Official 2014 Disneyland Dumbo Double Dare, Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k Thread!

i am really disappointed about the Stitch theme (if that is the theme). I am not a fan of Stitch. And he's already ALL OVER the TOT 10-miler stuff. There are way too many characters and rides to have him featured twice. I think they should use rides as themes too. How cool would a Space Mountain themed medal be?

I'm not a big Stitch fan either, and I LOVE Alice, so I'm pretty disappointed I missed out there. We're still going to wear out Alice inspired race outfits though. I love the rides as themes idea!

But hey, I'll just to happy to get some RunDisney bling of any description :thumbsup2

The pessimist in me wonders if re-using the Stitch theme is somehow a cost saver for them. Left over course decorations or whatever....

From when? I can't remember them having Stitch as a theme for another of the Disneyland races? And I mean the ToT stuff is in Florida I can't exactly see them wanting to ship all that stuff around either.

Especially since it would be themed to ToT and not Disneyland... :confused3 A TON of people LOVE Stitch. I'm really surprised he is ending up like the Epcot dragon (who I don't like personally... :rotfl2:). Are Princesses, the Fab 5, Yeti's and food themed races also off the table? Can Tink and the Avengers now never see the light of day in Florida? There is still a huge split of west vs east coasters... I don't think anything should be off the table for either one. :surfweb:

I bit the bullet and booked our flights today! August 25-31st DTW-SNA. I feel so relieved - that was causing me ridiculous amounts of stress. I also booked us a rental car because the rate was only $126 for a full-size for the week and that's cheaper than all the cabs I figured we'd need to be taking.

So now I can focus on the running.

I think Disney prefers not to duplicate themes so they can keep things fresh and attract quiet a bit of attention to each race. So unless the races switch coasts all of a sudden I don't think one coast is suddenly going to start getting the other coasts themes. Hell the Disneyland Half theme technically doesn't even have a character its just kind of this strange blank slate. And I really hope they don't start switching coasts because I kind of like the themes we have out here in California.

I mean like Florida's themes just fine. And I have done every one of their weekends except for Tower of Terror (continues to drive me nuts since I love that ride) and Expedition Everest (50-50 chance I might go next year with a friend if they keep it despite the rumors). I just want the races to stay where they are.

Sorry. But even though I'm technically stuck in the middle of the country for me its a lot easier and lot less expensive to make trips out to California for their races then it is to go to Florida for their races. And being a huge Avenger fan and having a soft spot for Tink (plus having run each three years) I really don't like the thought of the races getting moved around and messing with my life.

I'm right there with you, Flight's booked, Hotel Booked, Car Booked, now I'm just waiting for the Disney Dining 60 day window to open so I can book a few of those.

Me too! We finally booked out flights last night :cool1: Accommodation is booked, tickets purchased. We're all set for the DLR part of our trip :thumbsup2

Speaking of Disney dining. It's funny because my Mom keeps asking about booking my 'birthday dinner' (my birthday is the Tuesday after the race, running the half/Dumbo has become a tradition to celebrate my birthday) and I keep having to remind her that we have to wait until July!

I had this particular conversation at least three different times. Twice involving when I was trying to book a meal for the 24 hour part at Disneyland. And once when we were discussing me booking for the Wine and Dine!

Still need to book flights. Should probably get on that. :) Only having been to WDW it's weird to not really have put much thought into dining yet. What restaurants are you guys looking to hit up while at DL?

For me, no trip to Disneyland is complete without a meal at the Blue Bayou.

I'm also planning to pay a visit to the Carthay Circle Restaurant

What restaurants are you guys looking to hit up while at DL?

The only ones I plan to book are Blue Bayou (lunch at 11:30am), Storytellers Cafe (character breakfast) and WOC Dining at Carthay. Oh, and possibly a Fantasmic! dessert package for my birthday, but that doesn't count as a meal right?

We'll be there for nearly 2 weeks all up, so 3 (or 4) bookings isn't that much. Still wondering what to do for breakfast/brunch after the 10k run though...

Steakhouse 55 has somehow become a post-race tradition somewhere along the way. And I don't know how. So I probably will book it.

Blue Bayou and Storytellers (which we also like) will also end getting booked at some point during the weekend. Just not sure when we will book when. Just know that I will probably be eating take out from Carolina's (local Italian joint) most of Saturday, if not Friday because I am post bariatric getting more carbs is going to be a bit more of a finesse process. Not complaining glad I got the surgery just makes the thought process of eating carbs before the races a little more thoughtful.

Hey someone else who is celebrating their birthday that weekend! Mine's technically the Tuesday after the race but it's become a race tradition for me to celebrate it with running the race. When's yours?

If your looking at something light before Fantasmic! package Cafe Orleans has a really good French Onion soup and some sandwiches. You could get something to eat their before going to the package. And then your in the same area too. And they take reservations so that's a plus.

Thanks for the tip! Cafe Orleans sounds great :thumbsup2

My birthday is actually not until 14th September. We're doing a road trip for the week straight after the run, then returning to DLR for another week afterwards :goodvibes

As always, I plan on dining at Club 33 a couple of times during our DL visit.

...please make the following substitutions:

"plan on" = "dream about"
"a couple of times" = "just once"
"our" - "ANY!"

;)

Lol. I was lucky enough to dine at club 33 last year. It was lovely!

Definitely hoping to eat at Blue Bayou and probably do Carthay Circle for the. WOC deal. Also want to go to Trader Sam's(think that's the right name) but I hear that gets pretty crowded. Might be solo too so that sometimes dictates how I dine.

I'm celebrating my birthday that weekend too ;) Part of why I decided to splurge on one night at the DLH even though I'm local.

If Trader Sam's gets busy, might I suggest going to Napa Rose Lounge & Bar at the Grand Californian Hotel instead. Quieter atmosphere and delicious food/drinks. Or if you're already at the DLH, Steakhouse 55 also has a Lounge & Bar. GCH also has the Hearthstone Lounge & Bar in the hotel lobby for your enjoyment. :)

Totally agree with this. Between the bread they give you there and just a few appetizers and drinks...good day. :)
