Official 2014 Disneyland Dumbo Double Dare, Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k Thread!

Are all the hotels within walking distance of the corrals sold out already? This is my first rundisney race and I'm looking for a hotel to stay at for myself and my girlfriends coming with. Any ideas?

It depends on what your definition of "walking distance" is. There are dozens of hotels/motels surrounding Disneyland, and it is very rare that they all sell out. It's possible that the ones *closest* to the corrals are sold out, but there are still lots of options. The last two times I've been down, I've stayed about a mile from the corrals and have walked to and from the start. It's a great warm up/cool down, just takes some extra time.

I just ran a half marathon about 3.5 mins faster than the time I submitted for proof. Is that even worth updating with track shack? I went from approx 2:29:50 to 2:26:20. It looks like Corral B for Tinkerbell was <2:30 so I obviously wouldn't move up, but I wonder if it's safer to be further away from the cut off?

Completely up to you. But it certainly doesn't hurt to submit the new time is what I figure. Might make you feel more comfortable in making sure you are in B.

I am somewhere in the middle of D and will be trying to make a last ditch effort to make the jump to C. Which is about minute faster off my fastest current pace. As soon as I am cleared for full running in a couple of weeks I'll start ramping up the speed again. But it's going to be a bit. Just have to wait to hit the six week mark when I pas the 'You can do strenuous activity mark'. At least I was able to convince my RN to let me do light version of running ahead of time (got cleared Friday, thankfully I was starting to get to the point where I could freaking climb walls from lack of not being able to do stuff). So getting there.

The fun part is I have absolutely no clue where I am going to be at the end of May and thus what 10k I'll use for that last qualifier attempt. So I am just staring at the racing calendar going 'Well I could maybe run this race if I am in this state.' But if I am not there. Hoping to be back in Colorado because I would love to to run the Boulder to Boulder. It's a bit of a shot to try and make the jump to C. But having all ready lost 30 pounds (and by end of May that number will be higher) since my last 10k will also help with the attempt I think no matter where I end up running.

I tend to always resubmit. I think "what can it hurt?" My own personal experience with trackshack would suggest that they factor in not just time when choosing to place you in a corral. If that is indeed the case, then showing that you are still training and bettering your time...if even for a slight bit, it might weigh in your favor. And if you are close to that cut off... you might need it. I had one race that my POT would have suggested a sub 2:30..but just barely. Rather than give me a projected finish time of less than 2:30 I was given a time of just over 2:30 and that bumped me to the next corral.

So how long would a shuttle take to Disneyland area hotels if I left LAX around 3pm? My plane lands at 2:30 on Thursday and I need to make sure I have time to check-in and get to the expo before it closes at 8pm for my 5k bib. I'm a WDW expert, but haven't been to DL since I was 12.

I would assume an hour's drive depending on the shuttle.

I personally like Karmel Shuttle because they don't "troll" the airport looking for other people to pick up. They might have other people *scheduled*, which is a different thing than what Super Shuttle (and others) can do. Was once on SS at Ontario airport in So Cal and I thought we were leaving the airport about to hit the road, and we turned right back into the airport so he could see if he could pick up more passengers. :headache: Karmel doesn't do that.

Looking for a bib for the 5K!

Anyone come across an agency who has one? Please let me know. :)

Thanks!

Alice

It seems to be that way. My friend and I are extremely excited we are huge Stitch fans and the fact that this race is almost definitely Stitch themed is cause for serious excitement for the two of us.

I'm really hoping that's the Dumbo medal for this coming year because the logo is gorgeous. And a really nice surprise if it is! They don't usually change it that much outside of the anniversary years but I sure am not complaining.

I'm not a huge stitch fan, but I am excited not to have a duplicate medal, so I'm good if this is true!

Does anyone think this is their thing now? Changing the medal every year?

I heard that rumor. They were addressing the complaint of people running for the same medal every year. But I don't have actual confirmation of that.

It's really more of an observation. It looks like W&D changed 2 years in a row and now this. Only time will tell I guess.

I still haven't booked airfare for this race yet and am starting to get a bit panicky. Think fares will keep going up or do I still have time for them to come back down a bit first?

Airfares traditional remain high until after Labor Day since that is the unofficial end to summer. You will probably find cheaper fares into LAX or San Diego vs. Orange County.

thanks, I will check both of them out :thumbsup2

Not the cheapest of options, but I used gosedan on my recent trip. They meet you at baggage claim and take you directly to your hotel.

Hint: When I booked it was $20 cheaper to go to my hotel directly across from the park than it was to book a trip "To Disneyland".

i am really disappointed about the Stitch theme (if that is the theme). I am not a fan of Stitch. And he's already ALL OVER the TOT 10-miler stuff. There are way too many characters and rides to have him featured twice. I think they should use rides as themes too. How cool would a Space Mountain themed medal be?

Very cool theme! But ToT is east coast and this is west... a lot of us like Stitch too - I am glad I get to have him on a medal as well (I hope!) :thumbsup2

For supershuttle right? Yes, use the name of the hotel when booking, I believe, for it to be cheaper.

Pretty much this. With the timing and stuff I have been yet able to swing the ToT race (which sucks because Tower of Terror is one of my favorite rides). So to have a race themed after Stitch much closer to home and easier to access even if its just for one year makes me a happy camper.
