That is how it was handled last year. If you did not want to use your $10 gift card after the race, you could use it at any point. It is a standard gift card.
(The first year they gave us vouchers for 1 food product and 1 drink product that could only be redeemed during the after party. It was a FAIL.)

Well folks, we are getting close to 100 days until raceday. How is the training coming along?

I've been following the Galloway training plan and will be up to five miles this weekend.:cool1: Hope you are all doing well!:Tigger:

As long as we don't have any injuries I think we'll be just fine! :thumbsup2 We did our 5 miler on Monday and finished strong. So far its been way easier the second time around vs. the first! :dance3:

TigerTown - Trainings going ok thanks for asking.... :) It's a run day tonight and I can't wait for work to be done so I can get to it! I'm actually sitting here going over my training plan and Galloway's plan because we have a vacation coming up and I'm starting to realize that it is not going to be possible for me to get a 6.5 mile run in during it so I'm trying to shift some things around. I can fit it in 2 days after i'm supposed to, so I think that's what I might do.

Question (for anyone using Galloway): I've heard/read not to increase weekly mileage by more than 10%. But when using the Galloway training plan (beginners), you only add long runs every other week. So obviously every other week your mileage is decreasing and increasing by more than 10%. Any thoughts on this? I'm not doubting Galloway, but it made me stop and go "hmmm."

Have to admit I haven't started yet. The W&D is the same day as a big half here in Richmond Va, so coordinating runs with my training partner who's running that race. He's suffering through a pulled muscle and I'm fighting shin splints so we're easing into it. This will be my 4th half, but I want it to be my fastest!

Last weekend we did 8.5 miles and felt great (r/w, not equal intervals, just when we feel like it) We said we could have kept going :thumbsup2 But have to admit the following morning my feet really hurt. I guess I need to look into buying some new shoes sooner than later.

Anyone have running shoes that they love?

I llove my Mizuno wave creations ;) I had ankle surgery 2 years ago and they were the only shoe that provided enough shock absorbency in the heel.to not cause pain in my ankle. I've been running with them ever since. (5 pairs later ;))

I went on my long run while on our weekend trip to Lake McConaughy NE last weekend and made some "beginner" type mistakes even though I've been running over 10 years. I set out at 6:45 in the morning figuring I'd beat the heat. The clouds were covering when I began and it was a beautiful morning. I enjoyed the rolling dirt hills and views of the lake. But within 20 minutes the clouds opened up and it was blistering hot and dry. I had no water with me and was out in the middle of a virtually abandoned dirt rode. I saw a golf course in the distance and decided to run there, surely there must be water. About 10 minutes later I made it to the golf course SO THIRSTY.

I know I had to be thirsty because it was dreadfully embarrassing. I ran around for a little hoping to find a water fountain but there was none. I was clearly out of place. A bunch of well dressed uppity men were roaming about and made a point not to acknowledge me. I was very sweaty, had absolutely no make up on and had not even bothered to brush my hair before throwing it into a ponytail that morning. Finally I saw an elderly man come out of a door that said, "employees only". I think he was probably the owner. I asked him if there was a water fountain and he told me to go into the shop, request a plastic cup and fill up from the sink in the back. I had no money with me to even buy a bottled water and no phone to call for rescue. ;)

When I walked into the shop everyone proceeded to look at me in shock then cut in front of me in line without acknowledging me. The clerk never did make eye contact until I made my way to the plastic cups and asked for one. Any how I drank about 3 cups of water and got out of there. At least they were kind enough to hydrate me and keep me from shriveling up on the side of the hot rode. By the time I got back to our cabin I was just as thirsty as I'd been at the golf course.

I learned my lesson. Don't underestimate the sun and always carry water if you are running unfamiliar territory. I only got in 5 miles but had lots of hills and definite heat training!

I love my Saucony's but I'll need to see which model they are... I'll have to see if there is a name on them when I get home, I don't remember there being one! I am likely due for new shoes too since I bought these years ago. They still work though so... :confused3

I love my Nike Pegasus. Tried Brooks and honestly think they aggravated my shin splints. Bought the new models and love them!

Did anyone else receive a "Preparing for your Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend" email? It's says the after party is from 7pm to 4pm.. Maybe they added an extra hour, which is a good thing.

I have saucony progrid I want to say. They're wide and roomy and my toes no longer get bruised. I enjoy wearing them with my toe socks.

Training is going awesome because I'm running towards what I hope is a cool, crisp fall. Ooh please god let it be a cool crisp fall.

LOL! I agree on the cool crisp fall! This heat has been oppressive here in western MI!

I just got my email and read through it. The 4AM end time is interesting but I have a feeling I'm going to be so tired after the race I won't be able to enjoy the party without falling asleep. Lol

I'm glad that they extended they hours. I was so nervous that I wouldn't have time to take pictures with characters and still enjoy the festival afterwards. I am happy to have the time now!!!

Thats actually pretty cool. I probably should have ordered one but I guess it's too late now. Any idea if they will sell them at the race?
