Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

I'm doing the Hal Higdon Intermediate 2 plan. Anyone else on that plan?

This being my first marathon - but having a running background going back decades - I wasn't sure which plan to pick. The novice plans didn't seem challenging enough but I'm sure I wasn't ready for an advanced plan. It's turned out this intermediate plan seems to be about right, challenging without pushing me to the point of injury.

I've used his Intermediate plans, with slight changes, for multiple marathons with great success. The Sat/Sun back to back work of Intermediate 2 has been good for Goofy training over the past couple of years. The only change I usually make is substituting one of the short run days for cross training. I didn't feel like I was getting a whole lot out of a second 3-5 miler each week.

Enjoy your first marathon, there is nothing like crossing that line after your first :thumbsup2

I ran a full marathon last weekend, so I'm not really sure the best way for me to proceed... Normally, this weekend would be my last, and longest "long run" at 22 miles...but I don't think I can do that so soon after last weekend.

Right now I'm thinking I will do about 12, next weekend do one that's about 16, and the following weekend (last one before the marathon) another 12 mile run.

Your plan looks like a reverse taper, so I'd say it's probably a good idea.

Is everyone planning on their last big run this weekend? If the weather cooperates I'm looking to do 20. Or 18. Not whichever comes first. It also depends on how many of the 19 dogs on my road are out and feel like chasing me!! I've got pepper spray but thankfully have never had to use it.

The hay is almost in the barn!! :woohoo::banana::worship::cool1:

Yep. 20 miler this week (I did a marathon 3 weeks ago and 9 weeks ago already so I'm feeling like I'm in a good place for WDW).

I've had to resort to carrying pepper spray , too. With our cold weather, people are letting their dogs out without going out with them and I've had a couple of not-so-good experiences.

One incident was somewhat humorous - I was running by this elderly man's house and he has a very, very tiny dog that ran to the opposite side of the road to nip at my feet. The dog is tiny and slow and really didn't pose much of a threat and I made my way past it without incident.

As I continued, he yelled at me "You're lucky she didn't bite you!" - in a manner that seemed like *I* did something. That kinda ticked me off so I started to yell back "No, YOU'RE lucky she didn't bite me!" but I stopped and thought that he's elderly and do I really need to act like that to this guy? So, I changed it up and it came out "No, YOU'RE....probably right about that" and then laughed to myself at how stupid it must have sounded.

I like dogs but sometimes their owners....not so much.

Wow, and I thought my 6 week gap between marathons was short :worship: Not sure how hard you raced, but I'm sure it would do me more harm than good to throw in 22 a week later.

Haha, thanks for the laugh! And thanks that you were able to just "Let It Go" (I know, groan)

3 more weeks!!!!!

I'd rest or do a short run.

I've been told by my doctor (he's a runner too) to not run with a fever. A fever is drain enough on your body's resources (his words). As an aside, he's not only 'allowed' me to run in the past when I had sinus congestion without a fever - he's actually recommended it. So it seems he puts a lot of emphasis on whether there is a fever present or not.

Whatever you decide, here's hoping it runs its course quick! Good luck!

Thank you guys! :goodvibes

My wife forced me to go to the doc yesterday and I'm positive for the flu.

Curiously, I'm not feeling as god-awful as I expected to feel. Then again, I seem to have lost 2-3 pounds in the last 2 days.

On Tamiflu now. Per doc, no running until 24 hours fever free. Low fever is now back as of this morning, so it looks like a long taper it is. :(

I did my longest (20) last weekend because of babysitter conflicts. I was supposed to do it this weekend. My husband is on call since yesterday through next Friday. Normally if he is on call I can get the MIL to watch the kids while I long run but she has company this weekend through next weekend. I am having trouble figuring out how to get something in this weekend. Thoughts? My plan was supposed to be 20, 10, 6 then marathon but I was hoping I could get in at least 10 this weekend and make it 10, 10, 6. I was considering just skipping my long run this weekend and just making sure I get my midweek runs in. Ideas?

So the digital guide says you can sign up for runner tracking on the website, but I don't see anything on the website for it. Am I missing it, or have they just not put it up yet?

I don't think it's up yet. When it is, it will be on the 'Spectator' tab.

It's normally not up until a week or so before the events start. :)

Last long run in the books, 21 miles on Saturday. Still have a pretty tough week of training ahead (minus Christmas Day of course), but I'm getting ready to ease into my taper.

3 weeks today! I'm pretty sure my hay is at the barn door...

Same here - 21 yesterday. Before that, my longest run was 20. I would be comfortable with 20, but I was feeling good and wanted to see if it felt any different to go just a bit past 20.

Not crazy about the merchandise preview. Interested to see the race shirt designs. Will be tough to beat the 2014 PHM shirts - love those - neutral color, simple design, great fit.

Taking my DW down to Disney for her first road race having just started run/walking earlier this year. We are celebrating milestone b-days together. I'll do half with her and then complete the Goofy Sunday. Fairly good training although, since she is a teacher, so she gets little crud here and there from students so has impacted her training a touch the last couple of weeks. She will make it with the Disney magic and the energy of the crowd but was still wondering --- She is training to 15 minute pace so should be fine but wish RunDis would be clear on the sweeping. When I ran half in 2013 they didn't sweep until slower than 16 from the last corral. However, I think I read in 2014 that they swept up slower folks even earlier in the race that would have started in earlier corrals. Any ideas on what is in store in 2015?

Opposite here...I am typically not one to fuss over event merchandise. I usually am good with the event shirt and spend money at other vendors, but this preview has me excited. I love the Marathon shirts, want a runD magic band, love the visor and pullovers... and I happy with the fun colors. I was so disappointed with PHM shirts last year, I hardly wear any of them. I think I am just not a light colored shirt kinda gal.

Glad the run went well, something that just feels good getting past 20 miles!

I liked the pint glasses and the RunDisney Magic Bands, but none of the clothing really did it for me either.

First congrats on your DW's accomplishments... what a fun way to celebrate:cool1:
It is my understanding that the 16 min pace requirements start as soon as the LAST person in the LAST corral crosses the starting line. So, you will have a buffer over that 16 min/mi if you guys are not starting in the last corral. If you are in the last corral and worried about the pacing requirements, I would get to the corrals early and make your way to the front of the corral. Keep a 15 min/mi pace and skip any character stops with long lines until you feel you are well enough ahead of the back of the pack. Whatever you do, DO NOT GO OUT BLAZING! keep your training pace from the start and you will be fine! Have fun, no matter what! See you in a few weeks!

Good luck with your BQ!

I finished my last 20 miler this morning and celebrated with a 2-2-2 breakfast at Chuck's Restaurant (2 sausage, 2 bacon, 2 eggs, 2 pancakes and home fries). Being a 180 lb runner I burn close to 3000 calories on these long runs. Very happy I made it through the high mileage training without injury... now to make it to Jan 11 without getting sick.

I like the merchandise, especially the gray tech shirt, I'm sure I will pick up one of those.

I don't remember hearing anything about early sweeping at the '14 Half.

I remember hearing about the 10k mess at the Disneyland event last year, some weird sweeping situation, but not about anything at wdw.
