Official 2012 Wine and Dine ½ Marathon Thread

How did people book travel for this race? We used get travel to stay at CBR and get tickets for 11/9-11/14, but now I'm wondering if we should cancel and book through the parks to get free dining? Also, we need rooms for 11/14-11/17 and I'm not sure where to go for those dates. We thought of maybe moving off property just to be different.

Our current package is 6 day tickets, 5 nights hotel at $1387.

What are other people doing for rooms and tickets?

Central reservations and the Disney travel people who book the sports packages have really limited availability at the host resorts, so if you're thinking of canceling call and check first to make sure they have your dates and they're rooms that the promotion covers. I've been trying to shift my dates to include Sunday night at rack rate and it's been a total pain.

I consider myself very lucky as my parents are DVC and I just "tag along" on the room. Flight was booked through air-tran when they had a crazy special a few months ago and tickets are through run-Disney. Free dining sounds tempting, but make sure to see if that cost (and what you'd actually use) offset any discounts on tickets, room, etc.

I used a travel agent. As soon as the free dining offer was made available, she modified my reservation so I receive it.

Welcome! I would love to have a 10 anything mile during the race. I'm following a schedule from runners world and my long run is only up to 5, but mid-week runs really ramp up this week. Its been so humid in VA which really impacts my time, but hopefully it's good conditioning. I really like the support ad knowledge of those on this board, so feel free to ask/contribute as much as possible. Someone's sure to benefit!

Oh, I couldn't do it for a whole race, by a long shot. That was just a timed "magic mile" from Jeff Galloway's training plan.

Also, to respond to others about where we're staying. We're staying off-site at a condo. We wanted a kitchen to be able to cook our own food and eat what we normally eat, so we could to be ready before and after race. I don't want to eat out and risk an upset tummy for the race. We usually just do two or three days at the parks and that's enough for us. Planning for parks on Monday and Tuesday. Sunday will be a rest day for sure!

Is anybody else staying off site? What are you doing for transportation to the race? I guess we'll just take a cab.

Oh, yes, you are so right about the humidity. Last Wed. was the worst. Even worse than July - for some reason. I've never sweated so much in my life and this was at 8:30/9 at night. My face, chest, and back were totally wet. I came back home and my husband said he'd never seen me *that* sweaty before. I wasn't sure how much more I could go on training like that. Thankfully, we got a cold front this weekend. It went down to upper 50's/low60's and yesterday morning was HEAVENLY for our timed magic mile and rest of workout. Now, if it would just stay cooler, that would give me much reassurance about the long runs coming up. 9.5 this weekend. I'm nervous. Never gone that far.

My friend and I booked a package to take advantage of free dining. We will be at ASMu 11/9 - 11/12 with 2 day base tickets...total was $733. I have a room only ressie for one night on the 8th because I am arriving the night before my friend does.

I know, I can't wait for my runs this week with it being so nice. I was so slow this weekend As the heat and humidity just hits me so hard. You will be just fine with the long run - just think of it as 3-3 milers!

Agreed! I'm glad in a way this summer is winding down - our 8 miler last week was hot and we had some confusion as to how far we needed to go down a new trail to get the mileage in - googlemaps said one thing, and there were TWO sets of markers that were different on the trail as well, plus we thought we would turn around at a set of bathrooms where we could get more water but instead found that would make us run a full half marathon to get there, lol! I did much better once we turned around but even at 9am it was HOT and super sunny (I don't do well when we run earlier than that). This weekend's high is 78 so we should be fine for temps! :thumbsup2

I also bought a new pair of shoes and did my 4 mile run in them last night... could someone offer me insight into whether I should return them or keep breaking them in? Its an update of my current shoes but I can feel the support running under my foot which I don't remember. The toe box also crinkled/folded in a way that rubbed one of my toes a little with every step - is that something that will soften as time goes on? I am guessing the pressure points on the bottom of my feet will get better in time as they are broken in at least?

I also have had some pain in my toe recently that is driving me batty - on my large right toe the stretch that happens when I push off is painful, some days it is worse than others. Its been this way for two weeks, and when it is at its worst I try to adjust and run more on the outside of my foot and that helps a lot since it doesn't stretch as far. With these new shoes though it was a VERY bad day though... even this morning as I was walking to work I can feel how painful/sore it is when it is stretched. What can I do about it...? :crazy2:

Just finished the Broadway Bridge 1/2 Marathon in Kansas City. Not bad considering that I haven't that distance since June's Hospital Hill 1/2 Marathon, and run for the first time in a month with a 5K on monday. PR'ed by 15 Minutes!!So pumped for Disney's Wine and Dine!!!!

