Official 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon

I'm in!! I wanted to do Tink, but I live on the east coast, I'm traveling for W&D, our family was supposed to travel for christmas and then traveling for PHM. I didn't think there was any way to swing going all the way out to the west coast for Tink. Well our christmas travel plans were canceled so I immediately though about doing Tink. I sold it to dh Tuesday night and yesterday he gave me the thumbs up. I was planning on doing PHM and DL half for C2C but now I can get the pink medal. Pretty darn excited!

Patty, you're not anywhere near those tornados, are you? Hope you are safe.

T&Ps for anyone affected by them!

Can't afford next year with the Tink and the Glass Slipper challenge, I'm gonna be BROKE :upsidedow

Yeah I'm there with you. I have to decide between Tink and Nike DC next year as there won't be money for both.

Really leaning to the DC race.

I wish we could afford for me to do princess next year! I would love to get my coast to coast. But its just not meant to be right now. Maybe one of these days.

And on a happier note, I got the ok from my sports med Dr. to start running again! I have to start very very slowly with some pretty long walk intervlas with short jog intervals but Im still excited!

They were HORRIBLE!!! One of the tornado hooks formed right over our neighborhood. Thank goodness it lifted back up.

Our lake house in Granbury -- that's another story. We still haven't been able to get into the area, but from an aerial photo, it looks like the tornado lifted about 200 yards before hitting our house. Good news -- no direct hit. Bad news -- all the debris from the other demolished houses probably ended up on our house. We'll be able to get in tomorrow and see how bad it is.

Praying for the six people who died and the families who lost everything. I just can't imagine...

Glad you're safe! It all sounds so awful!

Jumping in to say I am going for the C2C with Tink and W&D too. DH is joining me for the Tink half. This will be our first trip to Disneyland! We only have enough time for one day per park, and one of the days is race day. The plan is to rest a bit between the race and park time. I'm thinking heading to the park around lunch time. What are the normal park hours during that weekend and which park would you suggest for the day of the race?

Hi! I'm planning for Tink with my husband as well. The parks will probably be open until 10-11pm, with Disneyland usually staying open an hour later than California Adventure. I would actually suggest that you get park hopper tickets. The parks are so close together that you can hop between the two easily.

Yay!! I know you just started back, but are you going to do the SJ Giants again this year or no?

Ditto this, you can go from Main St to Buena Vista in 5-10 min depending on entry lines. But if you stick to the 1-park tix, DL has more to do than DCA, so take that into consideration. Cars Land will probably be longer wait times, but overall there is less to do ride-wise in DCA. Also, I noticed that the parks were crazy-croweded Sun after the race as well. I believe the DL was open until 12 Fri-Sun b/c it was MLK wknd, and DCA was either 9/10.

Posted my race recaps from the weekend in my journal if anyone's interested. Did a Color Run Saturday and Bay to Breakers yesterday. And yes, I did see naked people. :sad2: Good races, but yesterday was bad run. That's ok, sometimes you need the bad ones to learn from.

You had a busy race weekend!!! It been a long time since I did Bay to Breakers.....it was crazy and yes I remember the Hayes Street Hill. :faint:
I managed to do a very slow jog up that darn thing. Do they still have the centipede teams? Those were always fun to watch. But enough of the naked runners. I can't believe they still do that. Can you imagine someone doing that at a RunDisney race :rotfl2: OMG security would be called before you could say, "dippity do da". :rotfl:

I am out for Giants this year. Very bummed that I can't do it since I'm a huge Giants fan and being on the field last year was just incredible. BUT super excited that the reason I can't do it is cause that our Disneyland vacation!!!!! So there is a bright side.

I need to go read your blog! I want to hear about Bay to Breakers!

Centipedes are still there. I didn't see as many as I thought I would, I think I saw 3. As for the naked people, I couldn't do it. It just seems painful w/ all the bouncing from running. But you could definitely smell the suntan lotion. :rotfl2: It was interesting though ~ there were people along the course, w/ professional type cameras, but not pro pics you would buy, taking pics of only the naked people. I was thinking they would match up their bib #'s and either ban them for next year or send them a ticket in the mail, but the cops didn't do anything, so you never know.

I feel your pain, I'm not doing the SF one this summer. I'm going to miss running on that field. Hopefully the pitchers will have their heads straight by then! Have fun in DL though!!! Hopefully it's not to crowded for you.

I'm a Florida girl, never been to Disneyland but I'm going to run Tink next year due to a fortuitous (wow I can't believe I spelled that right on the first try!) series of events (work conference in Long Beach the work before Tink!).

I keep looking at hotels for Tink but I can't get comfortable enough to "pull the switch" and book somewhere. I know there were a lot of runners planning to stay at the Stovall's Best Western, but it looks kind of seedy to me. Am I just used to the Disney Hotels here and being a snob?

I like the prices I'm seeing at Stovall's and I know if I keep vacillating (ok that one took spell check to fix :rotfl2:), the hotels are all going to sell out and I'll be sleeping on a bench somewhere.

I need your help. Is Stovall's BW a nice enough hotel (no bugs, comfortable beds, doesn't smell weird)? Any other suggestions that are within walking distance of the parks and the race start/finish?

Thanks for your help!

Looks like I am in for Tink!!! My DH gave me the GSC for Mother's Day and he just gave me the thumbs up for Tink too! I REALLY want that PINK Coast-to-Coast medal!!!

I would suggest going to the DIS Disneyland page and "search" that hotel lots of talk on that board about hotels. You have tons of hotels truly with in walking distance.
I like Candy Cane Inn.
It is going to depend what your needs are? Are you bringing a family?

Thanks. We definitely won't be bringing the kids, I'll either be alone, maybe with my husband or maybe with a girlfriend... I'm looking for moderate to low price, clean, quiet, not icky and close to DL. I just hate hotels with bad beds and a funky smell/feel.

I personally think Stovalls would be just fine and would feel perfectly safe staying there. Thats where I'll stay if DD and my mom dont come with me.

However if you prefer a "hotel" style to a "motel" style then you may want to check out the Howard Johnson on Harbor. If you call their local number and speak with reservtaions they have something like 20% off for Tink runners that weekend which makes it affordable. Its a longer walk to the start than Stovalls but totally doable. I did it this year and if the family travels with me next year I'll be doing it again. It took me 20 minutes to get to the start line but 30 minutes to walk back after the race. There were lots of other runners walking from there as well I noticed. Their beds are super comfy and the room doors are inside the building as opposed to outside facingthe parking lot if that makes sense.

Id LOVE to stay at Paradise Pier or Disneyland Hotel but it is just not in my budget. But if you can afford it, I'd go for it! Id love to just walk out of my hotel and be at the start line!
