Official 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games thread!

Please let us know if you here from him. I'm very concerned now that his blog has been removed. Sending prayers for his safety.

Thank you.

He's on his way home. He was in Frankfurt last I heard and was flying to Dallas and then to Canada.

Those pictures are sad and it's awful to know that a lot of the local residents are going without basic services such as water, electricity and sewers in order for everything to be thrown at these games, especially since it does not look like it is going to succeed.

I continue to hope for the best!

I have always loved the Olympics!!! I too cry almost every time the Star Spangled Banner is played.

I am terrified for the athletes and spectators this year. We have a very dear friend that was fortunate enough to be an Olympian in basketball at the 2012 games.:woohoo:  It was such a time of jubilation for him, his family and all of us as his friends. I can't imagine the feelings the Olympians have for these games. It makes me so sad that they have worked so hard, are living their dream and all of this unrest may be taking away the joy they should be feeling. Praying they are all safe!

I am proud and humbled by Miss Stephanie Jallen!!!
Google her!:yay:

I Googled her and what an inspiration she is! These are the types of stories that are getting overshadowed by the serious situations of these games. :sad1:
Thank you for sharing her story...

So agree~

There are so many things I would be posting about like, what does everyone think of the medals, etc. but it's just so hard not to focus on the situations at hand.
It goes back to the Washington Post article that a pp posted earlier, pointing the finger to the IOC. Seriously, what were they thinking? And why weren't they monitoring all these situations all along?
There was an IOC representative on the Today Show a couple of days ago. Why she was chosen, I'll never know, but what a poor pr job she did. Diverted answering questions of any substance with the serious situations surrounding these games. It was all optimistic fluff.

My heart too goes out to all the athletes, teams, support systems that work their whole lives for these games.

He took them down when he was still in Sochi. He reposted them later, but they have since been taken down again.

In his "Squashing the Rumours" post, point #3 says "I removed the post myself."

FWIW, I did not see his original posts (I wish I would've) but from reading his current stuff, it looks like he is the one that decided to take it down. That same post also discusses that he is making notes and will repost all the information at a later time.

Yes, he did take them down when he was in Sochi (which is what that rumors blog post was about). A few days later, he put them back up.

Now they are gone again.

Got it! I'm interested to see them *hopefully* put back up.

Less than a week away...
Maybe all the Superbowl hype is taking some of the spotlight off the Olympics, but I'm just not hearing much about them. I haven't had much time to watch tv, so maybe I'm just missing it.
Despite the tenseness surrounding the security, I'm hoping the spirit of the games will soon shine through.

I'm really interested to see the "slope-side" events this year. That and snowboard-cross.
