Official 2014 Disneyland Dumbo Double Dare, Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k Thread!

I am sorry to post this because I am sure it's already been mentioned before but can anyone give any advice/recommendations for staying on/off property for the race weekend. It being a holiday weekend I am sure it's best to book in far advance. Thank you

We stayed at the Holiday Inn. It isn't too far from the resort and has a free shuttle running almost all day & night.

We're staying at the hojo because I got a good rate and they have a nice kids water play area. Plus they have free parking and I don't have to worry about whether or not I will find a parking space as they have plenty.

The Sheraton on Harbor, Marriott and Hilton are all walking distance from the race start

Yeah, I suppose I could have guessed the "get there earlier" option would be the correct choice. Thanks for the information.

Not just getting there earlier would be there if your worrying about getting swept. If you've never been at the front of the corral when its started there is nothing quiet like that feeling when the corral breaks and there is nothing but clear road in front of you instead of a sea of runners. You will also get lot going a lot faster and a lot easier if you can get close to the corral front. I learned that at this years Tinker Bell. I will be doing it at this years Dumbo again.

How long before race time would you plan to arrive at the corral in order to secure a place at/near the front?

I've had good luck with the Park Vue Inn, Desert Inn, and Best Western Park Place. All three are closer to the main gates of Disneyland than the Grand Californian (but .7 Mile'ish from the corrals) and as others have noted around 1/3 the cost.

Is it safe to assume we will be able to cross the esplanade and downtown Disney early in the morning on race day in order to reach the corrals from the east side of the property?

Good question.

I myself have been looking at maps (along with doing math while running, race maps as compared to hotels in the area really tax my brain) and wondering what roads will be open for getting to the corrals, are the corrals north of the start, and what about one of the motels up near/above Ball? Not that I *want* to stay up there, but it does seem close-ish.

And what about those who drive in? Where is the parking for the Half?

I've stayed at the Hojos for almost all of the DL races I've done. Yes, you can cross the esplanade and walk through Downtown Disney. There may be security there. For the DL half, you make a right turn at the ESPN Zone and the staging area is in the parking lot on the left. From there its a short walk to the corrals in Disneyland Drive.

Thanks for the info on the esplanade!

I know on a normal early early morning it's open, but did not know for a race early early morning.

Has anyone ever stayed at the Hyatt? It looks good online but I've heard some interesting horror stories about Disneyland area hotels...

I don't know about the Hyatt (except watch for their parking rates), but what sorts of horror stories? Have you been reading tripadvisor? I swear the people there HATE Anaheim with a burning passion...

The Hyatt Orange County gets good reviews from those who like Hyatts. It's not luxury, but it is a good business class hotel.

But, it does not participate in the ART shared ride shuttles. As a result the "free" ART shuttle during the runDisney weekend may not help. The Hyatt shuttle is $5 pp per day and may not run early on race day. According to the hotel website, it is 1.4 miles to DL.

Another option, if you like Hyatt, is the new Hyatt Place, which is scheduled to open in "Summer 2014". It is on Harbor between Covention Way and Orangewood Ave. Maybe someone else can chime in on whether they have any chance to open before the DL Half.

So I just earned my way into the sub 3 hour corrals yesterday. The last ditch effort to get out of the last corrals before my surgery was a success. I ran my fastest 10k ever in 1:24. Which moves me out of the back end corrals and into the sub 3:00 corrals. So even if the 10k I am trying to make at the end of April ends up being a disaster I at least have this race to fall back on. Fingers crossed that doesn't happen though.

I kind of wish they had a medical exemption rule to the corral cut off. Because since this is surgery is weight loss surgery I am expecting another jump in time before Dumbo so I would like a chance to try to move up corrals again. I am missing a better part of a month-two months of training because of surgery. So that gives me a few weeks to get me a month and a half to "get my sea legs" back for running and find a 10k. Even less considering its near impossible to find 10ks in Chile. Anyway nothing I can do.

Hello Everybody! I ran my first half this weekend! (princess) I was waiting to finish that before I registered for the Disneyland Half and now I'm regretting it! I'll have to go through a Travel agent to get it done but I did earn a 3:15 corral placement for this race. I'm going to try to get a 10k in before then and get a better corral. This will be my first trip to Disneyland and I'm pretty excited!

Do you specifically want to do the Disneyland half or are you just trying to get your C2C medal? I only ask because if you don't care which race you do, you might want to sign up for the new Avengers 1/2 instead. You won't need to worry about going through a travel agent or anything. :)

Has anyone stayed at the Carousel Inn before??

I personally didn't enjoy my stay there, but plenty of others like it. And my stay was a few years back.

And the reasons for me not enjoying it were a specific set of circumstances that probably wouldn't happen again, but it was the lack of response from the employees that bothered me the most. But again, the circumstances probably wouldn't happen to someone with better luck than I have. :)

On the other hand, after the Half (or like me after a long solo day), just try to not take a ridiculously hot shower for half an hour, just in case their smoke detectors are still set so they pick up *steam* as smoke. :upsidedow
