Official 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon

I use Gu and haven't had issues with it but it made my dad sick. Many different types of energy shots made him sick. I also Can't take them before a race it really throws me off so I just use them later in the race. Like many others said you just need play around with it.

I LOVE LOVE my Ifitness belt. I have the double pouch one and it holds everything I need. I have 2 water bottles on it. it never moves out of place.

Hoep everyone is having fun training

Just wanted to give a tip that I recently found a FB group for buying/selling running gear you don't want/need anymore...I see a lot of good deals go through there! I actually just posted my first "for sale" last night. Anyway, just thought I'd post in case anyone is looking to maybe spruce up their running wardrobe without spending too much or needs a new gadget (i've seen several garmins on there in the last couple of weeks!) It's a closed group, so you have to request to join, but I was added within a day or two when I requested. I'm personally not affiliated with them, nor do I personally know anyone there, just thought it was a great idea :) (If you happen to be looking for some super clean, very lightly used Asics Nimbus or Brooks Pure Cadence both size 8.5...you should head over there...or PM me!!! )

Going to post this over on the Princess board too, sorry if ya read it twice!

I've seen the term "fuel" used regularly and was wondering what everyone uses? I've seen mention of glucose packs, is this the same thing? Stressing over not having enough energy along the route. Also, are hydration belts a needed thing for the half?

Ideally you should be ingesting about 140 calories per hour. Remember that you are replenishing what your body needs and not replacing what you have used. Many people use gels/sports beans/blocks because they are convenient to carry, but there is no reason you can't use whole foods.

Whole foods can include peanut butter sandwiches, cheese sandwiches, trail mix, raisins, pickles, candies, fig cookies or any other mix of carbs/protein. Avoid high sugar or fats foods.

If you use gels be sure to drink water right after taking one to avoid stomach issues. If you use a sugared electrolyte drink you need to be careful with using gels. Gels have sugar in them to help with digesting, but too much sugar can cause stomach problems.

Also, you should be drinking 20-26 ounces of water per hour so using only aid stations is usually not enough water for the average runner.

The running group I coach in always teaches self reliance so we don't depend on the aid stations. In most races I use the aid stations minimally if at all. The exception is for trail races since they have more robust aid stations including real food.

Major question:

I am staying at the Candy Cane Inn for the Tinkerbell. My question is how to get to the Start. Do you go through the DLR entrance and through Downtown Disney or is it quicker and easier to walk the other way (I think Harbor and Katella?)? Also, when you finish, do you go the other way or back through Downtown Disney? Hope that make sense.

Thanks!

I think it's easier going down Katella. The bag drop/staging area are in the parking lot of Paradise Pier. After the finish, I would say that Katella is faster again, but you have to cross over the course and if you're fast enough, they may not let you cut back through yet and in that case it would be easier just to go down DTD instead of waiting. You can eventually cut through as time passes and it gets closer to the end of the race.

Thanks! That is what I was thinking too. No worry about me being so fast that I have to wait to cross the course. I will most likely be a few steps ahead of the "balloon ladies" but, I am determined to be there and to finish.

Are discount tickets ever available to West coast runners not booking a package.

trying to figure out my best options for tickets.

I will spend at least 22 days at Disney World next year between runs and family vacations so a DVC annual pass makes sense.

for the West coast I will be spending minimum 6 days one trip and minimum 4 days for the other. I would go more days if I had a annual pass. 2 of my 4 day trip are blackout days so I would buy the Premier passport. Unless I can buy discounted tickets.

They I have to figure out the rest of my family who will all be joining me but at different times on different trips.

deciding to run was the easy part.

For Tickets, look at Get Travel. They may have the best deal on park hopper and multi day tickets. That is the travel agency for the race. The best part is that you are able to pick up the tickets at the expo or have them mailed to you for a small fee.

Super excited!
Just ordered on of the shirts I'm going to wear for Tink weekend. And sent DH a link to the Sparkle Skirt I want to go with it! Now I just need to decide if this is my 10K or half outfit and pick up a few more accessories for it!

Yay! Where/what did you order? I want to get the you can fly SS, but I'm afraid everyone will be wearing it lol. No clue on a top yet.

I've fallen so far behind on this thread. We were in WDW at the end of August, so I focused on that trip. Now that our back to school routine is more settled, it's time for me to start focussing on Tink! I'm right on track with my training, but I don't have any of the other fun details set. Well, air and hotel are set, but I've never been to DL so I'm feeling lost!

I ordered Black Pearl to go with the Raw Threads Rum Runner shirt. I have a skull and crossbones visor already and I'll probably get some striped socks or something to go with it.

I love the you can fly skirt! Thought about doing that one with the Raw Threads Fly 13.1 shirt that I already have but dont know if I'd wear it other than Tink.

I've only been to DL so I'm biased when I say this but You'l love it!

For fuel during the race -- I seem to remember the Tink had 1 station near the end, but I recommend you bring your own. I'm one of those people where the "energy" kinds make me sick. I've tried all brands, the same result :guilty: Honey Stingers are my favorite race fuel -- yummy tasting and they don't make me sick. The Cherry Blossom is yummmmm. :thumbsup2

Your costume will be great! I feel the same about only using the you can fly skirt potentially once. I thought about Blimey because I could do more with that. I do want something green. Decisions decisions!

Why do you say "only once"? Lime green is my favorite color. I'm thinking about ordering it. I would wear it all the time to run in.

I posted this on the princess board but thought I would post it here too...

Hey guys! Just wanted to give a reminder that if you are in the market for a tutu now is a great time to buy them cheap! I just got my Tinkerbell 1/2 tutu at a local Halloween store on clearance, it is black and neon green got it for $9. Plan on wearing black tights and black top with it for Tink. Then I went to Joann Fabric and all of their Halloween costumes are 70% off. I got a premade tutu that is black, red, and white with a big black bow for $8! Wasn't sure what I was planning on wearing for the Princess but now I'm going to to do the Original Mickey Mouse club look with that tutu and mouse ears..... I was going to make my own tutus but for how cheap they are now it's worth just buying them! Just an FYI!

Oh its lovely! But I don't see myself doing training runs in any of the glittery skirts really. The glitter scares me lol. But definitely a really pretty skirt!
