Official 2012 Wine and Dine ½ Marathon Thread

I was just checking park hours and making ADR's for next weekend and I noticed that Magic Kingdom has evening EMH's on Saturday and Sunday? 3am and 1am, respectively? Holy cow!

They usually do this to make up for the nights people are kicked out of MK for the Christmas party.

So I was reading a blog from someone on the princess thread and I've read so many great race reports from the princess that it really makes me want to run one! Was wondering if you guys have seen any good W&D race reports.... I'd love to see more about it from people who have been there, done that! :cool1:

If you are interested in seeing what the race looks like you can search youtube and find some awesome videos of the race. I always watch those the week before I head to a Disney race. Here is a blog post about last years race:

Plutobaby - go drink some OJ and sleep from now until race day to knock out those germs! Plus... postive thinking.... you are not getting sick... you are not getting sick.... you are not getting sick.....:wizard:

I am hoping for race temps in the 50's. I know that may seem chilly to some, but I have found I run better and have better chip times when it is cooler. And being a hot sweaty mess for character photos is no fun.

I'm another lover of cool temps.

Just came home from my last long run before the race. I did 11.26 miles with the ending temp at 57 degrees. However, I ran in short sleeves and pants whereas I want to run in shorts for the race so low 60s would be fine with me. ::yes::

Started running at 3:30 pm, and that's the latest run I've done. However I'm hoping my Pacific time zone setting will give me a slight edge on the 10 pm start. We fly in on Friday and I'm planning to push myself to stay awake and active a little late in the evening. It'll be a tricky balance since my DH and DDs have races in the morning.

Zinc and lots of fluids! Get it now before it really works its way in !

At Disney right now... Temp a nice 62 degrees at race time. Feels great outside!

Anyone ever use foot pads for ball of foot pain while running? Just developed this and it is oh so annoying! Worried it will be REALLY painful during the latter half of the race....

AND...has anyone used Aleve instead of ibuprofen? I know ibuprofen is a no no, but what about aleve....tylenol doesn't do much for me....

Spenco Polysorb insoles are amazing. Is the ball of your foot getting numb then turning into sharp pain each time it hits? I had that (mortons neuroma) so badly in my right foot that I had to have surgery. I can feel the left foot flare up on long runs but the inserts have really helped tame the pain. I have also suffered with PF and the insoles have helped a ton with that as well.

i've never checked a bag at a race before...is the bag check before getting on the bus or after? i don't want to be cold waiting for everything but don't want to carry a sweatshirt.:confused3

I'm going to try and get 3 miles in today. I've been battling a cold this past week, so I haven't done any training since my 14 mile run last Friday night. I think the worst part is over though and hopefully I'll be good to go come race day. Leaving Monday morning.

Bag check is at the start before you get in the corrals. It should be pretty obvious. When you go to the expo there is usually a big map of what to expect so you can get a better idea of where the bag check is. I will be honest, I have not looked at any of the emails they sent out for the race, so not sure exactly where it is this year. There will be a time listed on the "program" of when bags need to be checked by. In order to avoid a line, don't wait until the very last minute, but even if you do, you should still have time to get to your corral.

Bag pick up last year ran very smoothly. You will have placed a number on your bag (they give you both at registration) that matches your bib number and I believe it had a last name initial. You will pick up your bag then based on this. I get all my races confused, so I can't remember if disney goes by numbers or initials. Someone else can probably clarify this.

Anyhow, last year we only waited a few minutes to drop off our bag and just a minute or so to pick it up at the finish. It ran very smoothly and we were quite impressed. The first year bag check was a disaster, so this is something they definitely improved.

Don't stress it really is pretty simple. :)

You could also consider bringing a throw away shirt if it is before the race and just tossing it (out of the way of course) once the race starts. This is pretty common. :)

I ran 6 cold miles in the rain today. Unfun, but done! :) Ready for the race!

Agree, was very easy to check your bag at the princess. I would recommend wearing something you don't mind "donating" to Disney. I keep a bag of sweatshirts etc that I don't mind losing for this purpose.

Was able to get in a cold 7 today bringing this weeks total to 15 - might be all I get this week, so it will have to do! Haven't skipped on any other training weeks, so I think I'll be ok. Trust my training, trust my training!
