Official 2012 Wine and Dine ½ Marathon Thread

Leaving hotel yesterday at Disney, I literally laughed out loud as well passed the McDonald's were the Mcflurry was purchased.

One thing is certain, that was a steep hill to get back on the course. Not sure I am crazy enough for a Mcflurry.

Maybe the McFlurry challenge will work for this race...:scratchin

Friday afternoon can't come soon enough!

Friday afternoon can't come soon enough!

Tell me about it! Is it Friday yet???

I have a dilemma for you W&Ders to help me with please!

My left shin/calf is feeling sore and tight today. :worried: I ran saturday and stupidly did a really hard hill workout. I had shin splints back in July but new shoes took care of that. In Sept, I had this same soreness after my first 9.5 mile distance and it went away in a few days with rest and stretching and icing. But that was September. Now it's Monday and the race is saturday. I was planning on running 5 tonight and 3 wednesday and then done til the race. Should I wait until tomorrow and do 3 Tues and 3 Thurs instead hoping that things clear up by tomorrow? Or what else would you suggest? I've only gotten up to 11 miles twice, no 13+ LRs for me thanks to previous setbacks. This is my first half but I've been running consistently for nearly 18 months.

Sigh.... training has always stressed me out. I am looking forward to the actual RACE! :thumbsup2

This is going to be a l-o-n-g week for sure! ::yes::

Looking forward to seeing everyone soon!

I would take it easy for the rest of the week and just do your two short runs. No need to aggravate things any more. :goodvibes Have you ever tried Zensah compression sleeves? I had some shin pain recently and I have been wearing them for a couple of hours a day and my legs feel so much better. I have worn them for short runs but they are too hot for me to wear during a race. It is very easy at this stage to worry about all the things that you WISHed that you have done -- forget that! Just remember how strong you are and how much fun you are going to have! :hippie:

In my shock over my shin pain this morning I almost forgot to share with you all the other part of my taper anxiety.... :rotfl: only my DIS WISHers would get this:

I had a dream that when I met up with my DH after the race I asked him to show me the runner tracking texts so I could see my splits. I'm not sure why I asked him for this because I have a garmin and will know where I am during the race, but anyway it's a dream. So he hesitated and said, "well, hon, the thing is..." and i grabbed his phone and the texts were all garbled and the timing was WAY off (like, 20 min for 10k - LOL!) and then at the end it said, "unable to track runner. No time registered. Race not completed." And it turned out that my chip wasn't working and they didn't give me any credit for running the race at ALL! As I was waking up, I think I was just starting to try to find a race official and see if they would accept my garmin timing. I was so upset!

I think it's because I'm paranoid about the instructions in the race guide that talk about not bending or manipulating the chip in the bib b/c I'm used to using the bottom of my shirt to wipe my face occasionally and I'm worried I'll mess up the bib.

I really should have taken everyone's advice and run some sort of race before this one.... ::yes:: Oh well too late now!

Well I remember reading everyone's sickness issues a couple days ago and hoping against it. I can say for sure that my sore throat as become a full blown cold. Feeling lucky at least that it's hitting now instead of 4 days from now. Trying to make sure I don't spread it to family members. Glad I got most of the packing done this weekend.

Oh, race anxiety dreams! I never have exam dreams anymore. :rotfl: One of my WISH friends did have a chip malfunction during the Donald one year -- it stopped working after the 5k mat. They were able to use her finish line photo so don't worry too much about that because there is a way to fix it.

runDisney just tweeted a few minutes ago saying nearly 14,000 runners are registered for the Half. I bet I will be the only Belle. :rolleyes1

I leave in three days. Can't wait to see you all and meet everyone in person!

You're just having race nightmares NOW?? Heck, I've been having them since I registered back in April? May?:scared1:::yes::

Can I ask about the McFlurry thing? Now you've got me wondering...:confused3

Oh! Food question!:cake: Planning on going out for Italian Thursday night and hitting up the Brown Derby Friday, (more than likely chicken). Saturday, we're thinking of pasta for lunch around noon-1ish, and then something like a turkey sandwich and salad around 5pm. I have honey stingers for during the race and the honey stinger waffle thingies. Suggestions as to when I should chow on them? Half before start, earlier...????:confused3

I had them back in the summer when I first registered but they subsided for a while. Now they are back!

I think there's a mcdonalds not far off the course that some runners sometimes pull off and get a mcflurry there. Not me. No way. I'm getting to that finish line and done as fast as I can (which is really, not very fast at all. :rotfl2:)

lexst - can't believe you are AT disney already. So jealous.

I'm thinking my taper plan maybe should have included a couple of 6 mile walk days around the parks instead of sitting at home trying to get anything accomplished at work. :badpc: :hyper:

Oh how I LOVE:love: those Oreo ones!! I think a quick stop at the Rose and Crown for a chocolate milk (aka Bailey's) is a better idea simply because it's so much closer to the finish!:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

Accomplishing stuff at work? Now?? OMG....:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Around mile 2.5, there is the McDonald's near the All Stars. A WISHer decided to stop off and get a McFlurry. I think it was sort of an homage to the full marathoners stopping off and riding Expedition Everest during their race over marathon weekend.

Leaving for the airport in a few minutes. Good luck to everyone and I hope to see you at the race Saturday night.

Good luck getting through the rest of this week with no anxiety, bad dreams or sickness! I am so excited! I wish I were leaving tomorrow! I'm leaving Thursday morning, though.

Left calf/ankle feel very right. Hoping that calms down some.

Do any of you have any tips on how to secure Minnie ears (the headband kind) for a race?

Thanks!
