Official 2013 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Thread

How is the Candlelight? Is it worth it to watch? I was talking to my dad about a week ago about the trip and he asked me why I was going 8/9 when we'd all be going in 2 weeks and I just laughed. I told him I wanted to get pics and be able to actually be able to walk around the park and be able to get on some rides. :rotfl2: I really excited for my sister to see the changes in the parks and her bf to see the parks for the 1st time, but if we get on 15 rides total in the 2 days, honestly, I'll be happy.

Candlelight is wonderful and really gets you into the Christmas spirit. We've done it for about 8 years or so. The music, the lights, choir, reading all taking place in Town Square. For me it doesn't get better than that. We've also have seen it different ways. We used to pay $$$ to get a seat after a nice dinner but it was harder to do and some years they don't offer that. The past few years we've been standing in front of the fire station or Showcase/Mad Hatter area to view.

Your smart going earlier to get photos--it will be a zoo unless rain hits. We always get the "your going again strange look" . If you just don't LOVE DL it may seem like a lot of visits. But hey.....we're Bay Area locals. We're just on the 5 for longer than OCers. :rotfl:

I would be thrilled to BE ABLE to get on 15 rides on two days. We don't come close to that in 4 days....unless you count the Main Street Vehicles. It's really hard with a little mouseketeer.

Thanks for the "food guide" Vicky and Kim. Sounds like Marri's is a must for my pasta meal on Friday evening. I looked at a menu and it is just what I have on mind for that evening in terms of selection and price. :thumbsup2.

I know some here on the DIS set up WISH meets for the WDW events; are there any such get togethers in CA for thoses races? Sounds like Marri's would be perfect.....

3 questions as I am new ro running
1) what are WISH meets
2) what is tema WISH (mentioned in another post)
3) why do you eat pasta on the Friday night and not Sat

WISH meets are just when a group of people from the WISH section of the boards decide to meet....usually at WDW during a race.

Team WISH, I believe, is a term for the group of people who identify themselves as WISHers-it seems to me to be a very inclusive group.

I plan to eat carbs on Friday night as the current belief seems to be that carbo loading 36 hours out has more impact than the night before. Certainly eating pasta the night before won't hurt you, but is more of a tradition than anything else. Truth be told I will likely have leftover pasta Saturday evening as well.

Good luck with your running!

Thanks maybe I will take some pasta salad with me on the plane Friday night. And then go out to lunch on Sat instead of dinner for more pasta

Appreciate the help

Yes...there are definietly W.I.S.H. meet ups at the DL races. We had a nice size one last year for Tink and I'm sure there will be a couple this year too. It's nice to meet everyone in person.

Good idea about Marri's !!!! Again, don't let the strip mall atmosphere fool you. I think the food is great, and really nice employees too.

Okay admittedly this is probably not the best place to ask but I figured you guys may know the answer. Mom's at Disney resort but does not have park tickets (Mom's not a park goer and she's there with a friend's dad for a convention). However she is craving a Mickey ice cream bar. Is it impossible to get one of those bars in the resort without actually entering the parks? Thanks in advance!

Also Mom being the lucky person she is spotted what I think is three of the feral cats sleeking around the parking lot near one of the hotels. Were not 100 percent sure but she did spy three different cats moving in and out between cars in the parking lot. And the only thing I could think of is that they were probably part of Disneyland's feral cat population. I was jealous, I've always wanted to see one of the cats.

Check at White Water Snacks at the Grand Caifornian for ice cream bars. They should have at least the Mickey head ice cream sandwich, but not sure of a Mickey on a stick. Also check out the Tongoroa (sp?) Terrace at DL hotel, in the cold grab and go ice cream area, at Paradise Pier the gift shop.
Hope this helps.
There are so many cats in and around DL and DCA you will run into them now and then.

Just wanted to say thanks! Mom was able to get one at White Water Snacks.

But for the short minute that I ran into you on Monday after DL, he was absolutely adorable!!

