to do other things.

Anyone cross train with swimming?
I do some swimming in the summer, but not in place of running. We're in the pool a LOT, so I just swim some laps while I'm there. I do cross training on non-run days: yoga, Pilates, ballet, strength training.

I registered through the AP website (myself and my wife and siblings), got a confirmation email, but the email is blank. My card was charged for the amount of the race for the 4 of us, but I can't get to the confirmation webpage. Even the link that I printed out doesn't really say anything but gives me a confirmation number. Does anyone else have that issue? :confused3

If you have confirmation numbers for everyone you should be good...I'd email runDisney to check though. Preferably tomorrow before general registration opens on Tuesday.

I'm planning on doing 5k, it will be my first, I was wondering if I should sign up tomorrow when they go on sale. Don't even know for sure if we will be able to go down there, but hopefully

The 5K sold out quickly last year! It's a smaller capacity race and a good number of slots were taken up by Dopey runners.

Make sure to watch the runDisney site/Facebook/Twitter as they'll update the capacities of each race starting when they are 50% full. When it's in the high 90s you know it's about to sell out.

I'm most likely signing up first thing, just gotta talk to my dad about it today. We will most likely go
