Official 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games thread!

Ugh...bite me, NBC!

Seriously, last night Matt Lauer insisted during the opening ceremonies that NBC would NOT be airing results of the games on their networks during the day, instead waiting until they air the actual events in primetime. This morning they spoiled it TWICE! First on our local affiliate they ran a crawl under the local news cast spoiling the results and then the friggin' TODAY SHOW did a full on report by Lester Holt first thing when the show started. he even said to turn away from the screen and mute the tv since they were spoiling results!

I wouldn't have even cared that they were giving results...they do it every time and I'm used to avoiding it. But when you SAY your not going to do it and then do it...BITE ME.

I don't think she was referring to your comment specifically, just about the cauldron lighter in general.

As for the U.S. team's jackets, I can see why people would think they look like Christmas sweaters, or old lady sweaters, but this season's fashion trend is print on print. apparently, the more the better. I think this is R. Lauren's interpretation of it by using all American symbols.

Print on Print:

Yuck. Guess I won't be in style this season.

And those are pretty ugly as well.

I don't care what country the snotty little punk is from. His tweet spoke volumes about his lack of character.

scroll over in case somebody has not seen the slopestyle results

Glad to see Parrott was just a loud-mouthed, snotty punk who couldn't produce.

Of course, his tweet blaming the judges for not making the podium just solidifies his lack of character.

Can someone explain Team Figure Skating? I've never heard of it, I know I haven't kept up on figure skating but didn't realise I was that far out of touch!

I'm another one that absolutely loved the USA sweaters/outfits! My motto is: You can never have enough red, white & blue and stars and stripes.

I love them too! I think they look great with the white pants! :thumbsup2 Of course, I love Ralph Lauren's designs.:)

Just for fun, Last night I goggled the sweater. One was listed on E-bay. (auction ended by the time I found it). For a mere, $2,000.00, you could have owned one! :rotfl:

GO< TEAM U.S.A.!!!

TC :cool1:

well we did it all medals for our country

Hup Nederland!

Hope I said that right - parents are from Holland so we are always rooting for both the Red,White and Blue, and the Orange.

Team Figure Skating is new in this Olympics. It's a combination of all the different skating types, Men's, Women's, Pairs, and Ice Dancing. Each participating country puts forth two performances in each of the 4 types, both a short program and the free skate. So a total of 8 performances per country. The countries are scored normally for each event and then ranked according to those results. Then they get points, 10 for 1st place, down to 1 for 10th. After all 8 events, the point totals are added up to determine the standings.

I hope that makes sense! And by the way, these performances are completely separate from the individual events. The skater who performs for their country in say the Women's portion for example, will also perform again later in the Olympics for the actual Women's competition.

When they were first shown, they were going for $600 each. I can't afford that either. :lmao: But if I could, I'd definitely own it and wear it with pride!

Nice to see what you consider his lack of sportsmanship followed with your own.

I wasn't quite as upset at others by what was said. However, if you're going to talk smack you'd better be able to back it up. Obviously, he didn't. And we don't have to show sportsmanship, we're posting on the DIS. Nothing to do with sports.

If people are going to complain about poor sportsmanship, they should at least display it themselves.

As for the event, they were all in the final where it is anyone's game.

They did have a point though, White had lots to lose by competing in that event and not winning. It would have hurt his brand.

There have been plenty of substitutions during the Team skates probably for the same reasons as Shaun White. Why take a chance of getting hurt and not being able to perform at your main event. I don't disagree with what Shaun White did at all. There seem to be a lot of injuries and it's only Day 2. And he's already been hurt in the not too distant past. And talk about sportsmanship, what about your comments? Holding others to a higher standard than yourself?

Your son?

If it is poor sportsmanship in commenting on how an individual athlete can't back up his smack talk (his choice to make himself look like a fool) and then rather than accept defeat with grace, he continues and smack talks the judges and blames them, then so be it.

There are bad examples of character on all the teams and the officials. The rumors of vote swapping between the US and Russian skating judges to keep the Canadians off the team skating podium, if true, is sickening. But for now it is just rumor. Parrott just has been the loudest in making a mockery of himself. And he doesn't leave it to rumor as he puts it in writing with his tweets.

Virtue and Moir are showing true character and sportsmanship by not badmouthing the judges or even commenting on the scandal and rumors that they are being kept off the podium on purpose. They are true examples of Olympic athletes.

My comments simply called out a poster who talk bad about an athlete. The exact thing she complained about.

I think the substitutions in figure skating are quite different than White's withdrawal. Shaun White is a brand and not doing well would hurt the value of his brand. The figure skaters are not at that level at all.

My son! Why would you think that? You're right, he didn't win but he was in the final and went for it, something Shaun White decided he wouldn't do.
