Official 2012 Wine and Dine ½ Marathon Thread

Hi. Just posting to let everyone know I have a tower of terror tech shirt for sale on eBay. Size small.

I'm in the 2nd to last corral. And I'm fine with that. It's where I was for the Disneyland 1/2 and it's what I signed up for. Gives me a little bit of room to play with for character stops if I want to make any.

I have a costuming question and I figured I'd ask a bunch of Disney fans to see if they can shed some light. Long story short, I've found some tech shirt clothing that matches the colors of one of the costumes worn by a prominent Disney hero. However since said prominent Disney hero rarely appears in the parks and when he does, he is not wearing said costume, I'm questioning whether or not the roughly $50-60 that I'd have to spend on this costume would be worth it. So tell me Disney fans, based on the following description of my costume, would you recognize the character.

My character from a famous Disney movie wears a long sleeve black shirt with a sleeveless gray overshirt and a red cape. He also has long black pants, but I don't know that will matter in a night race. Thanks for helping me determine if I'm wearing a recognizable costume or simply shelling out money for running gear I don't need.

Corral C!!!! Up one from Disneyland and 15 minutes closer to my creme brulee and slow moving journey through time!! I am so excited, this is a great reward/help for the marathon training!!

My wager would be Prince Philip with the cape. If not, I'd say if it's something you want to do, the costume is as much about YOU having fun with the race as it is other people recognizing you.

I'd go with a prince as well, but no matter what I think it's about you enjoying the costume, not what others think. I spent $$ on a shirt I think is clever, but no one else will probably think its as funny as I do!

It is Prince Phillip. Maybe the cape is key since I don't want to carry around a sword and shield. ;)

I think my concern is that I won't have much fun with the costume if people don't recognize it. Otherwise, I just spent $60+ for tech clothing when I already have tech clothing.

And since I want to be as comfortable as possible, I want the costume to be runner friendly so I have to spend extra to get tech clothing in the right colors.

I would definitely say the cape is key. Without it, I would not recognize it as Prince Phillip. But I definitely recognized the character with your description. But then again, Sleeping Beauty is one of my favorite Disney films.

If you do decide to do Prince Phillip with a cape, be sure to practice before hand. Running in a cape (for any long distance) can prove to be challenging.

YAY!! Corral F!! As in here come the frea***g Storm Troopers!!!:cool1::rotfl2: Party in the back anyone!??!:cheer2:::yes:::bitelip:

I'm in corral F as well, but don't understand what you mean by Storm Troopers? I was in the last corral, at DL half too, and liked it because they had rows of porta-potties available. No waits!:cool1:

There were some jokes about storm troopers as sweepers earlier. It's good to have rows of portapotties available at the start IMHO. ;)

My last long run is this week-end! :cool1: I'm looking forward to taper madness. :rotfl:

I had asked why some runners seemed so concerned about what corral they were starting in. It was explained to me that the further up you start, the further ahead of the sweepers you are in case you fall off the minimum pace. I've never run a Disney race before and didn't know what a sweeper was, so I had this image of the storm troopers from Star Wars coming along and blasting the slow pokes into oblivion. The great people on this board, who have proven to have the best senses of humor, just took the idea and ran with it (no pun intended)!!:rotfl2: And I certainly don't see ANYTHING negative about numerous, hopefully clean, available portapotties!:rotfl:

Bad news...looks like I may be running this baby by myself, or at least the last 8 miles of it. Looks like the hubby's foot won't let him go more than about 5 miles before it just becomes too painful. The last thing I want is for this to become a miserable experience for us both:sad1:. So if anyone sees a patriotic princess running by herself around mile 5 at a snail's pace, say hi! I'll need the encouragement.:cheer2:

Ha,ha,ha,,,,ok, I get it. I was actually hoping to see Storm Troopers, that would have been neat. Don't worry, you won't be alone, there will be alot of us walking/running solo so we'll keep each other company!:flower3:

No offense my friend, but the LAST thing I want to see is street sweeping storm troopers!:scared1: Then I'll know my butt is dragging .

I was worried about my corral bc I had been I the last corral at Tink and spent a lot of time and energy bobbing and weaving through people. Also the character photo lines were very long. After showing up 2 hrs before the race (as instructed) and then having to wait another 30 min after the official start, I didn't want to have to do that again which was why I was concerned with my corral placement. Not necessarily for fear of sweeping.

Hope you're hubby's foot can heal. I ran the Tink by myself even though I was traveling with my niece. We started together but set our own pace. It was still so much fun even alone, and I bet you'll have a great time.

This will be my first Disney race and I was wondering if the miles are marked and easy to see.

Also, from those who have run in the past, about how many spots are there to stop and take pictures with characters?

I am so excited. Thanks for the info!

Marked well and easy to see. I ran it 2 years ago and don't remember about character pictures. It's pretty dark out there.

The mile markers are usually well lit and have a timer. Just remember that the time on the timer is from when the first racer started, not when you did. So you have to adjust your time accordingly if you are using them to gauge your pace.

Depends on timing in regards to photo ops. You can hit it so that the course seems empty as the characters need to take cheese, nut, or whatever breaks. They are usually relieved by a friend so there would be someone to have a photo with. More luck with characters in the parks, but also on Osceola Parkway.

I’m hoping that I don’t see the green army man at the top of the hill. Dude annoyed me. Also, whoever was frying steaks outside DAK two years ago… completely unnecessary to tempt hungry runners that way. LOL.

How bad is this hill I keep hearing about...? We haven't had many during our training runs and the Tink was pretty flat too so now I am starting to worry...

IIRC, it is short and steep, but not awful. I think the placement of it, near mile 8, is what’s difficult. You’re more than halfway done, but not quite close enough to be almost done.