Hey, just want to say congratulations on your PR by 15 min! That's so awesome!! Did you give yourself some kind of reward for that? I saw where you ran the Princess? How was it? I'm thinking about it. I know it will close soon, but I still haven't done my first, so not sure about signing up for another. Ha!

Yes, congrats on the PR - that's my goal for the Wine & Dine, but we'll see how the mood strikes me once I get down there!!

As for the Princess I thought it was a blast. It was honestly the reason I decided to do a Half - ie, if I was going to run somewhere, it would be DisneyWorld. At that point I had only run a 10K when I decided I was going to do the 2012 Princess. So I could have a "practice" Half under my belt I did the local one here in Richmond, and wouldn't you know it's been my best time out of all 3 I've done even though I had the worst head cold ever. But, it gave me a great qualifying time for the Princess (Corral C) which ended up being a little fast, but got me ahead of the crowds. Then I just kept up light running from the Princess to run the 10K in Richmond (again, had a head cold) and get a good qualifying time for the Wine & Dine half. Basically if you keep doing race after race you stay in shape, keep healthy and have a reason to keep going!

Finally, what I like about doing the Princess and the Wine and Dine is that you go a different route for each one and by the end, can say you've ran all 4 parks.

hi all, just wondering if anyone knows whether there will be buses to the expo from the ttc? thanks!

I don't think so. I think you would have to go to MK and take a bus to Pop, CB or All-Star then go to WWOS. .

Agreed! That's one of the reasons we decided to do a cruise the week prior - lots of rest time! :thumbsup2 I also started running with the C2C medal in mind! I wonder what will happen once I have it... I may do a race here and there but I am not sure how many more halfs it will be due to the time sink... I might become more of a 10K gal, lol!
I signed up for the Disneyland 1/2 this year for two reasons. I needed the motivation to get back in the gym after tax season ends and I knew that this could be the only year where I can do the C2C. At the end of my longer training sessions for the Disneyland 1/2, I was wondering why exactly I signed up for the Wine and Dine 1/2. My first 1/2 (2011 Disneyland) was a very challenging experience. It wasn't a bad experience, but it was very challenging. I honestly didn't enjoy the portion between the parks and Angels Stadium. But my second 1/2 again at Disneyland was a much more enjoyable experience.

You'll be fine. Just finish the run no matter how much you walk it. That's what helps build the endurance and sustaining a speed fast enough to finish the race. In training for the Disneyland 1/2, there were many Saturday mornings when I didn't want to do those long sessions and wondered physically if I could. But I kept going and fought through the initial soreness. There are times when training may not be that fun, but it's all worth it when you're going through the parks and getting that medal placed around your head after the finish.

I'm not sure what to advise you about your toe. If your new shoes make it worse, right off the bat, that can't be good. Maybe talk with the staff at the running store? I'm sorry I'm not more help. It's gotta heal or it's just going to keep doing the same thing or get worse. I don't think I could handle new shoes making it worse. I'd have to find some relief some how, some way.

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it! Good advice.

The Princess is a morning race, right? What time did you have to get up? I don't function on little sleep. I've heard of people getting up at 3:00/3:30 for a 5 a.m. start time. I am SOOOOOOOOO not a morning person and that's the whole reason why I signed up for a night race. I would really like that Princess medal and I'd like to do, like you said, "race after race" to stay in shape.

Yes, we were up at 3am, but I'm not a morning person either as I usually run after work. Think the energy of the race really helped get me moving and knowing that I have the day after I was done to have fun kept me moving. We honestly came back to the room, took showers, stuffed our face at Cape May, took a 2 hr nap, then kept going! Oh, and a good friend to encourage you was nice too :)

Think the hardest part was making ourselves go to bed at 7pm the night before and waking up at 9pm to fireworks from Epcot!

I don't know how you people do it getting up at 3 a.m.!!! That's the middle of the night. I'm in some serious REM sleep then! I don't know HOW y'all do it!!! I have to get sleep or I can't think straight. Guess it'll always be Wine and Dine for me. :(

Just signed up yesterday through GET Travel for the 1/2 and 5K! So excited to be doing this race again. Loved it last year! Also so happy they moved it so now I can see MVMCP and the Osborne Lights! See you all there!
