Official 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games thread!

I can't wait to see the stats on how many people will have watched this game in Canada. It's going to be an enormous percentage. Everyone I know is watching it.

M.

I know they are watching in the gym at my kids' school.

Clearly Canadian educational standards aren't up to snuff!

I kid, I kid. Even in Hockeytown it's not like that here. I think that's a spectacular experience for those kids and something they're unlikely to forget.

True, but there may be a big difference in the quality of the person between these two. I think at 22 she has accomplished all she will in her life.

That's is quite the statement to make about someone you don't know. If you think she has peaked in the skating world, maybe; but in life?

LOL... It is amazing for the kids, and such fun........:banana:

They are joking about our city.. Offices are empty, don't call  Bars are full, and they keep showing them around the country....

Exactly. I think there may be a bit of presumption about what she was referring to as well. I think it may have been more in reference to the other Russian skater. That's where I think the scoring really raises eyebrows.

Unfortunately for Ashley, she was on shaky ground to begin with given her being given a spot on the team in the first place, She then compounded her difficulties by being so outspoken immediately on the heels of the event. It may very well be that speaking out really cost her any shot at ever being utilized as on air commentator in the future by any network because she will score negative with the audience from the start because of the negative association with her.

I'm confused. Why is she making these statements??? I think maybe she should be grateful she was thought of so highly that she was gifted a coveted spot, and leave it at that.

It's not unusual for controversial decisions to be made about who goes to the Olympics, in the US and everywhere else. Once you get there you have the right to be competing on equal footing with everyone else. So I don't think it's as if she should have gone and said, oh, doesn't matter if I don't feel like practicing because I'm not eligible to win anything anyway. She's just as eligible as everyone else. She was unwise in her choice to speak out in the way she did IMO, but it doesn't mean she was wrong in what she had to say.

Personally ever since the team competition I've wanted to see the other Russian skater step up and skate lights out in the individual and shock everybody to take the gold. As it stands, she fell in long & short programs, yet managed to score ahead of skaters with strong difficulty, good artistry who didn't fall? That doesn't smell right.

Great game, great outcome!

Congrats to both teams on an awesome game to watch!

I was just answering a question that was asked of me, not sure what you mean.

Sorry - I wasn't picking on you. Just in general being forgiving of someone very young using a term that she probably does not realize is a slur. I just "used" your explanation.

Looks like I'll need some good strong coffee Sunday morning!!!:goodvibes

I think my son will go get us Some Mcd breakfast muffins and hash browns, and I will keep the Keurig going and going:) So happy he can drive now.