I know a lot of people don't get the disney emails, but just got 1 for Tink. More general stuff than specific, but if you didn't get 1 and want it, pm me w/ your email address and I can forward it to you.

No email for Tink so I'll PM you. Thanks you always help me out with that :)

Did you hear they canc. the NY Marathon? I feel so bad for runners. It's just a bad situation all around.

No worries! And just emailed the email to you.

Yeah, I heard about the race. I think it was horrible they waited until 5pm NY time, on Fri, to make the announcement. After they said Fri morning that they were still going to do it and all the international people flying all that way, just one big mess. Now I'm waiting to see what they decide to do for next year, b/c I'm supposed to be a guaranteed entry for next year. This week will definitely be interesting!

Have you booked air for Princess yet? Not sure if it works for your weekend or not or compared to SWA, but got an email from Virgin out of SFO and they have flights to MCO for $179, nonstop, leaving around 9:30 or so and getting in around 5:30. And they have tvs in the seats in front of you.

Thanks for the Tink email.

That will be interesting to see how they handle all the NYC runners. I wonder if they will make special accomodations and guaranteed entry for next year? Then if so what will happen to runners like you who will also have a spot next year?

We booked our flights for Princess months ago when SWA schedule became available. Used points and booking early the $$$ was low out of SFO. Not non-stop but at least we don't have to change planes and a layover. It's going to be a long day regardless.

If you see any deals for car rentals please let me know. I not getting any deals at all and I'm using every discount that I can use and I'm still not happy with the quotes I'm getting.

So this is what I've gathered from FB posts about next year ~ this year's runners have guaranteed entries for next year, but there is a question about whether the international runners are in as well(which is kind of even worse, b/c some traveled a long way), BUT, they all have to pay reg fee again ($248 this year). That, is just horrible. I get that it says on all regs that races have that it's nonrefundable, but at least give a discount. And the runners are getting antsy, b/c there have been no FB posts by NYRR and nothing on their website since the announcement. Aside from the "we're good people, here's a pic of runners volunteering." And the ironic thing is that I got my issue of Runner's World yesterday and there's an ad for signing up for the lotto for next year's race. It'll be interesting to see how long this all drags out and what happens for next year. Although, I also saw an ad for Expedition Everest too and that race looks like so much fun and the TOT race as well, so maybe if I'm out for NY next year, I'll do those instead.

As for car discounts... I know SW offers cars, don't know if you can use points for those. I know 1 of them, either Hertz or Enterprise offer AAA discounts, and kayak has a car section. Not sure how their prices are though. Which hotel did you guys decide to stay at that weekend?

And random side note, saw on the DL side they're doing some sort of contest for APs and the Candlelight Processions. They said more info will be coming out on the 12th.

I'll check out Kayak. So far Enterprise has the best deal...if you can call it a deal. :rotfl: We're staying at the Caribbean Beach resort (Thurs-Weds). We've stayed there years ago and thought the pool area would be fun for the little mouseketeer.

I also saw the Candlelight "info" :rotfl: on another site. I don't think they have a clue how this is going to work this year. Did you notice there are no dining options. I'll try and "win" a spot for Monday night but if not we will stand like last year. Now it looks like we're heading down either Friday night or Saturday early morning.

Thanks for the Tink email.

Ditto. Thanks!
I got so excited the other day because u saw an email about Tink, BUT it turned out to be a GET travel email, not RunDisney. :(

Costco has some really great pricing on car rentals. You can check it online. Costco travel.

I FINALLY had one of those fantastic runs...the one where you don't intend to go but a few miles but it feels so good that you keep going? 9.5 miles later.....WOOT!:thumbsup2

On a less enthusiastic note, I went to both the Nike and Lululemon outlets today in search of running tights/pants/whatever and found diddlysquat. Apparently I need to be tall, skinny, and not mind super thin pants to shop there. I need to take a field trip to Title 9 and Rei and find a pair.....
