Official 2012 Wine and Dine ½ Marathon Thread

For people who have done this race before, which miles are the most dead? (in terms of entertainment and things to see). I'll be running this one alone and I'm already building a playlist for if I have to break out the iPod (never did at DL, but I had a friend with me). I can usually zone out after the first hour, but that first part is tough, mentally.

The first long stretch from WWoS to AK, but the course is still full of people and the race just started so there is lots of adrenaline.

Then crossing that stretch again to go to Hollywood Studios (in the opposite direction) is a bit of a kill joy.

I agree that these are the least interesting. I do say that the lack of spectators cheering during the race is more than made up for with the great after party. Not to mention being able to sample the food and wine offerings the next day.

Joining in late here. Real life has not left much time for the DIS in a while. Can't wait to run this race!! I've ran the EE and the princess, looking forward to adding this to my disney runs.
Anyone that did this last year have info on the after party?
Is there an area kids can stay at while parents run?
Are there a lot of character opportunities at the after party?
Did you feel the after party was crowded and what time did it seem to clear out more?

Sorry if this has already been covered, I've tried searching through and no luck in a short amount of time.

Happy training everyone.:)

Granted I haven't done this run before but I've never heard of a kids area for any of the races. Now I don't have kids, so it just may be that I've never looked for any. Might be helpful to watch the video's on the rundisney website - seem to show what the after party is like.

Weekend report time! Beautiful here in Central Va meaning I got a great run in this am - seeing other runners training for another half out and about really motivated me! Also got in a night run earlier in the week, think I might try to do one every so often to test what/how much I can or can not eat during the day. How about everyone else - how's your training going? Only 7 more long weekend runs is the way I look at it :)

Really looking forward to my first night race. Has anyone been doing their training runs at night? That is my goal in the next few weeks...run at least two long runs in the evening. Good luck training everyone....we will be in FL soon!

I don't suppose if I call the IRUN number and tell them I've booked 4 nights (though on two ressies...first night room only, next 3 with free dining) and did it via the website, that I could still get that duffle bag, huh? Because if what they showed in the email is what people are getting, I really want that. :worried:

Well, to be honest, my 9.5 mile run this morning has me wondering what the heck I'm doing in this race! It was fine until about 7.5 and still ok ( but not great) at 8 and then the last mile and a half kicked my you know what! I have know idea how I'll do 13. I finished but as I was running I was repeating that dead last is better than did not finish which is better than did not start mantra to just feel better about anything.

Lessons learned: 1. respect the training plan, including xt. For me, I really need to keep up with my PT exercises for my knee or it gets weak and painful. I'd been slacking off there due to some other health issues and my mileage and xt dropped last two weeks. I felt that today! 2. No pizza! I tend to forget about watching what I eat the night before a run because 90% of my runs are done at 6pm or later.... Oops.

I hope everyone else's training is going well!

I think we all have those runs - wouldn't you rather have them while training and learn then during the actual race? My last long one before the princess was from hades, but i knew the next one (which was the actual race) would have to be better! Kudos to your 9.5, not quite there yet but did the 6.2 at my 10K pace, so know I can get better with 7 weeks to go.

Looks like I missed something somewhere...what are the duffle bags you're talking about?

Please tell about the duffle bags. I am pretty sure I am on a package now, but like mk624, I have one night room, and then three night free dining package. Please send the link to show us the duffles. TIA

The Wine & Dine email I got Friday said this....

Each Guest who books through 407–WDW–IRUN and registers for a four (4) or more night stay at a select Walt Disney World® Resort hotel during the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend will receive one souvenir keepsake gift, a runDisney duffle bag.

This was the image next to that bit...

I don't know if that is the exact duffle bag they are giving away...if it is, I would love one.

Thanks for the clarification! Those are really nice but we won't qualify. We're only staying 2 nights before heading out for a cruise. Couldn't think of a better way to recover from training! :) Hope you can get the bag!

Good evening everyone,

I've been lurking for a while and decided to jump introduce myself. We were at Disney last February during the Princess and I decided "I want to do that!". The best part of seeing everyone with their Princess medals was it was so inclusive ... young, old, skinny, chubby. EVERYONE!

So at 46 I looked into it. The Galloway program was the key that made it manageable. Started with 2 run/1 walk but decided 1:15 run/ :45 walk works best.

Only had one nightmare about the sweeper bus.

Signed up for the Adirondack Half on 9/23 for with the idea it would be a long run for training. Hoping for a cloudy, 65 degree day. Longest run is 9 (once) .. 2:05. Figure I can crawl the last 4 miles, I just want to finish.

I've enjoyed reading everyone's progress and perseverance!

Can't wait to RUNDisney!

Well, I can't believe I did 9.5 today and I felt better than the 8. (fatigue wise) I could actually go and do some errands afterward. And, I did the 9.5 in the same time as my 8 miles - 2:12. Totally surprised and wasn't expecting that or even trying. It must be the cooler weather. THANK GOODNESS for cooler temps!

Anyhoo, my tummy has totally been out of sorts since finishing the run. Within 5 min. of stopping, I started feeling sick. I've never experienced this before. I felt great, as I wasn't as tired as my 8, but boy, has my tummy been messed up.

Anybody else have tummy issues with long runs? Any advice? At this rate, I'm going to have to have some pepto in my bag after the race.

Are you eating anything during your runs? I was having some serious nausea and other GI issues with sports beans. I switched to honey stingers and they are helping. I am also trying to drink less sports drink to cut back on sugar.

Hey, thanks for the reply. No, I was not eating, nor have I eaten during a run. Just water. I had eaten breakfast 3 hours before. Just cheerios. My hubby had a granola bar for me, but I was not hungry. I just drank a little water as needed, but even looking back, I didn't drink much. Just didn't want anything on my tummy. I don't do shots or beans, etc. - I've heard they can make people have tummy issues. My hubby does the honey and offered me one, but I didn't feel I needed it. Felt great during run. Less fatigue than my previous 8. I thought I was on top of the world. Within 5 min of stopping, my tummy issues hit. Maybe I do need to eat or take the honey.

Over the summer I vowed that I would never again do an early fall race if it meant 10-13 mile runs in August. I can't wait to run in 20 degree weather again!
I've had stomach problems on occasion. I don't eat during my runs and try not to eat at least an hour before I run and this has helped. It's also usually when I've been moving quickly, which it sounds like you were! :) It's usually just a little nausea that passes within an hour or so. You might want to track of what you ate before, during and immediately after your run so you can compare in the future.

I have had stomach issues before while running (and a generally finicky stomach/IBS). I make sure to avoid "heavy" foods the night/morning before (no grease or cream). This has helped tremendously.

Honey stingers cause me no problems at all. Just looking at Gu or gels makes my stomach turn:).
